Karina | 95 comments I'm going to read Reckoning for Betrayals.

message 305: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ | 3901 comments I've already read Betrayals by Lili St. Crow so I'm going to go with book 4 of that series, Defiance (Strange Angels, #4) by Lili St. Crow .

message 306: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments I finished Stargazer today 10/27. Like the first one in the series, I liked it, didn't love it. But I'm interested enough to keep reading the series. I liked the added twists and turns of this one.

message 307: by Kim (new)

Kim | 295 comments I finished The Hand That First Held Mine today. I rated it 3 stars, but I would have given it 3.5 stars if I could.

message 308: by Karina (last edited Oct 29, 2011 02:42AM) (new)

Karina | 95 comments I finished Reckoning for Betrayals today. I gave it a 4 stars, but it was more like 3.5. It was an enjoyable read, but the end was a bit rubbish. I'm a little disappointed that the author choose to end the series this way, but oh well still a good book though.

message 309: by Joann (new)

Joann | 973 comments I finished The Help yesterday and thought it was a fabulous book - 5 stars.

message 310: by Vicky (last edited Oct 30, 2011 10:49PM) (new)

Vicky (librovert) I just finished The Help, I rated it 4* but I'd like to rate it 4.5*.

It was a fantastic book. I loved the characters and all the different relationships they have. I always have trouble with books that get a lot of hype, they never truly live up to my expectations. But The Help definitely delivered. :)

(As I write this, I'm considering switching up to 5* lol)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) Just finished reading Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton. ☆☆☆☆
Very amusing adventure story, I could not put it down. My husband called me to ask me something and I told him: "Can't talk now. They are attacking our ship." :D

I finished Austenland last night. It was a cute short read! If you are obsessed about Pride and Prejudice (you know who you are) you will like this book ;)

message 324: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments I finished Austenland today, just in time! It was ok, kind of cute. I enjoyed Jane very much, her inner struggle to come to terms with her Darcy obsession, LOL. 3* from me.

message 325: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments I finished Grave Peril for Storm Front yesterday - 27/12/11. It was a good book but there were parts in the book with the secondary characters where I felt as if I had missed an early book/novella.

message 335: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments I finished Beautiful Disaster today 1/10. I gave it 2 stars. This was a young dysfunctional couple that just made me sad and mad. Plus lots of typos- super annoying. And Abby took a shower every other page. Seriously, the author wrote about her getting in the shower constantly. And changing into her night shirt, all the time. But mostly the main character Travis was allowed to be ultra-violent to other students, all the time, with no adult intervention, no consequences, and treated women disgustingly(and was seen as studly for it). Aiming this book to the YA community is sad to me.

message 336: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments I finished Beautiful Disaster today - 12/01. What Fran said. 2 stars for me as well.

message 337: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments you know, i thought I read somewhere that the author of BD never said it was YA...that was just what happened...she actually wrote it for adults, or people in their early 20's

message 338: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Good to know she wasn't aiming at the YA demographic.

I was surprised at the 2-star ratings you guys gave to Beautiful Disaster. Based on its blurb, I was tempted to read it for this list, but I played it safe and chose a Kleypas book instead. Based on your comments, looks like I spared myself some disappointment.

message 341: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (last edited Jan 11, 2012 02:57PM) (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Finished Tempt Me at Twilight for Mine Till Midnight. A 5-star read for me, as once again, I enjoyed spending time hanging out with the eccentric, lovable Hathaways.

message 342: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Yz!

I was all prepared to love it like most everyone else did. But it just wasn't for me. Besides the annoying typos and repetitive dialogue, which I could overlook, I didn't like any of the characters. Especially Travis. He was so violent, obsessive, and awful to women. I just don't understand the attraction or romanticizing of a person like that. But that's just my opinion, maybe someone else can see it as just an entertaining story.

message 343: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments From the reviews, many of them seemed to love like it. Which is fine but they all see Travis as very romantic which I can't understand. *Shrugs* But I've heard glowing recs of that book from other people.

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) I finished Mine Till Midnight yesterday. 5-stars. I loved the Hathaways and can't wait to read the next one for Win's and Meripen's story. :)

Ok, so I have my first series for 'End-of-Series Countdown Challenge'. This I have to definitely read before doomsday. :D

Yvonne (selana) I just finished 'The Merchant of Venice' last night. I hadn't read it before and I kind of wish I had started somewhere else in my 'catch up with Shakespeare' challenge. Just 3 stars from me, I'll write a review and you can see my reasons there if you want to

I finished Mine Till Midnight by Lisa Kleypas. It was ok, I'll definately read the next one but I don't think Victorian Romances or Regency Romance(?) is my thing. It was still good, I just wouldn't consider it a favorite. 3 stars!

message 349: by Nicola (new)

Nicola | 649 comments Just finished The Cat's Table by Michael Ondaatje I gave it ***, but was a little disappointed in the story. I found that it had very little flow and the story was very disjointed.

message 350: by Sheila (last edited Jan 29, 2012 09:01PM) (new)

Sheila (schmoozy) | 83 comments I have also finished The Cat's Table by Michael Ondaatje . I gave it 4 ****. I thought it was wonderfully written and extremely descriptive. I enjoyed the short stories that comprised the novel. However, like Nicola, the short stories were very disjointed and that affected the overall flow of the book.
