Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments If you liked the Hunger Games, I would say try The Maze Runner. It isn't the same, but it is dystopian with kids fighting for their lives using some fighting skill but mostly survive by being clever and figuring out the maze. I loved this book and can't wait for the next!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments So happy that Scorch Trials is out soon!

The only thing I didn't like about MR was the slang, but I give it a pass since the book is interesting.

Lani (crahfty) I was pleasantly surprised by The Maze Runner. I picked it up on a whim and found it to be quite the page turner. I can't wait to see what happens in the series.

Jen I really liked MR. I agree w/the Hunger Games similarity. If you liked one, you like the other. I liked HG more, but MR was still a great read. Can't wait for Scorch Trials!

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I actually liked it better than the Hunger Games (I'm sure I'm in the minority though). I didn't have any expectations when I read it, and I liked the weirdness and having to theorize everything out. I don't always like all the questions answered at the end of a book, and this one left my mind reeling.

Stacia, have you read Unwind (Unwind, #1) by Neal Shusterman ? it's a stand alone, and really great read.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments I haven't, but it's on my TBR list and I plan on getting to it after I can knock a few more challenge reads out of the way.

The Line (Line #1) by Teri Hall I had high hopes for this one, but it dragged on too much before the story got going. Not sure if I'll read book 2 in the series. Then again, I read it right after reading Hourglass Door and I LOVED that book, so that might have thrown me off.

Carrie, it looks like they're going to make more Unwinds. It's listed as #1.

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Huh, weird. I was a stand alone before, but I did think there could be a good series from it.

I actually read MR before Hunger Games and thought they were pretty equal. I loved the mystery behind MR and I, too, like figuring everything out along with the characters. I found the pacing really worked for me too.

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I haven't even started! Every night I set time away to read and something comes up. Last night my gf called and I was on the phone forever explaining/helping her with computer related problems. And I am going away tomorrow until monday so I have to pack for the kids, which is basically my whole house, lol. So I doubt I will get much reading in until next week. :(

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I frakking loved The Scorch Trials! These books are like a big mind frak. They really mess with your head, but I love it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments It was a good book. The next one in the series is going to be amazing, I can feel it.

In one of my other groups, someone wrote that they couldn't stand MR because the writing was elementary. I wondered if she had read the same book that the rest of us did.

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Really??????????? I think Dashner is an amazing writer. He is high up on my list of favourites.

Did you feel this book was a bit bloodier than the first? I gave my nephew the first one, and I was thinking this one might be a bit too much. I guess I will wait until he gets to the first, as he won't be reading it for a few months anyway.

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Really? Huh. I guess for some reason the cranks creeped me out.

***SPOILERS***

and the crazy lightening and burnt up kids was gross. Not to mention when they were going to the scorch and that metal stuff was getting their heads, yuck. For some reason it seemed to jump out at me more. Maybe because I was reading it thinking about my nephew reading it.

Carri (carrifedor) | 145 comments Finally read The Maze Runner this year. Loved it, but the ending was kinda strange to me. Someone told me that the series kinda turns into a zombie series and they were turned off by it. Any truth to that? Should I continue with the series?

Darcy, do you think I'll like this series? I'm iffy on dystopian.

message 18: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I'm not sure Heather. It was dnf for me, but that is in the minority. I would say that if you give it a try, get it from the library, that way all you are out is time.
