Gwennie (blessedwannab) It's all about context, IMO. It has to be with the right group of words. If Zsadist is 'impaling' Bella in fun rough sex, yum. If Black Jack Randall is impaling Jamie Fraser (Outlander reference) against his will... not so exciting. I mean, they are the same thing... just one is more graphic then the other.

Melissa (melissaveres) "Let me fill you."
- Reth, PARANORMALCY

Oh. My. Gravy.

Becca | 1608 comments hahaha! I'm going to have to steal that phrase, Melissa.

"Here I am. Here I am." ~ Terra, North of Beautiful

The very last line and it spoiled the whole book for me.

Melissa (melissaveres) Becca wrote: "hahaha! I'm going to have to steal that phrase, Melissa."

It's awful! I read it & my jaw literally dropped. Like.. WHAT? that line should never be used in any genre outside of erotica. Ever.

message 56: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments not the one you hated, the one you used. Lol, gravy, still has me giggling.

Rena, I kinda blocked that one from my mind. The rest of the book was too good to be ruined by one silly line.

I agree Becca. I didn't even notice that line from North of Beautiful!

Dawn Kurtagich (dawnkurtagich) Julie wrote: ""Who is John Galt?" in Atlas Shrugged. It was not too bad of a saying, but they said it way too much."

Really? I loved the Who is John Galt thing! :P

Oh, ha! I have a three year old; trying to clean up my language with food. It's actually a lot of fun :p

Amanda (peanutty222) | 529 comments That's funny ; ) I used to say "What the heck" or "What the hell", now I just say "What the..." Of course I heard my daughter the other day say "what the..." I thought to myself...good save!

Amanda (peanutty222) | 529 comments I have been re-reading the Fever series and although it's my favorite series, Every time Dani or Mac say's "fecking" I just want to scream "JUST SAY THE F*#&ING WORD!!!!"

message 62: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I have a friend who says fecking instead of the actual curse word. The first time he said it I raised my eyebrow. Although when my daughters around I find myself saying frack instead of f*ck, so I guess it's the same thing, lol.

message 63: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I say frack all the time because of Battlestar. Yes I am a nerd.

message 64: by Julie (new)

Julie S. Dawn, I did not like the "Who is John Galt?" thing for a very specific reason.

SPOILERS IF YOU HAVE NOT READ ATLAS SHRUGGED:
John Galt said the phrase himself, which came across as the author trying to witty or cutesy. Just annoying.

message 65: by Julie (new)

Julie S. I don't like how in the House of Night series, they say "bullpoopy" instead of using the real word. Annoying. Either say it or don't.

Most things said by certain main characters in that series annoys me. I just want to scream, "NO REAL TEENAGER TALKS LIKE THAT!!!!"

Wow. Yet another reason never to read that series!

message 70: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments speaking of the fever series - is Jan 18(for Shadowfever) a new pushed back date or was that the date they changed it to originally? And yes I know that was a confusing way to put it but if the dang publisher would have just left it alone with a release date in December we wouldn't be having this conversation!

message 71: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (peanutty222) | 529 comments The date was moved quite a while ago, I'm not sure the reasoning, but it was originally supposed to be reelased in late December and was moved to Jan 18th. And I read somewhere there will not be an early release. Bah. It's my #1 awaited book of the year.

message 72: by Emily (new)

Emily (toofondofbooks_) i don't remember the "my brother my son" quote at all, but i'm sure it's awful. is it even in like...i don't know...appropriate context? or is it just random? cause it just sounds like it.

message 73: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latashamd) Emily Christine wrote: "i don't remember the "my brother my son" quote at all, but i'm sure it's awful. is it even in like...i don't know...appropriate context? or is it just random? cause it just sounds like it."
Edward is talking to Jacob after the big fight at the end, and that's when he says it. Its incredibly stupid.

message 74: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) It was incredibly stupid, but it was also unbelievably awkward. Like, you read it and you're face screwed up in a 'huh?!' expression.

message 75: by Emily (new)

Emily (toofondofbooks_) i love how i read the book and i have no recollection. ahahah
but i guess i can sorta get why he said it, since Jacob imprinted on Renesmee and so it's like, one day they're gonna be together so he'll be like Edward's son...
which is...effed up, to say the least...
so the explanation makes it even more stupid.....haha!

message 76: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Emily Christine wrote: "i don't remember the "my brother my son" quote at all, but i'm sure it's awful. is it even in like...i don't know...appropriate context? or is it just random? cause it just sounds like it."

I can't believe you didn't notice that line! It stood out like a sore thumb.

message 77: by Emily (new)

Emily (toofondofbooks_) well, it's been a couple years since i read it. i read it in Dec. of 08 and i haven't re-read it or anything since.

message 78: by Katlyn (new)

Katlyn Quinn | 3 comments "...She is made of awesome sauce..." -Carrie Jones, 'Entice'

"Lets have some fun, this beat is sick. I wanna take a ride on your disco stick." - Lady Gaga, 'Love Game'

----these things make me wiggle in embarasment, as though it's my fault that I'm experiencing themr.

message 79: by Kurukka (new)

Kurukka Actually, the "my brother, my son" quote was before the big fight, when they thought they were all going to die (false suspens, of course), and Meyer said in an interview that it was Edward's way to say that he accepted and respected Jacob, finally. I guess she wanted to make a big melodramatic effect, teary eyed and all.

Katlyn : LMAO ! XD Gross.

message 80: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Well if that was her intention then it blew up in her face. (I had a feeling it was supposed to be that, though.) I think most people agree that it was the worst line in the whole series.

message 81: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (peanutty222) | 529 comments Wendy wrote: "Well if that was her intention then it blew up in her face. (I had a feeling it was supposed to be that, though.) I think most people agree that it was the worst line in the whole series."

I think I hated the following quote more:
"And so the lion fell in love with the lamb..." he murmured.
I looked away, hiding my eyes as I thrilled to the word.
What a stupid lamb," I sighed.
What a sick, masochistic lion."
The Son quote is right up there with it though. I loved Twilight, but sometimes the sap was waaaayyyy too high.

message 82: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Haha, that's funny because that Lion/Lamb line was super Cheesy but I think when I read it I actually chuckled.

IMO, her writing overall was cheesy. She's definitely no Melina Marchetta.

message 83: by Katlyn (new)

Katlyn Quinn | 3 comments Amanda, one of the worst moments of my life was watching them say that in my head. Again, I wiggle in embarrasment.

...like watching little fuzzy animals die on the wildlife channel...

message 84: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (peanutty222) | 529 comments yeah, it was definately worst to watch it on the movie versus reading it. I cringed, mostly because I knew the part was coming but still, it irked me.

message 85: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) It was definitely worse watching it.

message 86: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Jaimie Stephanie Meyers needs to take some writing tips from JR Ward about how to write cheesy lines and pull it off. I love when she says things like "he was all about playing nurseypoo". You really can't make that stuff up it is so bad (good).

message 87: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) hahahaha! It's so true.

The only JR Ward phrase that makes me cringe is when she uses the word 'lollipop' as an action word in sexual context... it literally makes my mouth curl up and think 'GROSS'.

Ha! Lollipop!

message 89: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (peanutty222) | 529 comments J R Ward always uses the word 'slick' in conjunction with the female anatomy and for some odd reason it always makes me cringe.

message 90: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Jan 03, 2011 02:11PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) The biggest thing about BDB that bothers me is the constant music/pop culture references. I like my books to feel current and if I pick it up 10 years from now I don't want to be reminded of a song that was barely a hit 5 years before I read it. It's like she's trying too hard to be "youthful."

message 91: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Amanda wrote: "J R Ward always uses the word 'slick' in conjunction with the female anatomy and for some odd reason it always makes me cringe."

I am always amazed at the amount of ways she can write a sex scene and make it sound different, so I cut her some slack sometimes. I always like when she says stuff like, "the place where she wanted him to be". It cracks me up that she doesn't use any names for their body parts:)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I'm cool with some of the terminology in various books, but when I see words like nub, sheath, and folds it makes me cringe.

message 93: by Heidi (new)

Hahaha! They are pretty bad aren't they?

message 94: by Amanda (last edited Jan 03, 2011 04:30PM) (new)

Amanda (peanutty222) | 529 comments She uses the word 'sex' instead of vagina or penis when refering to reproductive parts. His 'sex' or her 'sex'......IT'S A PENIS!!!!!!
I do love J. R. Ward though. I could never think up the stuff she does. I must have a pretty bland imagination.

I know! I was thinking of that too Amanda - she always uses that word!

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 602 comments How about those twin weights! LoL

"Her hand found his male flesh and then dipped down underneath it to the twin weights below."

message 97: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Hahaha!

message 98: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) HAHAHA! That is some brilliant writing! I always think of the principle in 10 Things I Hate About You. "What's another word for engorged?"

message 99: by Heidi (new)

Heidi We could start a thread just with our favorite BDB quotes! Good stuff ladies. Good stuff. I hope we have not discouraged anyone from reading the series, because it sounds really bad from our quotes!

message 100: by Kourtni (new)

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 602 comments Oh no! These books are great. I love those quotes because they make me laugh.
