Welcome Diane from another Diane!

OMG, there are so many other great Amish authors other than Beverly Lewis. If you are looking for some series books, I would recommend:

Any series by Wanda E. Brunstetter but especially:

1. The Storekeeper's Daughter
2. The Quilter's Daughter
3. The Bishop's Daughter

Then check out Amy Clipston, Vannetta Chapman, Beth Wiseman, Suzanne Woods Fisher, Shelley Shepard Gray, Barbara Cameron and Kelly Long to name a few.

Feel free to check out our monthly group reads for other ideas as well!

Timothy | 6 comments Hello!

Sorry I have not been online much here. I wish for you to know, I do enjoy the writings of Brunstetter and Lewis. I and my small family appear similar to Old Order Amish or Old Order River Brethren. I attend a rather plain Mennonite Meetinghouse. I know quite a number of families that have come from the Amish.

I have had contact with Amish, Brethren, Hutterites, Mennonites, and Quakers. I know a lot about the origins of all of them.

Some, within other more orthodox groups, would forbid the purchasing of any of these books. Interestingly, the Meetinghouse we attend, the members vary...some have never read the books and others have.

I have not been able, recently, to do much reading at all. (We are tending to my wife's widowed and frail sister.) It is confined to the Holy Bible and such. When the time allows, I hope to return to reading more of the Amish novels I have missed!

I am glad to be a member of this group. Pray, pardon my negligence in remarking sooner. An awful lot has been going on since I joined this group. Most of the newer releases of books from various authors, I have not even had an opportunity to read the details of.

I hope to be here a bit more, when time suffers. Yes, I have many of Brunstetter and Lewis's writings, and other authors as well. Hopefully things will improve so I can read more soon.

Gut lesen an euch alle! ~ Good reading to you all!
Timothy

Carolyn E | 239 comments Timothy, it's good to hear from you. Welcome to our group. The problem here, of course, is trying to keep up with all of the wonderful Amish and Christian books that are coming on the market all the time. There was a time when Wanda Brunstetter and Beverly Lewis were just about the only authors writing in the Amish genre; now there are many, such as the ones Diane U. mentioned. Enjoy!

message 455: by Linda (new)

Linda Hi Diane,
Any Amish books that I have read have been awesome. My new favorite is The Outcast by Jolina Petersheim, She is also a member of this book club!

message 456: by Linda (new)

Linda Hello Timothy,
It is nice to meet you and have you as a part of this group.

message 457: by Carolyn E (new)

Carolyn E | 239 comments The Outcast: A Modern Retelling of The Scarlet Letter by Jolina Petersheim is also my latest favorite. I highly recommend it.

message 458: by Timothy (new)

Timothy | 6 comments Dankeschön! Sie sind freundlich! ~ Thank you! You are kind! It is equally nice to meet you as well, Linda, as well as others here.

I have not read the latest from Cindy Woodsmall nor the new releases from Clipston, Reid, and others as yet.

I shall be happy to look into Jolina Petersheim. (I had some Petersheim acquaintances in MO a few years ago.)

Gut lesen an euch alle! ~ Good reading to you all!

Regards,
Timothy

Jolina Petersheim (jolina_joy) | 38 comments Thank you so much for sharing about The Outcast, Diane and Carolyn E, and it's a pleasure to meet you, Timothy. My husband is a Mennonite/Amish background Petersheim; I was a Lancaster County Mennonite background Miller before we married. :)

Natalie,
I have not written a book (thought about it though) but I think waiting for the title until you have written at least some of the book as you might get a great title from the story. Don't know how authors decide on their titles.

message 467: by Alina (new)

Alina I read a lot of Christian Fiction, including Amish fiction so I thought I'd join this group as well. Lancaster, PA is one of my favorite places to visit. I was there last week for a huge craft show and will be going again this week to Sight & Sound theater to see "Noah".

message 468: by Tina (new)

Tina Welcome new members, this is a great site.

Alina, you will love Noah..I was in Lancaster the first weekend of this month and we saw Noah, it is fantastic.
Blessings, Tina

Welcome Alina. I love Lancaster too -- we used to live 7 miles from the Lancaster county line, in Honey Brook (setting of a Beverly Lewis series). When Noah first opened my in-laws gave us tickets as a Christmas gift. The tickets were for the earliest we could get 6 seats together -- the following October! It was awesome -- enjoy.

We've seen all the other shows there and loved them. Somehow, we missed seeing Noah when it was there years ago so real glad it has returned.

message 472: by Tina (new)

Tina Alina,
I saw Noah years ago when it was there too...this one is just as good...
Moses is coming in March and I want to see that too.

message 476: by Alina (new)

Alina We didn't get to see Noah as my husband couldn't join us. Had a lovely 4-day weekend in Lancaster with my 3 daughters. Husband joined us on Sunday to go to Hershey Park (our fav park!). We will go see Noah in the Fall before it leaves.

Ruth (oofie) | 5 comments Hey Ladies.......I'm new here & want to thanks for allowing me to join. I've only been interested in Amish life & reading about it in the last 5-7 years; but I find it educational, inspirational & very believable. My favorite authoress in this genre is Beverly Lewis. Can you all recommend whom you think is best?

Welcome Ruth! So glad for you to join us :) My favorites are Cindy Woodsmall and Kelly Long, but there are many good authors out there...Shelley Shepard Gray, Tricia Goyer, etc.

I can't really vouch for my own work (let another man praise thee and not thine own lips) but my books Amish by Accident and An Unforgivable Secret both have an average 4.5 Stars on Amazon. So it seems that people who love Amish fiction enjoy them. The eBooks are only $2.99.

I'd be honored if you wanted to check them out!

Thanks!

Welcome Ruth!!I think I started reading Amish fiction back in 2005 and haven't looked back. When I ventured out from Beverly Lewis' books I read Wanda Brunstetter and then added Beth Wiseman, Shelley Shepard Gray, and Barbara Cameron. If you're looking for quick, sweet reads, try Emma Miller's Hannah's Daughters,/i>.

Great to have you here. :) Personally, it seems like I can't get enough Amish books to read. I love them - so much so, that I began writing my own! I don't know if you've read any of them before, but I would be honored if you wanted to check them out. But PLEASE don't feel pressured.

Right now, Amish by Accident is just $0.99 in eBook format on Kindle.

If you do check them out, I hope you absolutely LOVE them :)

Cynthia (cyn121) Hi Everyone, i'm a newbie here and have been a fan of Amish fiction since the owner of a Christian book store introduced men to Beverly Lewis, more years ago than I care to admit. My Kindle library is about 2/3 Amish books, the other 3rd are recipe books. Anyway, I live in the Catskill Mountains of NY with my 2 cats. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and reading new books.

Hi Susan, I have the boxed set of her "Abram's Daughters" books that I got a great deal on. Sadly, the colors up where I live weren't very nice this year. We've had a really warm fall with no real frost and the trees are pretty drab. :(

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 1132 comments @Kathleen: Hello. The first two Heritage of Lancaster County books by Beverly Lewis, the Shunning and The Confession, have been made into Hallmark Channel movies. It appears as if the third book, The Reckoning, will be made into a movie sometime next year. It also appears as though Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio by Serena B Miller, which is about English main characters but takes place in an Amish community, will be a T.V. movie on the Uplifting Christian Television channel sometime next January. Hope this helps.

There is also 'Harvest of Fire'. I believe it is a Hallmark movie.
There are a couple of good (factual) documentaries on YouTube, produced by the BBC. They are 'Amish - A Secret Life' and 'Trouble in Amish Paradise'.

Hope this helps :)

Debbie Maynes van brunt | 18 comments Hi! I am Debbie and I am an Amish fiction junkie! I become "hooked" about 10 years ago, when I was out in Lancaster County, PA and the local quilt shops started carrying Beverly Lewis' books. I can't get enough. Good and not so good.
I can't believe how this genre of books has grown in the number of authors that have cropped up.
I hear the clip clop of horses towing buggies every time I read one!
