Where do you buy your books? Which stores? New or second hand? Online, library or even lent from a friend.
Discuss (and recommend) here!

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments I'm a Barnes and Noble gal, myself. Altough I have cheated on my beloved B&N on occasion with Borders. (I'm sorry!!!) :)

I don't usually check books out from the library. Sometimes I order them on Amazon. Sometimes people who don't want their books give them to me. And my friends and I exchange books. However, I have had the nickname of "mobile library" for a while, especially since I let people borrow my books a lot.

Public and School librarys are my bffs.

message 4: by Pandy (new)

Pandy | 185 comments I get a lot of books from libraries too. When I do buy books it's almost always from Amazon.

Me too, especially with the fact that I own a B&N nook. I used to always get my books from the library, but since I have fines, I haven't been in a while.

I'd love to find a local, independent bookstore. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to, although a friend of my mom's mentioned that she knew a few.

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments We used to have a secondhand bookstore in my city... It closed. Now the closest thing we have is the "Entertainment" section at Wal-Mart. Which, I'll have you know, practically vomits Twilight. *vomits on Twilight*

Anywho... I was at the school library today, and every time I picked up a "Penguin Classics" book, the book smell was overpowering. It was wonderful. Other than the people at my table making fun of me for smelling books.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

lol, i know of several secondhand places in my city, their really cool to go too, and it doesnt hurt that theyre cheap too ;)

message 8: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments It most certainly does not.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

There are no Barnes and Noble's in Australia.
Well, not that i know of.

When even I am in town I go to Borders and Dymock's.
However, there is an Angus and Robinson just around teh corner form where I live, so I go there a lot too.

And there are plenty of 2nd hand bookshops all over the place. When I say all over, I mean practically EVERYWHERE!

message 11: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments Ah, cheap books... ;)

message 12: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I go to Borders or have my dad order them off of amazon. generally they're new, but if the amazon used books say they're in good condition and if they're cheaper (which they generally are) then ill get a used copy.
The library is my best friend. :)

I usually go to Borders. It isn't as close as A&R, but usually A&R doesn't have what I want. They don't have as many books.

message 14: by Regan (new)

Regan | 3 comments I use Half Price Books, there's a great one in Concord, CA. It's cheep, and even though the books might be a little beat up, totally readable.

Borders and Barnes and Nobel are both to expensive for me.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

i use half-price books too :)

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

:( there is only one major bookstore and its Barnes and Noble so i go there (the borders branch closed) and a Half Price books

message 17: by Daniel (new)

Daniel I get books from barns and noble, half price books, and sometimes from amazon.

message 18: by Lee (new)

Lee (limes03) I tend to buy books from WHSmith (or if online Amazon/Tesco), although very rarely since I don't have much space to store stuff away. Otherwise its just taking them out from several libraries.

message 19: by Chloe (new)

Chloe R.B. | 2288 comments I very rarely buy books, but when I do, I buy them at good old Barnes & Noble.

message 20: by Kendall Anne (last edited Nov 22, 2010 07:50PM) (new)

Kendall Anne (dance4life) | 785 comments I either go the the library, go the Barnes&Noble, or awesome library book sales, or order books from http://www.betterworldbooks.com/, and Amazon.

message 21: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I usually go to the library, and then of course there are the library sales once a year, where you can get a used book for about 50 cents.

We used to have an independent bookstore in our town, but it closed last year. However, there's still one in the next town over, and a Borders in the town on the other side. So, I'm not exactly starved for bookstores.

message 22: by Morgan (new)

Morgan | 1 comments I mainly get mine from amazon.com! But I do go to the libary or borow books from my friends too!

message 23: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) Much as I love Amazon (somehow, they always get preorders to me on the day of release, if not before!) I kind of love THE BOOK DEPOSITORY. Free shipping! That includes international :D

message 24: by Kendra (new)

Kendra (proudxnerd9966) | 132 comments I check out books from the public library but mainly buy by books from either Borders or Barnes & Noble. Some people like Books-A-Million, but I don't.

The Book Depository :)
When my $30 Angus and Robinson gift voucher runs out, thats how I will buy most books. Plus, they're pretty cheap.

♫♫☺Allie☺♫♫ (alliwicious) | 1115 comments I get my books from the library or Barnes and Noble.

message 27: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments What's the Book Depository?

message 28: by ★ Jess (new)

http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/

A website for buying books. The ones releases are not cheap, but everything else is :) Have a look around.

and it's FREE shipping! Not even Amazon does that (well, sometimes they do - but not all the time!)

message 30: by Mandie (new)

Mandie | 355 comments That book depository site is so cheap compared to everything else. Even compared to QBD which is cheaper than the recommended price and way cheaper than borders.

message 31: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Sounds cool. (Amelia, Amazon usually has free shipping when it comes to books.)

I feel very out-of-the-loop, but what's QBD?

message 32: by Mandie (new)

Mandie | 355 comments No one else has probably heard of it either. It's an Australian book shop and isn't really that popular and there aren't as many shops as there are of things like borders. Jessica probably hasn't even heard of it because I don't think there are any stores in South Australia.

message 33: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Got it.

Amazon usually only does free shipping on orders of $25 or more. Which, really, is a lure to spend more than $25 (in my opinion).

Kate | 8205 comments Maybe it's the difference of whether or not you're a member?

message 36: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments That could be it.

message 37: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Oh, wow. I just realized that that's the whole point my mom is a member. I guess that answers that question then.

message 38: by Kendra (new)

Kendra (proudxnerd9966) | 132 comments I looked around on The Book Depository and I have to agree it's pretty cheap especially with free shipping. I don't get to go to Borders or Barnes & Noble very often so I would like to start ordering books online. But only if my parents will let me which I doubt they will :(

message 39: by Ishita (new)

Ishita (ishifishysquishy) i order them online thank you gift cards! ( and dad :D)
and i go to borders because its cheaper than Barns and Noble which most ppl dont realize but mostly Sams Club...cause they get all my books and i get them at least 8 dollars cheaper!

message 40: by Frank (new)

Frank Barnes and Noble and Borders. I have memberships with both book stores.

message 41: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Just checked out the Book Depository, those are great prices! And they have pretty much everything. :)
Never been to Sam's Club for books, but I've heard that they are a lot cheaper there.

message 42: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I've heard everything is...

message 43: by Awo (new)

Awo (awosbooks) | 9 comments Chapters Indigo, being canadian and all, although it is quite expensive.

message 44: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (meowchelle7) | 150 comments The majority of the time, I go to Borders. That's because they give out 40% coupons almost every week. But I have a 50% coupon for B&N's right now, so I'm going to head over there tomorrow. :0
If there's a book deal on Amazon (like, buy 4 paperbacks for 50% discount on all of them) or something, I definitely buy on Amazon.
Or I borrow it from my *rich* friend. :/
Sometimes when I don't have money I go there after school and read for an hour there in the built in coffee shop inside. That sounds sooo cheap lol. But I also like the quietness of the bookstore, it's very relaxing to read in there.

message 45: by Whitney :) (new)

Whitney :) (wvn1998) | 1808 comments USUALLY I BUT THEM FROM BARNES AND NOBLE OR

I THINK THATS WHAT ITS CALLED?????

Alyssa (shyluck13) Ayana Barrons wrote: "Chapters Indigo, being canadian and all, although it is quite expensive."

I know - the prices are ridiculous. I'm Canadian, too, (obviously!) and am seriously wishing some other book chain opened up...one that won't break my wallet. I just bought a book for $30 yesterday - I'm hoping it was worth it.
And they rarely dole out the coupons. Sucks.

If t..."

Yeah, the Borders coupons are nice. But they're my mom's so I rarely see them. (of course I can't complain, because often they go towards presents for me)

message 48: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (meowchelle7) | 150 comments You can actually get your own Borders card and use 2 of the same coupon. They let you :o

message 49: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I can, but since I only go to Borders with my mom, it makes no sense to have my own. I just steal hers when necessary. (but it's fair because she steals my gift cards too)

message 50: by Kadie D♥ (new)

Kadie D♥ | 11 comments I mostly borrow books from the library.
I just buy (or reserve) my books in the bookshop.
No internet shopping for me, since the books didn't came last time I don't use it anymore.
