Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 184 comments David, are you in Perth? We haven't had a drop here east of the hills and the sky has cleared completely...which is good because we're still harvesting.

message 102: by [deleted user] (new)

No Katie, I'm in the tropical wonderland of Cairns.

No wonder we didn't get any of it then! :D

I've been in Kalgoorlie for too long, hoping to get organised enough to leave next year. I was born in karri country down south, left there to go to UWA and got stuck in Perth for 20 years... hope I am not in Kalgoorlie that long!
Part of the problem is we (other half and me) don't know where to go. Have got two large dogs so some choices are limited.
Hoping Yahoo weather is right and that it rains tomorrow.
Will have to think about the six word descriptors!

message 105: by Rosanne (new)

Rosanne It became overcast in the afternoon, which meant we could venture outside for a dip in the pool - it was 39 degrees here at 11.00AM. We had like two drops of rain, and the sky cleared for the late afternoon, now there are clouds scudding across the fingernail moon.

Jeanette Hornby (goodreadscomuser_jeanettehornby) | 107 comments It's after 10pm. Still no rain here in the south west. Fingers crossed I'll have my garden watered by morning.

message 107: by Katie (new)

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 184 comments It can rain now. We've finished harvesting! :D

message 108: by Rosanne (new)

Rosanne Well done Katie.

It was on the news that WA has had its hottest year ever - we broke all records in 2011.

message 109: by Katie (new)

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 184 comments I didn't notice the heat, but yes it was a very mild winter, very few frosts and lots of lovely rain (but not too much where we are, fortunately).

message 110: by Jeanette (new)

Jeanette Hornby (goodreadscomuser_jeanettehornby) | 107 comments Warm, balmy night. Another storm perhaps?

Chantal (c_taiya) | 3 comments I was in Perth until last week! Now down south :)

message 113: by Jan (new)

Jan (auntyjan) Just got back from nine days in Tassie....absolutely amazing and a great place for Perthites to go to escape the heat of February...nine days was not long enough...four weeks would have been better.

Glad you had a lovely holiday Jan:)

Shona (shonahusk) If you live in Perth I’m going to be signing books (The Goblin King & Kiss of the Goblin Prince) with Michelle Diener (Keeper of the King's Secrets) at Temptation the Romance Bookstore in Subiaco on the 19 May 10:30-1.

Tony Slater (tonyjamesslater) | 46 comments Hi all! I'm going to stick to the idea of introducing myself in six words, since it will stop me doing my usual trick of typing and typing until the tips fall off my fingers. I have been told I talk too much, I think I write too much... I do everything too much. Except not doing stuff - I have a definite lack of not in my life. But anyway, as mentioned, I'll take the opportunity to tell you all about me in six words before somebody notices how much text there is in this little box and issues me with a fine or something.
Ready?
Here goes:
Crazy traveling Tony! Inept. Idiot. Abletorunmanywordstogethersothattheyappeartobeoneveryverylongwordwhichmeansnothingatall.

Do I win anything? :0)

message 119: by Deb (new)

Deb | 219 comments Hi,

Just had so much rain! Water running outside and inside the house. Had a couple of books on the outside table (which never gets wet) and they are soaked!

message 120: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79977 comments Mod
@ Tony...thanks!

@ Deb...oh no, that's awful...hope it eases up soon. Are your books rescue-able?

message 121: by Tony (new)

Tony Slater (tonyjamesslater) | 46 comments ARGH!!
Rain, eh? What's with all this rain? There's me thinking it's a state of permanent drought over here... for a few weeks I couldn't find a single dry day to put my washing out! At least the dams will be full (or full-er). So we can feel less guilty about an occasional nice long shower... :0)

message 122: by Jeanette (new)

Jeanette Hornby (goodreadscomuser_jeanettehornby) | 107 comments Lovely here in the south west. We had rain and thunder yesterday. The sun keeps making an appearance today but the grey clouds look ominous. Love to watch the rain through the window. I might even get some writing done.

message 123: by Deb (new)

Deb | 219 comments I'm still trying to get the dog's bedding dry. Still can't believe how much rain came down in such a short period of time.

message 124: by Deb (new)

Deb | 219 comments Anyone in Perth going to see Jodi Picoult on the 17th of July?

Deb | 219 comments Here are the details for Jodi Picoult

‘Jodi Picoult & daughter Samantha’

Tuesday 17 July 2012 @ 7.30pm
Prendiville Catholic College,
Performing Arts Centre

Jodi Picoult is the author of 18 bestselling and widely-acclaimed novels, the latest being Lone Wolf. Together with her daughter, Samantha van Leer, a high school student, Jodi has now written Between the Lines, a wonderfully imaginative, classic fairytale with a modern twist.

Having conceived the idea for Between the Lines, Samantha pitched it to her mum. They wrote every line together and will discuss this process as well as sharing insights into this exciting new book, perfectly suited to teens.

Dymocks Joondalup will be selling copies of Between the Lines on the night, so pick up your copy and have it signed after the event. Copies of Jodi’s other books will also be available for purchase and signing.

Cost: $6.00 – includes refreshments

Bookings essential: 9400 4751

message 127: by Colin (new)

Colin Taber Anyone going to Supanova this weekend?

I'll be at the Dymocks stand if you are. Come and say hi.

:-)

That is if I can face getting up early to the chilly mornings we're having at the moment!

Tony Slater (tonyjamesslater) | 46 comments Hey, I did a blog post about The Great Perth Storm!
(it was a bit tongue in cheek...)
It's here, if anyone's interested:

(I didn't make it a live link, coz i'm not sure if we're allowed to do that in here?)

message 131: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone
I was just wondering if anyone knew of a book club in Perth that was looking for members? I am keen to join one but dont really know where to look!! Thanks :)

message 132: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79977 comments Mod
A suggestion Christine if no-one has any bookclubs they know about....a lot of the libraries have them. Perhaps you could ask at your local one?

message 133: by Deb (new)

Deb | 219 comments Hi Christine

Check your local library. I go to an evening book club organised by the Joondalup libraries. We meet at the library once a month and it costs $6.00, which is for the book hire and a cup of coffee. We take turns bringing something to munch. It is brilliant and you are not spending a lot of money on books you may not want to keep.

message 134: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandafoxy) | 28 comments I'm loving this Aussie day long weekend. Even hubby has picked up a book. Great weather here in Perth!

message 135: by Deb (new)

Deb | 219 comments It has been rather great (weather wise) in Perth, especially if you compare it to other parts of Australia (with fires and floods).

message 136: by Deb (new)

Deb | 219 comments Anyone in WA going to the Perth Writer's Festival? There are some great sessions.

message 137: by Katie (new)

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 184 comments I'd love to go and do the session with Isobel Carmody, but I've already booked to do a UWA Extension course with John Harmon a couple of weeks before and I can't really afford both.

message 138: by Deb (new)

Deb | 219 comments There is only so much money to go around, isn't there.

message 139: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandafoxy) | 28 comments WOW....a year ago since someone posted for Perth? Is that typical, or what? I can't believe I'm sitting here watching 'Raiders of the lost ark'! At least I have a good book to fall back on. Loved the weather today and NOT looking forward to the hot, humid forecast for later in the week!!! Looks like the beach might be a go for tomorrow. :-)

message 140: by Deb (new)

Deb | 219 comments Hi Amanda

It is good having cooler weather. I think it will start climbing up to the mid 30s on Monday.

I'm going to the Perth Writer's Festival tomorrow. Also was fortunate to attend the studio recording of The First Tuesday Book Club last Friday afternoon. That was fun. Unfortunately, the session we saw won't be screened until Sept.

message 141: by Katie (new)

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 184 comments I was glad of the cool today. I had to take my son back to UWA with all his gear. I wouldn't have fancied having to carry all that lot to his room in the heat.

message 142: by Deb (new)

Deb | 219 comments Sad when the long weekend finishes. I always think I will have so much time to read. Doesn't always work out that way.

message 143: by Deb (new)

Deb | 219 comments Easter. How glorious. Time to do a little reading.

message 144: by Katie (new)

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 184 comments Sit out in the sun and enjoy it while it lasts! Happy Easter!

message 145: by Deb (new)

Deb | 219 comments I am madly trying to finish 'The Host' by S. Myers before going to see it at the cinema. Thought I would have so much time to read, as well as do a billion other things around the house. You get a few days off and think you can do everything that needs doing as well as relaxing.

The Host by Stephenie Meyer :)

message 147: by Jan (new)

Jan (auntyjan) Happy Mothers Day to all Mums in WA. I haven't dropped in here for a while but we have had some rain at last. And it's cooled down. Our summer really was too long and hot so I took a little break back in Feb...went to Japan and learnt to ski...which I enjoyed very much.
Recent movie viewing.....Oblivion.....the sci-fi with Tom Cruise.....I loved it and so did my husband.
Lunching at a restaurant in Freo today with kids and grand kids.
Both footy teams successful so everyone can celebrate. Once again Happy Mothers Day!

Brenda | 79977 comments Mod
Nice to hear from you Jan! But only Mums in WA?;) lol Hope you have a lovely day with the family, sounds like you had a wonderful time in February in Japan...don't be a stranger:)

message 149: by Deb (new)

Deb | 219 comments Thanks for the Mothers Day wishes Jan.

We just had morning tea here. Very pleasant, with lots of coffee and chat. Hopefully, I won't be cooking tonight.
