To Splurge or Not To Splurge
LOL! Guess so. Although my love for the genre goes back to 1984, I think. Either way, I'm enjoying the ones I've read so far. Some how they always make this crazy world we live in feel a bit brighter. ;)
Better World Books has a 20% off sale of used books till the 26 April, so I just had to go browsing & buying. LOL
I've been wondering how Murphy's Negotiator Trilogy and Inheritors' Cycle series are. I have the trilogy TBR as well.Yesterday at the PX, I found
in the young adult section. Not were it belongs, but happy to find it. I've been wondering how I'll like it. I loved her Gardella series. We'll see, it's sittin' on the shelf w/the lot.
I got the Negotiator Trilogy cause (sorry, I forget who it was) someone highly recommended it, the covers look so pretty and they were cheap. LOL
I've been very naughty these days, couldn't stop myself from buying books! Here's my list:
Some of those are pre-orders, they haven't been published yet
Arriving today (hopefully):
I sense a theme. ;-)
Plus, I won a signed ARC of
in a charity auction (did I mention this already??? Sorry if repeating myself). I tried to be good and not read ANY of it before Darkfire Kiss, but I couldn't help myself and so I stumbled across a bit of info that is a spoiler for his book. (grumbles).
Great list CA, there's only 3 I don't have and 1 of those I read from the library, so a great haul, if I do say so myself. LOL.Christina, looking forward to the new dragon book by Thea Harrison, and of course next in dragonfire. Didn't know about Dragon Diaries so thanks for that, I'll put it on the list.
Wow CA! So jel. Agree with Sandra, real good series there, enjoy!Dragons! How exciting, will add to the list also :)
Sandra -- From the bits I've read, I really like Ms. Cooke's voice as Zoe. I think it's going to be a good series.I've heard nothing but good reviews for Ms. Harrison's book.
Shape-shifters are my preferred paranormal group. Dragons are fast becoming my favorite type. :D
I've had a dragon shelf almost since I joined GR. LOLLooking forward to all 3 TH's books, got them on the next to buy list.
Love the Dragons :D
Sandra, Have you read Marjorie B. Kellogg's Dragon Quartet. Not PNR. It leans more toward fantasy/alternate timeline. It's been a long time since I've read them, but I would say it start's out strong in The Book of Earth and slides down towards fair in The Book of Air. But ... DRAGONS!
I also remember reading Patricia Wrede's Enchanted Forest Chronicles around the same time. Fantasy series.
Thanks Daffodil, haven't read either of those series. I'll see if I can get them at the library. I've got a better chance of getting these ones, my library is woefully short of paranormal but does tend to have fantasy type books.
You're welcome. I hope you can find them at your library. I only passed the recommendations on because of your dragon shelf/comment. I don't really remember much about Wrede's series, so I can't tell you much. They could have been great or awful, I'm just not sure this far down the road. I do remember being disappointed with Kellogg's development of her series. Earth raised my expectations higher than she managed to achieve with the final books. LOL. Really, I'm not trying to talk you out of reading them. I just don't want to mislead you about the quality to expect. And who knows, maybe your experience will be different.
No worries Daffodil, if I don't like 'em I'll just find Judithe's whip ... *laughs manically* ... No, really, if I don't put them in challenges then it won't matter if I don't like 'em cause I can stop or skip. Thanks for the recs regardless. LOL
Ok, so 3 Borders book stores have and or are going out of business near me, so I have been spending the last 2 months buying like a fiend... Prob. average 10 books a week, maybe more as the discount % goes up. Some of what I have bought are:
(the whole series)
1-10
Umm, ya, and way more... lol! Got my work cut out for me- now Im just woried about filling in my series holes for um... well ya, a BUNCH of stuff, without going broke!
So Book Depository was feeling neglected, couldn't have that. LOL. Some of these were great recs from fellow SOSers.
Went wild this weekend, LOL. It's been a while since I went on a book spree though, so it's okay. Right? Any enablers out there? From Borders, with 10% off entire purchase, buy 4 romance get 1 free, and a 40% off one item coupon:
The first 5 are untried authors, buying strictly because of what I've read here. So, if I don't like 'em, it's your fault. LOL.
and from the $1.99 Wal-Mart bin:
I'm itchin' to use that BD coupon. Maybe I can sneak it in without hubby realizing I've only just recently placed a big order. LOL!
I'm collecting a list of books for the next one too :)There's going to be some pre-ordering fun real soon, especially as I just paid off the cc. LOL.
OK, most of my latest using the 10% off BD were pre-orders so I put them on that thread, but a couple of ones already out -
Remember that pain in the ass volcanic ash cloud from last year? Well, another freakin' Icelandic volcano blew its load! Scotland, Northern Ireland and the north of England are all no-fly zones. I'm praying very hard that flights in the south of England will still be operational.

Okay, I am really tired. I think perhaps I got it wrong and it's still only 10%. The "extra" confused me. I need some sleep. Sorry.
LOL! No worries. But, I was all "Yeah! So glad I haven't used my coupon yet!" and then ":\ oh. ok." LMAO!
Another one saving money on Magic Slays, Yay!Cause you know you were always gonna buy it, didn't you Daffodil ;)
::whistling::Oh. Who, me? Hmmm, It might have been on the list. In fact, it might have been at the top of the list, just below
.The only reason I didn't use the coupon on Kiss is there's already a huge pre-order discount on it.
I have my pre-orders for
and
, but today I snuck in a pre-order of the eBooks from Diesel as well. >;) Hubby doesn't need to know I'll have two copies. Figure I've waited long enough and want them in my iTouch on the day vs. waitin' for the wee mail man.
@Sandra, how is BWB? Are the books in good condition? I've been eyeing that store for a while but haven't ordered anything yet.
Ames, some books look brand new, even though they say are used, others have been well read. None have been really bad, they basically tell you if there are marks inside or bad creasing. A lot of them are library books, so once again some well used others not read at all.
I find they are good for older books or hard to get books. Great if you want to grab books from a series that is well under way. I wouldn't buy new books from them cause they cost a lot more than BD.
