Alias Reader (aliasreader) | 29415 comments Thanks so much for doing all that work, Susan.

You sure had a terrific reading month. Congratulations !

Running the books sounds fascinating. I have to check that out further. Thank you !!

I just checked some of the GR reviews. I had a question. Some called this a novel, others said it was non fiction. Which is it ? Thanks!

Susan (aka Just My Op) (justmyop) | 234 comments It's nonfiction, a memoir. And I happen to be a sucker for interesting memoirs.

Marialyce I have the Pat Conroy book coming in for me at the library. I do so like his books.

Alias Reader (aliasreader) | 29415 comments Thanks, Susan. I'm definitely putting this one on my TBR list.

I love memoirs and biographies, too. I love non-fiction in general.

Susan (aka Just My Op) (justmyop) | 234 comments I just read some of the other reviews for Running the Books: The Adventures of an Accidental Prison Librarian, and there are very mixed reviews on it. Well, that just keeps things interesting - how boring if we all thought alike.

I haven't read all of his, but I've liked what I've read so far. If you appreciate his work, I think you will like this book for its insights into how he writes and how his life shaped his writing.

NancyInWI (nanckopf) | 56 comments I have not read "The Girl..." books and have no intentions of doing do. Subject matter doesn't interest me and often, I don't find the super popular books to be what I consider a good read.

Mr. Conroy loves words. He loves their flow, their tumble and play. And he isn't afraid to use them. I learned this when I first start reading his fiction with its exultant, flowery phrases, with its parallels to his own life. This nonfiction book tells me why he writes as he does. ..."

Loved what you wrote, above, about his writing.

I looked this one up at Amazon and can't wait to read it, despite the many, many books on my TBR list. I'm not especially a fan of non-fiction, but this looks to be very interesting.

Lynne in PA/Lineepinee (lineepineeaolcom) | 22 comments Susan, I just finished A Year of Pleasures last week and agree with you completely.

Oh good, I thought it was just me. Some of the people at my book club thought it was fantastic, when for me, it was just a pleasant read. I do have her The Day I Ate Whatever I Wanted: And Other Small Acts of Liberation on my bookshelf. I picked up a signed copy at the local library sale, but haven't managed to read it yet.

Jan and Alias, I hope I don't lead you astray with Running the Books, but I did very much enjoy it.

Nope. If a books subject interests me, I'll give it a shot. I am often in the minority on books that I think are great anyway. If a book is too popular I often hesitate as I usually am quite disappointed by bestsellers.

Jan | 19 comments Not to worry. I read a sample on Amazon and am looking forward to reading the whole thing. :-)

Susan (aka Just My Op) (justmyop) | 234 comments I love being able to sample books before buying them.

I agree and can usually tell within a chapter if the book will engage me. I use this site - Kindle for the Web (sorry if I am repeating this)

Wasn't The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo a book of the month on this board in the past? I am almost sure that it was discussed at length and had a thread of it's own. This was right about the time it was released, long before I decided to read it. I am almost positive it was this forum because I don't belong to that many.......

Alias Reader (aliasreader) | 29415 comments Yes, it was a group read here. But I didn't read it.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Here are mine:

The Power of Five: Raven's Gate - Anthony Horowitz
Skulduggery Pleasant: Dark Days - Derek Landy
Skulduggery Pleasant: Mortal Coil - Derek Landy

I loved all 4 of this month's catches.
