message 601: by Traci (new)

Traci I went to borders this afternoon and got 4 books as well :) I feel bad because it's a really sad situation, but any sale on books will get me excited! :p

I came out with The Mediator Volume 1 (Shadowland & Ninth Key) by Meg Cabot True Grit by Charles Portis Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins and Ship Breaker (Ship Breaker, #1) by Paolo Bacigalupi

I had a couple more in my hands, but I decided to regulate myself. I'll have to go back in a week or so and see if they drop the prices any lower..

Jen (jennifer_ashmy) | 242 comments I went to my borders yesterday and today and it was sad for me too because it's my favorite store. I can't believe its closing down :( I'm not a fan of Barnes & Noble but oh well, I guess I will have to get used to it >.<

I came out with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1) by J.K. Rowling . I have the paperback copy but its so old and battered and I've been wanting to reread this series since forever and I'm happy I finally could complete my collection of hardcover editions of the HP books.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments I have to go look and see if my Borders has a sale going on. I have some I want to get so I will have to make a list and go look!

message 604: by Cortney (new)

Cortney | 21 comments just won The Oracle of Stamboul & I'm really excited to start it!
Just ordered A Light in the Attic. I used to have this book as a child and LOVED it but it got ruined when I moved to MO. SOO excited to own it again and read it to my son.

message 605: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I went to our Borders today. The sales aren't really great right now, most of the fictional books I wanted were only 20% off. But! I did get the rest of the Vampire Academy books that I needed.

Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, #5) by Richelle Mead Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy, #6) by Richelle Mead

I also bought this for my friend, just because I think she should read it, haha.

Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost

message 608: by Nikki (aka Quinn) (new)

Nikki (aka Quinn) | 69 comments I'm excited!!! I heard a lot of good reviews but the cover looked so kidish for Ender's Game...

message 609: by Arphaxad (last edited Feb 23, 2011 04:06PM) (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments Well, let me assure you, it's awesome in the extreme and definitely deserves all the insane Amazon reviews etc. It's pretty much my favourite book ever, in fact! And Ender's Shadow is close behind (though I'd recommend reading EG first). Really hope you enjoy your new stash Nikki!

message 610: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments (And yeah, it is a shame about the covers! Haha)

message 611: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Awe, Ender's Game, seriously one of the best sci-fi/end of the world books EVER written. Card just knows how to tell a good story. Ender's Shadow ranks up there too. Bean is by far one of my favorite characters ever written.

message 612: by Amanda (new)

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments I just signed up for a library card yesterday. I get to use the digital catalog right away so I checked out:
The Lying Game (The Lying Game, #1) by Sara Shepard for my Sony Pocket.
and
Once Dead, Twice Shy (Madison Avery, #1) by Kim Harrison The Host (The Host, #1) by Stephenie Meyer on audio for my computer. :) I think me and my library are in the beginning of a beautiful relationship! YAY! (I hope The Lying Game is not connected to PLL)

I also got approved for a bunch of NetGalleys. Some of the most recent are:
Plan B (Surviving Southside) by Charnan Simon The Lipstick Laws by Amy Holder Populazzi by Elise Allen

If anyone is curious of the other ones I have got let me know. :)

message 616: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok, apparently you people have way cooler libraries than I do. Lol.
I like to blame the lameness of our library for my obsessive book buying, but really, it's just because I can't help myself. Some of my latest purchases are:
Cloaked by Alex Flinn Across the Universe (Across the Universe, #1) by Beth Revis The Red Queen's Daughter by Jacqueline Kolosov

I really need to stop, though, as I have about 40 books sitting on my shelf waiting to be read. I'm getting ready for the summer when I do pretty much nothing at work except read. Ha. =)

message 617: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) haha, we all sound the same. I think I'm up to 55 books, between my Kindle and my shelf, that I need to read. And I just can't stop myself from getting more. It's an illness!

Don't feel bad. I have a Kindle, a Sony Reader and a load of paper books to read. I even have a challenge with 30 books to read this year that I can't change. I have barely touched the list! I am very bad. Now with a library card I am worse. My library is part of a network of libraries called C/W Mars. It serves Central and Western MA. I have many books that I will have to wait on but I don't want to request them all at once and have them all become available at the same time. Most have 1 or 2 copies. (which I think are shared through all of the C/W Mars libraries or at least all the Western MA ones) Some are only audio, some only ebook. I haven't checked the paper books yet!

I see you have Cloaked. I have been wanting to read Beastly. Have to add it to the list to read soonish. When does the movie come out?

message 619: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, man. I forgot to count ebooks. That pumps the number up quite a bit. I feel like an addict. Ha. Hey, at least my addiction isn't something dangerous to my health!! =)

I think Beastly comes out March 4th? I really wanted to read the book before I saw the movie, so I guess I should get on that... There's another book to add to my shelf! Ha!

message 621: by Stormi (StormReads) (last edited Feb 24, 2011 10:04AM) (new)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) It is really sad that this is happening to The Border stores, but it all ready happened to are Barnes and Noble store, now the only book store with in a 30 mile radius is Books-a-million and they are okay, but I just get things online mostly.

Just bought Secrets and Shadows (13 to Life, #2) by Shannon Delany

message 622: by Jen (last edited Feb 24, 2011 02:03PM) (new)

Jen (jennifer_ashmy) | 242 comments I'm reading Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, #5) by Richelle Mead

It's comforting to see I'm not the only one with a huge pile of books waiting for her. I think it's an addiction and it doesn't help that I have such a huge tbr list and want to keep buying books, lol.

@awesomevegan & Ashley: Beastly is a really great read. It's one of my favorite books of last year. The movie comes out March 4th.

message 623: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments Just got back from the library with: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter, #2) by J.K. Rowling Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Harry Potter, #3) by J.K. Rowling Fragile Eternity (Wicked Lovely, #3) by Melissa Marr Wake (Dream Catcher, #1) by Lisa McMann

Excited, though I have frustratingly little time to read right now!

message 624: by [deleted user] (new)

I picked Beastly up on my way home last night. =) Excited to start it!

@Arphaxad YAY Harry Potter!!! One of my favorite books series of all time!

message 625: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments Haha! One of everyone's favourites, it seems. Really enjoying it so far :D

message 626: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (shyluck13) | 124 comments I really didn't like Beastly but I hope you do! I can't wait to see the movie!

message 627: by [deleted user] (new)

Alyssa wrote: "I really didn't like Beastly but I hope you do! I can't wait to see the movie!"

I hope I do, too! Lol. And I know, I'm excited for the movie. =) Already have a group of friends with plans to go opening night... It MIGHT have something to do with our love of Alex Pettyfer more than the story, though...

message 628: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (shyluck13) | 124 comments Ha - he is exactly why I want to see it! And I want to see how Vanessa Hudgens acts outside of High School Musical.

message 629: by Laraine (last edited Feb 26, 2011 07:43AM) (new)

Laraine (lala26) | 121 comments Just bought Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta , Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly , and If I Stay (If I Stay, #1) by Gayle Forman . I also got Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins in hardcover even though I already have the UK paperback version. I just couldn't resist! lol!

message 630: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Finnikin and If I Stay are both great reads.

message 631: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I just grabbed it for my Kindle. My finger just couldn't resist hitting that '1-Click' button.

message 632: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Wendy!

message 633: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I know! I know!! I need therapy!

I swear it was calling me like a beautiful Angel, "Weeeeendy, click me!"

Heidi Wendy F wrote: "I know! I know!! I need therapy!

Hahaha!

message 635: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Hahaha, "beautiful Angel". Amazon sure went big!

message 636: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) No Joke. they are serious manipulaters-I mean, outcome engineers. They just set it all up so that it was so easy to go broke.

message 637: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Justification is one of the steps in addiction Wendy! It is always easy to blame others.

message 638: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I should sue! If the chick could sue McDonalds for the hot coffee, I may win a case against Amazon for making it too easy to buy books! ;)

message 639: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Wow. You are deep in your addiction Wendy. Perhaps we need an intervention.

message 640: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Intervention?!?! I'm there!

.... it's just that we care so much about you Wendy....
....That's not the Wendy that I know....
.....I kicked my 1-click buying habit and so can you... (really)

message 641: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Haha. I think it'll be the first time a book buying intervention was held.

message 642: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I feel the love and support, man, I really do.

message 643: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Peep no matter what Wendy says just keep her on target. She will try to manipulate you, but don't let her. Just keep telling her that you are there for her and want her to get help.

message 644: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) No, I'm cured. Really. It worked, i feel like a new woman. I'm really not flipping through Amazon right now.

message 645: by Heidi (new)

Heidi You sure sounds guilty to me Wendy.

message 646: by Laraine (new)

Laraine (lala26) | 121 comments Then when Wendy reads Hex Hall and loves it she'll buy a hardcover too! Yay! haha... kidding :) So happy you guys like my new books!

message 647: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Hahaha, it's not out of the realm of possibilities. I just might.

message 648: by [deleted user] (new)

Pretty sure I'm going to have a mental breakdown by the end of March because I made a pledge with my kids that I teach in kids church to give up the one thing we spend the most money on each month and give that money to our missions program for the month of March. And for me, that is books...
WHAT AM I GOING TO DO????????????????

message 649: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Ashley I am not sure where you live, can you use the library?

message 650: by [deleted user] (new)

Well we do have a library, although not a great one... I do have some books I haven't read yet that should hold me over, but I buy books constantly... I can't help myself ha. I love them!!!
