Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Aww, that sucks.

message 52: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I was afraid that the Borders in the town next to mine might go out of business...but it's not going to so I'm very happy!

message 53: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Ours isn't either. I think most of them are near a Barnes and Noble....

message 54: by Frank (new)

Frank The Borders (along with 16 in my area) are closing. It's kind of sad. Barnes & Noble is closer anyways, and if I get a Kindle soon then I can shop online.

message 55: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Yeah, I don't know of another big chain bookstore nearby until you hit NYC. I'd guess there's at least one in White Plains, the smaller city that's a little closer, but even that's not too close. They don't have to worry about competing if there's no one to compete with.

Sadly the independent bookstore in my town closed last year, although the one in the town on the other side of ours is still open. (yay!)

message 56: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments That's good!

message 57: by Jess (new)

Jess Dirt Cheap Books is good, although they only get random books in. Last time I went I found one copy of Rise of a Hero, the only book I was missing in a trilogy. Nice coincidence, seeing as that was the only one they did have. For most books though, I go to bookstores like Dymocks or Collins

message 58: by [deleted user] (new)

I tend to buy my books at Barnes and Nobles or at grocery stores. Otherwise I just get them from the library if I can't find any money. ;)

message 59: by Emma (new)

Emma | 17 comments i just got a $25 dollar gift card to Borders!!! i cannot check books out of my school library because i have to pay a fine!! lol :)

message 60: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Well then I'd pay that fine. :)

message 61: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments We don't have fines at the school libraries. We just can't take books out if we have any overdue, and I don't think we can take out more than two at a time. But then there's the town library. We get fines there, but you can still take stuff out until you have a 25 dollar fine, which if it's for one book, is 250 days.

message 62: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments wow. and i doubt that one book generally gets that high.

message 63: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments No, it's more of an issue for if you lose a book, or have a bunch overdue, or if it's a movie. Those are 2 dollars a day, so it goes by a lot faster, and if you have multiple movies over due.....you get the point.

message 64: by Emma (new)

Emma | 17 comments i go to my town library....which is worse than the school library :(

i LOVE warrior series. i read all of them! does she have a goodreads account?

Kate | 8205 comments Emma wrote: "i go to my town library....which is worse than the school library :("

Worse than the school library? Really? My school library this year is bad enough, but the middle school one was AWFUL. Our town library is really good, and it's part of a county system, so even if our library doesn't have it, I can put almost anything on hold and get it, although sometimes it takes a while.

message 67: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments My school libraries have never been great, though I didn't start using my public library until 6th/7th grade.

our library is coverd with Harry Potter books....they have 5 of each. But they dont have the 4th series of Warriors! its awful...my school has it but i have to pay a fine because i didnt return my book "flipped" oh well...

message 69: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments If we haven't returned the book to the school by the next time we get a report card, then we don't ge the report card, but that's basically it. I had forgotten about that part. Plus, I can take out a book for longer from the town library than the school library so I don't have to worry about it being overdue as much.

We've got our fair share of popular books, but there's usually at least one copy of the others too.

message 70: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Oh no! I'm so sorry for your loss.

message 71: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments I kid you not, when I read your post, Kate, I went, "Wait, who died?" :P

Well, I mean, it is like a death. The death of the book-reading world. A lot of the small bookstores are gone, and now one of the big chains is having problems? This, my friends, is a serious issue.

message 73: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments Oh, I totally know what you mean. I agree that there is a problem here.

message 74: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Too bad the rest of the world doesn't agree.

message 75: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid NcNally Robinson.
I doubt you've heard of them, since I live in Canada.
Oh, and Amazon.

message 76: by [deleted user] (new)

I've never heard of borders. :( Is it only in certain places?

message 77: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments It's a fairly widespread international chain. Where do you live?

message 78: by [deleted user] (new)

north carolina

message 79: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments There should be a couple near you. Maybe a Barnes and Noble?

message 80: by [deleted user] (new)

We do have a Barnes and Noble. What's the difference between it and Borders?

message 81: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Different companies. You probably don't have a Borders because of your B&N. Borders closed a lot of its stores- most of which were in the same places as B&N had stores.

message 82: by [deleted user] (new)

Ah ok that makes sense. But I do love B&N....that's where most of my Christmas and Birthday money goes. lol :D

message 83: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Borders did close a lot of stores, but only recently. If that was the issue, Borders would have been there until this year. Probably, they didn't think the area had a chance of supporting more than the one big store.

message 84: by Sage (new)

Sage Nunez There's a second hand bookstore downtown I like going to. The lady has a thick accent and the place is brightly lit. She let's you read there as well, which is awesome. (Not to mention wicked sales! :D) I've ordered from Amazon a few times and been pleased with the results. I don't like Barnes and Noble, however, because I feel so uncomfortable in their stores, like I'm intruding on something sacred... The library is off limits because I have some late fees I have to pay off, but it's a great place to find great reads nevertheless.

Librarians are scary though, so be careful! D:

message 85: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Librarians are not scary! (Ok, maybe some of them are)

My mom and I just bought about 500 dollars worth of books for twenty five dollars at my library's used book sale. It's very exciting. Except that I'm not supposed to read them until the summer. Not that I'd have the chance anyway. I hate finals studying.

message 86: by Frank (new)

Frank Hey, Kate, at least you won't run out of reading material over the summer. :D

message 87: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Good luck, Kate. I know how those can be. (SO glad I'm done with them until next year!)

message 88: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments You would think that would be true, Frank. I personally probably bought 15 or so books. Last summer I finished 17 in the first three weeks, over 50 all together. I read fast and often. But still, I've got a good head start.

Thanks Rae.

message 89: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments You're welcome.

message 90: by [deleted user] (last edited Jun 16, 2011 01:29PM) (new)

I found out that the little town that my grandparents live in has a second hand book store. I think I'm gonna go check it out.

message 91: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Those are normally cool places

message 92: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I love secondhand bookstores. You never know what you'll find.

message 93: by Colby (new)

Colby (colbz) Lately I'm falling in love with Books A Million. They have cheapy tables, and you can get great books in perfect condition for less than five bucks. This week I got
Deadline by Chris Crutcher Wake (Dream Catcher, #1) by Lisa McMann Return to Groosham Grange The Unholy Grail by Anthony Horowitz for a total of only $11. Two of those were hardcover!

Also, I buy lots of books off Amazon, although I hate the $4 S&H. Living in a town without a big bookstore, though, I sometimes have to deal with it.

Then there's a secondhand bookstore downtown that I like to check into now and then, but it doesn't have a large YA/Teen section. It does have the cheapest Stephen King Books in town, though! I picked up Cujo hardcover for $3 in great condition.

message 94: by Katie (new)

Katie Ames | 2 comments Im not a huge reader but I got one book from b&n and one from a book store near by but I just ordered a kindle so my books are now coming from Amazon

POW

message 97: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Thanks for understanding.

message 98: by Shanrox (new)

Shanrox | 3 comments woww. i guess i came in late because i didn't get to read POW's comment. Oh well, i never really knew what a spam was anyway... ok,so i ususally get my books from barnes and noble, but there's also a book store in maplewood, a bit of a distance from where i live, called Words Bookstore, and i also get my books from there. woww. this comment is unnecessarily long, so i don't really mind if people stop reading at like, the 3rd line. ok so... i guess i'm done here. ~Peace <3

message 99: by Meri Kate (new)

Meri Kate (booksandsunshine) Barnes and Noble is my favorite place. Sometimes I cheat and go to Borders or Books-a-Million though...

message 100: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Well, unfortunately, I don't think you're going to be cheating with Borders for much longer.
