Oh, that's the final book of Wheel of Time, right? Mizan once publish the first book, but seems like they will not continue the series :(

Finish reading
The Locket by Stacey Jay which is full of teenage drama and angst (make me so wary to start Graceling) and Silent Warrior (Dragon Kings, #0.5) by Lindsey Piper which had insta-thing (lust, love, mate, etc). Just rant in my review how I dislike those books!

Next into Strange Fates by Marlene Perez , which one reviewer call it "Percy Jackson for adult". Hope it not sucks.

Right! Too bad if Mizan doesn't continue the series. I think WoT (and other similar epic fantasy series) will hardly have many fans due to their "heavy" story, lots of characters to be remembered, and other traits that just doesn't suit many Indonesian reader. Unless maybe they are made into a TV series or film like Game of Throne :)

But let's hope for the best for WoT in Indonesia :)

What other traits? Is it for adult readers and that's why Mizan not continue publish it?

Dini wrote: "Percy Jackson for adults sounds interesting."

Yep. But I always get YA vibe despite Strange Fates by Marlene Perez is for adult reader. Maybe because the author once was YA author.

Christine wrote: "I'm reading Etiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger. On chapter 6 now. So far interesting."

Have you read her Parasol Protectorate series?

Now reading Perfection (A Neighbor from Hell, #2) by R.L. Mathewson , not too funny like it predecessor, Playing For Keeps

Nope I hvn't. It's my first Gail Carriger's book.

message 914: by Angela Noviana (new)

Angela Noviana | 8 comments I've just finished Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1) by Cassandra Clare
Though the rating very high and some people says it's really good, for me, it's flat. Hmmm...

Now, I'm in dilemma either reading Time of Death (In Death, #24.5, #27.5 & #29.5) by J.D. Robb or Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1) by Larissa Ione . Seems like I'll go with J.D. Robb for book format =)

Still reading The Wanderer (Thunder Point, #1) by Robyn Carr for ebook. It's a heartwarming story =)

I suggest you to try read the Parasol Protectorate series too. Since the world is the same. Ettiquete and Espionage is set 20 years before Parasol Protectorate

Lynossa wrote: "These days I avoid YA books written by female writer. They tend to be having mary-sue and gary-sue characters. I have The Passage and look forward to read it!"

Do you mean gary-stu? Nah, I prefer YA without any teenage drama, angst or love triangle. But seems... never find it :)

Just finish reading Perfection (A Neighbor from Hell, #2) by R.L. Mathewson . The hero is kinda jerk and sexist, but he redeem himself in my eyes when he bought e-reader for the heroine's gift. Now, that's a man who exactly know what a bookworm want.

Now into The Asylum Interviews Bronx (The Asylum Tales, #0.5) by Jocelynn Drake The Asylum Interviews Trixie (The Asylum Tales, #0.6) by Jocelynn Drake and Angel's Ink (The Asylum's Tales, #1) by Jocelynn Drake

Adult readers meaning that it has erotica in it? No, the other traits I mean is that the plot is very complex. Based on my observations, the majority of Indonesian readers prefer simpler plot. But I could still be wrong :)

Just finished A Memory of Light two days in a row and feeling really satisfied with it! Finally I know the conclusion of the Wheel of Time series! Woohoo! XD

@Ren, yes gary-stu, I'm always confused about that one. Anyway, has anyone read A Discovery of Witches? I have the book in my bookshelf but haven't decided whether I should read it before or after the passage.

message 928: by Ren Puspita (new)

Ren Puspita (renpuspita) | 244 comments @Dewi : I will not said erotica (but I guess we have a different term about erotica, anyway :) ). I mean, if there's sex scenes or violence like Game of Thrones

@Christine : Yes. Both are set in the same world. Ettiquete and Espionage is Parasol Protectorate series spin off

@Lynossa : I have A Discovery of Witches. But DNF'd it. Boring, the letter is so small, book is so thick. But maybe will continue it next time (if there's next time)

Try Gena Showalter, Kresley Cole, Jeaniene Frost, Nancy Gideon, Thea Harrison. Well there's many actually :P. Right now I'm more into urban fantasy.

Finish Angel's Ink (The Asylum's Tales, #1) by Jocelynn Drake , love the hero who is tattoo artist

Sex scenes yes, but not as explisit as GoT. Violence of course. Does that mean Mizan won't continue the series because of that?

I agree. I love historical romance, too. And the sex scenes of terjemahan version is quite vulgar or even embarassing to read. Not that the translator weren't good. I think there're many english phrase couldn't translated precisely in bahasa.

message 941: by Femmy (new)

Femmy | 301 comments I don't really read romance and I've never read translated romance, but I've come across a sex scene or two in my reading. I agree that sometimes scenes in English don't come across as vulgar as the Indonesian version, but I wonder if this is because English is a foreign language to us and so we don't feel its vulgarity as much.

And then, there's the problem of our inferiority complex, where foreign words are considered as more polite or dignified. For example, the words "kutang", "beha", and "bra" refer to the same thing, but the more foreign the word is, the more polite it feels.

BTW, there are many Indonesian phrases that wouldn't translate precisely into English as well. Different cultures means different languages, so inequivalence is unavoidable. And I do wish we use the word "Indonesian" or "the Indonesian language" or "bahasa Indonesia" to refer to our language, not just "bahasa", as this is incorrect.

My thought exactly! :D

I admit, I don't feel the translated version from any romance novels that had been published here are considered vulgar. If I can said, the translator do their best to "taming" the sex scene, so it become more polite. I do praise the translator who doesn't shy away from using "vulgar" words like (sorry) *adik kecil*. Make me laughing so hard, lol!

I think it just a preference of us to choose reading the original languange or Indonesian version. I'm once became freelance translator, and I agree that translate sex scenes can be soooo.. embarassing. But like I said before, I will always praise them who translate sex scene. It is not an easy job :)

@Namida : I believe you can find His Majesty's Dragon at Kinokuniya. Or if you prefer the Indonesian version, Elex already published it.

I think Indonesian as a language lacks nuances when it comes to sexual situations, and we're left with either clinical or crude terms. Neither is comfortable to be used in literature. English have evolved richer vocabulary for this, and it's easier to pick and choose the best language to use. Afterall, you can also choose to be vulgar in English.

Love to see more Indonesian reads and especially foreign language book,
I am reading Walden at the moment, it is a classic book, you can find it on project guttenberg website, beside that i also on my 10% progress of Up and Out of Poverty by Phillip kottler.
I always a big fan of good novel, but now i am learning to enjoy light non-fictions.
One of remarkable novel like lately is Family Matters by Rohinton Mistry, highly recommended!

Budi | 1 comments I am currently reading Bossypants' Tina Fey. It almost get finished at least 3 more days to reach the ending also the acknowledgements. The interesting part from reading the first page of introduction is the bizarre motivation-fueled beginning of her intention to write her own fascinating stories in every single experience happened.

I always watch 30Rock on cable but I never know she has burrowed to the depth of famousness from scratches. It's been awhile not reading a biography or autobiography with funny stuffs exaggerate the whole story and entertain me with a lot lols..;)
