Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments The Yuengling beers get pretty good distribution here, but they tend to be pretty pricey. The porter is nice in cold weather.

The porter is the best of them in my opinion. Also, for some reason I switched your comment and Janine's. I was baffled at how Ohio could just be getting Yeungling when the Netherlands had it already.

message 254: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments The Netherlands is pretty much in the thick of things, generally speaking, but their getting Yuengling distribution before Ohio would be a little surprising.

I discovered two bottles of beer in my fridge. A nice surprise.

How do you keep that glass from tipping over when you open/close the refrigerator door?

I wondered the same thing Phil. Now I am going to lie down because I must be ill if I'm thinking like Phil :-)

Sarah | 13814 comments We have a fabulous new hard cider on tap. I'm not a hard cider fan (bad experience my last week of college) but this is delicious. Plus, it has another awesome tap handle:

Jim | 6484 comments Great tap handle Sarah.

I had a very tasty Pumpkin Ale last Friday night. No picture to post.

message 263: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Was that your first Pumpkin Ale? Glad you liked it, if I'm remembering that right.

message 264: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Yup, I am no longer a pumpkin ale virgin.

message 267: by ~Geektastic~ (new)

~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments I like Woodchuck. It's the Budweiser of hard ciders, I know, but I still like it. Conveniently, my favorite variety is the "amber" brew.

I've never had hard cider either. I'm kind of afraid of it.

message 269: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments What's to be afraid of?

message 270: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Good question. The only thing to be afraid of is getting wicked sick if you drink it in large quantities -- which also happens if you drink large quantities of non-hard cider, or eat too many apples.

message 271: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Precisely Sarah, precisely.

message 272: by ~Geektastic~ (new)

~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments Some hard ciders taste so much like regular cider that it's really easy to drink too much and then have the alcohol catch up and kick your ass.

I think I'm afraid of not liking it, and my not liking of it spreading contagiously to real apple cider, which I like a lot.

What does it taste like?

The good ones taste like regular apple cider, only mildly carbonated and slightly less sweet (at least the ones I've had).

How about a Philphylactic?

message 280: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Here is the Grand Cru I had with lunch. They will not sell it by the growler, or I would be taking some home with me.

Félix (habitseven) I am leaning toward a decision to get beer drunk this weekend.

Make sure you post!

I usually only get "beer" drunk. I just call it drunk. I don't drink hard liquor much.

message 283: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) It's either beer or wine pour moi. I will definitely post. It promises to be legendary. Well, maybe not.

message 284: by ~Geektastic~ (new)

~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments Never been "beer" drunk. Been liquor drunk, and hard cider drunk. Is there a difference? I know that pink lemonade drunk was the worst ever and I'll never do it again.

Jim | 6484 comments Félix wrote: "I am leaning toward a decision to get beer drunk this weekend."

I'll get beer drunk with you only separate, but I can't tonight as I'm going to the UW hockey game. Tomorrow would work out pretty well. I am picking up a growler of Pumpkin Ale on my way home tonight that I could drink tomorrow night.

Beer drunk is generally kinder, in my opinion. Wine drunk can be fun but leads to headaches. We're playing at a place that serves Vititus (http://www.food.com/recipe/lithuanian...)
tonight, but I shall have to refrain. That stuff is dangerous, and if I drink anything other than whiskey tonight I will have the flu tomorrow.

message 287: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24778 comments Mod
Beer drunk is the least bad. I've never had a hangover from beer. Sweet alcohol drinks (appletinis etc.) are the worst. They go down so easy, and the hangover feels like death. I don't do wine anymore, or liquor really. Only moderate amounts of beer.

message 288: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments I've always avoided the sweet drinks, alcohol shouldn't be sweet.

message 289: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I really want to drink some beer with everyone participating in this thread.
