Catherine (cattymccat) | 95 comments Actually, yes. lol

All the books from the used book store totaled $22.00

Books bought at Walmart was under $25.00.

And my books I ordered/preordered came to $37.95. So I spent $84.95 total... Which I shouldn't have spent, lol. But whats done is done. That's 17 books though! So I think I got a really good deal. Especially since 5 of them were hardbacks. I know I won't do it again next month though! lol

Lyle Kimo Valdez (eskablong) | 40 comments lol. sign me up! haha. I can't help but buy a book if I see it and like it.

message 156: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I buy so many that I'll never catch up and read them all.

message 157: by Lyle Kimo (new)

Lyle Kimo Valdez (eskablong) | 40 comments Me too. It's like for every 5 books I buy I get to read 1, maybe 2. Then I buy some more.

message 158: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I counted, I've got about 30 books on my shelf that I bought to read. Still, every week I buy two more!

We have alot of books in common, lol.

message 159: by Lyle Kimo (new)

Lyle Kimo Valdez (eskablong) | 40 comments Haha! I haven't got that many. lol. maybe about 10-15 unread books. :D

We do have a lot of books in common, dont we? :p I'm gonna see what I wanna read off your list. ^_^

message 160: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I already looked at yours, haha.

message 161: by Lyle Kimo (new)

Lyle Kimo Valdez (eskablong) | 40 comments Lol. We have a lot of J.D. Robb in common. haha! And Catherine Coulter, I have a book here with that author, but it's about an FBI agent looking for a serial killer. So maybe they're not the same? ^_^

message 162: by Gwennie (last edited Nov 07, 2010 01:21PM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Catherine Coulter does modern crime mysteries (like Tail Spin (FBI Thrillers, #12) by Catherine Coulter ). But she also does Regency Romance's like the ones on my list.

Yes there are so many popular series and novels that my library doesn't have, I'm constantly having to order them in lol

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments For those of you asking about Will Grayson, Will Grayson, I absolutely loved it. The different writing styles make it so you can quite easily differentiate between the two Will Graysons. I never felt lost. Also I've heard the audio does a good job with it too if you're worried about confusing the two.

It is the first and only John Green book I've read, but I am looking forward to reading more from him. I would definitely recommend it.

Shadow's Edge looks good. Have you read the first book in that series? If so, is it really good? ( I would assume so if you bought the second one... :) )

message 169: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (cattymccat) | 95 comments The audios for Graceling & The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy & Goth Girl are both amazing. The narrators of both are great, especially Graceling.

Graceling (The Seven Kingdoms, #1) by Kristin Cashore The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl by Barry Lyga

message 170: by Lyle Kimo (new)

Lyle Kimo Valdez (eskablong) | 40 comments okay thanks. I'm gonna add Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green to the books I'm gonna buy next week, after my order of Finnikin arrives. :D

I'm also gonna buy Behemoth and the 3 Parasol Protectorate books, a lot of my friends tell me it's good. And I've started to like steampunk books. :D

Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger Changeless (The Parasol Protectorate, #2) by Gail Carriger Blameless (The Parasol Protectorate, #3) by Gail Carriger Behemoth (Leviathan, #2) by Scott Westerfeld

J.C. | 30 comments Finally one of the two books I recently ordered has arrived. Will be snuggling up with Hush Hush tonight!

message 175: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (peanutty222) | 529 comments I just loaned The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff and Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler today from the library. I still have Lover Avenged (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #7) by J.R. Ward , Lover Mine (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #8) by J.R. Ward , I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak and Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson out on loan. I haven't had much time to read this past week, I am hopeing to get to something soon.

message 176: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Oh good books Amanda - I have Lover Avenged at home as well and loved I am the Messenger.

message 177: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments So, I just gave in to Amazon and ordered:
Terrier (Beka Cooper, #1) by Tamora Pierce Crown Duel (Crown Duel / Court Duel) by Sherwood Smith Raven by Allison van Diepen and the very last copy of Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta !! Feeling extremely guilty now, but can't wait! These are all ones I can't seem to get hold of in any library, and have been agonizing over for ages...hope they'll be worth it (though needless to say, I'm feeling pretty confident about Finnikin at least!) :D
If anyone's read any of the others though, let me know! I don't really know much about them in comparison..

Rach (pagesofpiper) (piperbunny) Today I checked out:

The Boy in the Dress by David Walliams and Raven's Gate (The Gatekeepers, #1) by Anthony Horowitz

both recommended to me.

I've not read any of them Arphaxad, but the first one must be good as it's the cover of the group :)

message 179: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) That's what I was going to say too. I haven't read the first one but it's the group picture.

I have read Finnikin of the Rock. It was awesome!

message 180: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Wendy, glad you loved it. Have you harped about it over in the Finnikin thread? Have you read Jellicoe?

Today I got from the library,

Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1) by Orson Scott Card Little Brother by Cory Doctorow Project 17 by Laurie Faria Stolarz

message 181: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments Haha, good point about the group cover guys..hopefully it was chosen for a reason! Plus that one's by Tamora Pierce, so I've got fairly high hopes for it :)

Aah, can't wait to be in on the Finnikin discussion! 'Twill be worth the wait, I'm sure.

(And YAY for Ender, Peep! Hope you enjoy it. I'm reading Ender's Shadow (Shadow Series, #1) by Orson Scott Card right now and can't decide which one is more awesome)

message 182: by Gwennie (last edited Nov 09, 2010 01:25PM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I haven't been over to the Finnikin thread in a while, but yes, I do believe I went over and raved about how I loved it.

I bought Jellicoe and Graceling last week. I haven't started reading them yet though. I'm trying to decide what my book purchase should be this week, lol.

message 183: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments Piper, let me know if Raven's Gate is any good! I'm quite the Horowitz fan when it comes to Alex Rider, but haven't read his other stuff yet..

message 184: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Arphaxad wrote: "...(And YAY for Ender, Peep! Hope you enjoy it. I'm reading Ender's Shadow (Shadow Series, #1) right now and can't decide which one is more awesome) "

Well that's good news, I didn't know if the rest of the books were any good. I used the wrong copy though. Mine has large margins. This is the one I have
Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1) by Orson Scott Card He looks so cute on the cover.

I haven't been over in a while too! But you must start on Jellicoe. Graceling was OK for me. I loved it when I first read it, but the more I thought about it, the more I didn't like it.

message 186: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I wish that's what my Enders Game looks like. Mine looks like this, Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1) by Orson Scott Card .

That means that I'll have to force myself to overlook the science-y cover to start the book, which I'll admit is giong to be hard since I have so many others I want to read, like...

Jellicoe! I want to read this pretty bad. I'm in the middle of the Mortal Instrument series right now, just starting City of Ashes. But I'll read it soon, then I'm sure I'll love that one too.

message 187: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Peep give me an update on Ender's Game when you read it. I haven't got to it yet.

message 188: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments Cute cover indeed Peep, I've not seen that one before! Mine's all space-y too Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1) by Orson Scott Card

As for the rest of the books, they do differ from each other a lot and tend to divide the audience! I'd say Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow are the must-reads; everyone seems to agree on those two, and they're amazing.

The other books in the Ender saga are philosophically/psychologically much heavier, I'm still deciding whether to read them! The rest of the Shadow saga ones are politically heavier, but still pretty action-y and I enjoyed them, though they don't match the first two.
Maybe just check the reviews and take it on a book-by-book basis :)

message 189: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (last edited Nov 09, 2010 02:11PM) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Thanks for the info Arphaxad! I'll see how I'm feeling after I'm done with this one!

Wendy and Heidi I, I am only a few pages in but it does start out interesting. Keep in mind that I have no idea what this book is about going into it. It starts off like you suspect a YA book would, not a sci-fi book. I hope that makes sense.

And I think that has to be a record for the number of covers for one book!

ETA: It's good so far, not at all what I thought!

Rach (pagesofpiper) (piperbunny) Arphaxad wrote: "Piper, let me know if Raven's Gate is any good! I'm quite the Horowitz fan when it comes to Alex Rider, but haven't read his other stuff yet.."

Will do, I've only read Stormbreaker, liked it but prefer Robert Muchamore. I've heard the Power of Five series is quite different :)

message 191: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments I really liked the Ender series. Speaker for the Dead was actually one of my favorites of the series. I haven't read the entire Shadow series yet though, so I've got room to change my mind.

message 192: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I am still reading it but I like it so far. I'll give a better update when I get more chapters read. It's different from what I thought it would be.

message 193: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (peanutty222) | 529 comments I loaned Bruiser by Neal Shusterman from the library and just finished it. If you are a fan of Neal Schusterman's books, I highly recommend reading it. Just don't don't read the book synopsis, it doesn't do the book justice.

message 194: by Lyle Kimo (new)

Lyle Kimo Valdez (eskablong) | 40 comments any of you guys read Hunger and Rage by Jackie Morse Kessler? I saw it in the bookstore and liked the cover, got intrigued with the premise. And Crusade by Nancy Holder.

I loved Ender's Saga. Speaker of the dead was great, my fave too. I first thought the series was going to be boring but I read on and loved it. Havent read any of the shadow series though.

Envy those with Finnikin copies. >.<

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I've read Hunger.

Does death show up in book 2? I really liked him.

Is it good? I havent bought it yet, but if its good I'll buy both. :D

message 197: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Nov 09, 2010 11:22PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oh, sorry it's late. I thought you said that you had read it.

I liked the book, but didn't love it. The book dealt more with the main character's anorexia than the fact that she was chosen to be a horseman (woman) of the apocolypse. I wanted more of her actually being famine. Even though it wasn't one of my recent favorites, it was good enough for me to want to check out the next book.

However, I was immediately taken with the rider Death and hope to see more of him in future books.

message 198: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments @Becca/Lyle: yeah, I thought Speaker for the Dead was really good as well, though very different from Ender's Game. Xenocide and Children of the Mind are the ones I can't decide about..but I suspect I'll succumb to temptation and read them anyway :D

I really need to add some Neil Shusterman to the TBR. Especially Unwind!

message 199: by Lyle Kimo (new)

Lyle Kimo Valdez (eskablong) | 40 comments Xenocide was still good. Children of the mind was when it got complicated for me. lol. May have to re-read that. I've got unwind in my tbr list too, what other Shusterman books are good?

Bought a hardbound copy of Graceling at a used-books shop. P125 ($2.50) only. ^_^

message 200: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (peanutty222) | 529 comments Unwind is on my top ten list of favorite books, as is Bruiser now. They are both a little dark, but Neal Shusterman seems to like to write darker fiction. Also try Everlost. Enjoy!
