Here you get a certificate in yr 10, where you can drop out. You can then get a certificate at yr 12 and/or a University admittance score to go to uni. The benefit to our system however is you can also go to school for another 2 years and choose to get courses towards apprenticeships in trades if you wish. In my territory the benefit is we have about a 98% retention rate to the end of yr 12.
Hmmm... maybe I should give him another shot...

Easy done if you wish! I hear the "mature age student" exam (which you can take at 21) is pretty easy. I'm sure your blog shows more comprehension and problem solving skills than they test. Submit that! :P

The wonderful about going to College was that people didn't have to be there if they didn't want to be, which dealt with behavioural issues. If you missed more than 3 classes per "line" (we had 7 "lines" per week) you needed a note from your parents, otherwise you could write your own. We had 3 rules at my College also. 1. No smoking inside. 2. No pets. 3. You must wear shoes (thongs/flip-flops allowed). At 16, this was amazing and as you were treated as a grown-up, you sort-of wanted to be there...
I learnt about this system at Uni in the Sociology of Education. Only time that every single element of what teachers, students and parents was incorporated. Everyone is happy and it works. But we are intent on a Federal level on trying to get rid of it. /Sigh.

You may have? Do tell! LOL!

I'm not admitting to anything. I find this is the best thing to do with most actions that occur at 1am on a Saturday night.

I've got that chunker too! I was surprised at how fat the book was.

That's a good guideline to adopt.

He's a great writer and from what I can tell he loves to write chunksters. I read The Terror by him last year and that was almost 1,000 pages. Love his writing though!

Now they have a sale on that if you use 4 credits by Saturday, you'll get a $10.00 certificate. I have 3 credits left until October 1st (wouldn't you know it). BUT, they have a special on just now to buy 3 credits at a reduced price. My fingers crept towards the "add to shopping cart" button, but my left hand slapped them away. Seriously! We have a problem.

Not yet winter is coming and long books are great reading in the winter months.

such restraint you have.

I also ordered a hard copy of Brene Brown's new book Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead, because I so enjoyed her other books, and she is doing a read along on her blog, in which I plan to participate.

LOL I didn't do it on purpose, but it does seem to be a happy serendipity!

I have always wondered what I would think if I read them for fun. I do have East of Eden marked for that experiment, when I run out of other things to read (Hah!).
