well i know that Luke and Simon don't say that but luke said in City of Bones (PG 127) "I never felt any way about her particularly," Pangborn said "You do know that we'd trade her, Jocelyn , for the Cup?" Luke said " I know I'm not interested," and like so Jocelyn doesn't feel that way about Luke and now he's mad at her and doesn't care. And I'm asking if it's like that with Clary and Simon. Because let's say Clary is Jocelyn and Simon is Luke and they are in the same situation in CoFA ????

you know in the city of glass that lady magnus bane was talking to at the end? does that have any relevance to, lets say, a certain shape changer in a another book u have written? another thing, u cannot drop a bomb like, there is a new villian which u would never have suspected and not expect me to freak out and reread the books looking for the evil guy! a little hint would be greatly appreciated and it would help me get through the next months waiting for your new books without trying to harrass you every two seconds :D

No. They are not religious books. While they are books that engage with aspects of religion (many religions, not just one) they are not making a religious argument: i.e. presenting any particular religion as correct. They are completely relativistic where it comes to religion ("ALL stories are true) and since "God" and "angels" and even "Satan" are concepts that traverse a number of religions, they can't be said to be putting any particular one first.
And how many books are going to be in the Fallen Angels? I know that you have two up all ready, but do you plan on three? I'm really glad that you decided to write about him.

Probably not.

They're not really "The Fallen Angels" books, they're just more books of the Mortal Instruments. They do begin during the school year, Simon is at school without Clary, he does miss her, but pretty soon everything is going to be so shaken up by events that school is going to be the last thing on anyone's mind.
In the Fallen Angels books, will we see Luke and Jaclyn as well? Do they plan on getting married? Could they have kids? Or did Clary and her mom move to the Insistue?"
We see Luke and Jocelyn. They are engaged. They could have kids - if they wanted them which has yet to be determined. Jocelyn wouldn't move into the Institute in a million years.

Why is Will afraid to think of a world where Jem would not be dying? In page 272 he thinks, "But then there were other times, like this, when he looked at Jem and saw no mark of illness on him, and wondered what it would be like in a world where Jem was not dying. And that did not bear thinking about either. It was a terrible black place in himself that the fear came from..." I may be reading too much into that, it may or may not have something to do with Will's secret, but I was just curious. And another question, where does CP start? Does it pick up right after the end of CA or have a few days/weeks passed since then?
CP picks up about a week after the end of CA. As for your questions about Will, they are good ones, which I can't answer. All part of the contradiction that is Will.

Urgh, turning into Thomas, seems disrespectful. There's a reason the Dark Sisters separated Tessa from all her belongings: she HAS nothing of her mother's or father's and can't turn into them. Th Clockwork Angel has been worn by Tessa for years and long ago became "hers" — it can no longer be used to turn into the person it used to belong to. The magic rests on an arcane idea of "belonging" — otherwise when holding Jessamine's ring Tessa would turn into Jessamine's grandmother, who it once belonged to, instead of Jessie.
Can you give us any hints when we'll learn what other talents or powers Tessa has? Clockwork Prince? Clockwork Princess? "

I have no idea. It actually came out in Europe before it came out here, at least in Germany and places with other large English-language bookstores. But there's no release "date". It came out in the UK a month ago. I'd suggest just ordering it off bookdepository.com.

The magic comes naturally but they still need training. If they are raised by their demon parent the demon parent can seek training for them. Otherwise they have to find it themselves, usually.

No. Luke is massively lying in this scene about how he feels about Jocelyn because it would be catastrophically stupid to admit his feelings for her to Valentine's minions. Of course he'd trade her for the Cup if he could but HE DOESN'T KNOW WHERE IT IS. Also, he knows that they'd never follow through on the deal even if he did. You can't use a flat-out lie a character tells as an example of their actual feelings.
And I'm asking if it's like that with Clary and Simon.
Is the situation with Clary and Simon like a complete and total lie Luke makes up on the spot to get himself out of a tight situation? No.
Because let's say Clary is Jocelyn and Simon is Luke and they are in the same situation in CoFA ????"
I think you have to keep in mind that characters lie. Even narrators lie, but all characters in books lie — you cannot take everything they say at face value.
None of this, I suppose, is to say that Simon could not be the one tempted by darkness. But the Luke example is not a good one.

Well I know that Luke is lying and now that you have explained it to me it's made a lot more sense. thank you so much I'm going to re-read the books for the 8th time so that I can REALLY understand the story and I have another question. So Will and Tessa like each other i got that. and i also got that Jem likes Tessa but Tessa likes him as a friend correct? anyway so will Jem and Will eventually get in a fight over her or something? because I've read the MI books 7 times and I just read CA and I've kind-of determined the way that you write.(don't get me wrong, I love your books.) but you like bring things around with twists and love and hate and sometimes betrayal and I've been thinking about this for a while and I was wondering will something mess up the friendship between Jem and Will? Something like their love for Tessa? and will Tessa eventually find love with someone who she can be with forever? or like will something happen to the person she loves, (i.e. Will), that will make them able to be together? Sorry I'm like asking you to lay out the book for me. you don't have to answer I;m just really hoping that you will.

I think the thought is from page 447

That along with the thought on page 431 where he thinks, "The first time he'd ever felt this sensation, he'd been twelve years old, holding that blasted box...", makes me think that he is remembering what took him away from his family and to the Institute.
It seems that he is either protecting his family from something that he caused and would be worse if he stayed or he caused something terrible to happen through his curiosity that he cannot live with around his family. He then makes everyone think is his this jerk because that is actually better than knowing what he really did, at least in his eyes. Who knows, I may be all wrong.
Hello, Ms. Cassandra. First of all, I'd like to say that I'm a huge fan of your books.I loved CA and I found all the characters to be wonderfully distinct from the characters from TMI. To be honest, I was sort of surprised that some people found similarites between characters from the two series because I couldn't find any besides the obvious ones between Will and Jace -- and even those two I found to be rather different. In any case, I loved Camille. Super excited to see her in CoFA, though I'm sure she'll cause all sorts of trouble.
Now, my question is one that I wouldn't be surprised if it was just mindless guessing and/or can't really be answered, but I'll give it a shot anyway. :)
Does Madeleine Bellefleur, who is mentioned repeatedly to have silver hair, have any relation to Jem? Does the fact that Clary remarks that Tessa looks familiar to her have to do with any resemblance Tessa may have with Madeleine? (As you can see, I am a very clearly hopeful Jem/Tessa fan, and clearly have to be making the assumption that Tessa is somehow not sterile in order for this to be plausible.)
I also remember you mentioning that there was a specific reason Jocelyn chose the last name 'Fray' and it's connection to 'Gray'. Did she possibly do it because Madeleine *was* in some way at least related to Tessa and Jocelyn was trying to establish clues for Madeleine to find her in case she ever needed to be revived from the potion? (Since, of course, she knew that Valentine wasn't dead and was always afraid he would return.)
Anyway, I realize I'm making some pretty wild theories and that there are several flaws in my argument -- but hey, I may as well try to get as much information as to whether or I'm right or wrong while I can. ;)
I also have a few questions about Madeleine herself, as I was always very curious about her. How was she always so aware of Valentine's true character? Did she fight in the Uprising? Did she ever try to find Jocelyn after she went missing?
Sorry for the long post, and thank you for all the questions you've answered so far; it's been fun trying to theorize what may happen from the hints you drop! I'm eagerly looking forward to your future books. Happy writing!

Which by the time you had asked me it, I had already repeatedly answered three or four times, and this:

which relates neither to any of my books, or to my writing. If you cannot be bothered to read the rules posted at the beginning of the thread (questions must be about my books or writing, no movie questions, etc) and you cannot be bothered to even briefly check to see if your question has already been answered elsewhere, it seems uncalled for to begin shrieking at other people for not paying enough attention to you. I am sure I have missed other people's questions, due to the overwhelming number of posts on this thread, but none of the rest of them have resorted to rudeness.

I'm glad you thought so! Let me just say, a lot of people did not. Boy did I get a lot of email complaining thst the ending wasn't resolved.
I did not always plan for the books to be six. For one thing, it's really really hard as a debut writer to sell six books. Three's a lot easier. Then I had the Infernal Devices idea and I sold those. BUT I did always plan to spin off other stories from the end of City of Glass. In fact, by the time I wrote City of Glass I had a deal in place to write a graphic novel series about Simon, so I deliberately left most of his plot threads - what does the Mark of Cain really mean, what girl will he end up with — unresolved. In fact, I deliberately left several plot threads, even those that didn't have to do with Simon, unresolved so that they could be touched on in the Simon comics.
Then the graphic novel deal fell through, but I still wanted to write the story. Stories don't just go out of your head because you can't come to a contractual agreement about them. So I decided to write it as a novel, an as soon as I did, subplots started springing up around Simon's story like weeds and pretty soon I had a new trilogy about all the characters.
Cassandra, I just want to say that I come across alot of "customers" at my job who feel that their needs/questions are more important than everyone elses. I've learned to pay them no attention and let them just storm off. Some people dont take the time to actually think that one your a person just like them and two the world doesnt revolve around them and you are no on this earth to cater to their every need.Its really a shame but thank you for doing this post and reaching out to everyone. Alot of times when people start to feel like because the perchased something with your name on it or from you in my case they now own you and you should cater to them it causes you to shut ur self out from others and stop reaching out. I'm glad that you don't do that.

Hi Cassandra, I read Clockwork Angel 2 weeks ago (i loved it!) and am re-reading the MI books again. At City of Ashes, Simon turns into a vampire, because while he was a rat, he ingested some of Raphaels blood. I get all that. I remembered though that Will had that same problem too in Clockwork, and he knew how to overcome the side effects by drinking holy water, right? My question is, if the shadowhunters know about this side effect (obviously they knew about it way back in the 1800's), how come nobody warned Simon about this? Didn't Jace and the others know about the dangers of biting a vampire? I know he didn't like Simon at the beginning, but that is beyond mean to keep this infomation from him (if he kept it away on purpose). If Simon had known, he would not have sought out the vampires lair, and thus would not be a vampire today! (Though of course the story would not be the same! But with or without Simon becoming a vampire, I love his character any way.)I was just thinking that if I was Clary, and I found out that Jace knew about this "side effect" and did not warn Simon, I would not be able to forgive him!
I love re-reading the books and comparing trivial similarities and differences between MI and ID. I'm gla that I get to read them 'out-of order', more interesting that way!

No, Jace didn't keep this information from Simon and Clary to be mean. I've always thought that, in the course of the incredibly confusing and swift-moving events of the night, he simply didn't think of Simon having given Raphael a quick bite in rat form later, or pushed it to the back of his mind. Remember, it's not like getting a bit of vampire blood in your mouth actually turns you into a a vampire — it just makes you want to go seek out the vampire whose blood you drank. If Simon had simply stayed away from the Dumort another week (and he never tells anyone about his symptoms, either) he'd have been fine. He didn't consume anywhere near the amount of blood Will did. It was a really unfortunate concentation of circumstances that led to Simon becoming a vampire, but not anyone's intentional fault.
