I am currently at a bridal shower. My cousin's fiancé asked me to be a bridesmaid and I am the youngest one here. I don't have much in common with the other girls at the table, who have known the bride since high school. It's a wee bit awkward
That sucks Claire :(. I'm currently sitting at home, reading a book, searching for a family which would took me as an au pair for few months (anyone searching for one?), and am trying to drown out the music from someones wedding - the band just sucks so much that my head feels like it's gonna explode :(
I'm just reading... being at a wedding/bridal shower where you don't really know anyone sucks! I was in my college best friend's wedding, and I barely knew anyone in the bridal party.
I went to my sister's wedding and the only people that I knew were family and a couple of her friends that she had had for forever.... She married into a big family and they are huuuuge. I was glad I was blind because I didn't have to see the billion people there.I showed up, stood where I had to for pictures, and enjoyed the cake and talking to family I hadn't talked to since 5 years or so back when I had just gotten out of the hospital and had gone to california for my aunt's 50th.
I wish I could get an au pair ... could have someone to drive me to the store or school and tell me if something doesn't match. :P Though I have got my clothes matching down, I just sometimes mix up undershirt/tanks. They are the same style just different colors!
I've watched Eurovision tonight. The songs were ok, well they sounded ok, even if I didn't understand them, the costumes were pretty weird...especially the one from Romania...err and his voice...ehh...quite a surprize...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OV3xp...
What do you think?
Weird, right?
I did not click that, nothing I hate more than sound on a website I can't shut off asap. At least I am not in the clueless section alone.
I'm afraid to click that link.Anyway the bridal shower got better and I didn't mind. I spent today shopping with my mother. We got her a dress for the wedding and it's gorgeous. I'm so envious! My bridesmaids dress isn't ugly, it's just not to my taste.
Not sure if I found the song or the dancers more alarming...@Llaph the song is only the half of it! At the point where the singer (dressed as a glittery dracula perhaps?) goes into the falsetto, 3 dancers in 'nude' costumes appear from under a red plastic sheet which has been laid out at his feet and start some gymnastic, semi sexual writhing at his feet...
@Anna- dressed as a glittery dracula perhaps? I am inclined to to one of his brides...he is wearing a corset and a skirt for god's sake...
All of this talk is giving me flashbacks of years ago when marilyn manson dressed up in a rubber suit with boobs for a while....thnx mental image :P
A cross between Mrs Dracula and a volcano perhaps? Did you notice that he must have been on a platform as he 'grew'!
He is a paragon of society ... and everything my dad says is gospel ... and everything said on the internet is true....
@ Anna- maybe a pank/emo Mrs Dracula with platforms and I was really disappointed that I didn't saw a Mohawk...

And different. Definitely different. When he took that really high note I wondered if they would show some shattering glass - seemed appropriate.

My reaction lol.
@Lannister Hope you feel better.Real life sucks, why can't live in an imaginary one?
Oh wait...I do...when I have time to read a nice book :)
not related to Uni classes, because those...gah! I hate them.
Thank you everyone, I'm feeling much better. Also, I'm off work Friday and Monday and am about to leave the office. That's making me VERY smiley indeed! :D :D :D
Do you guys celebrate this weekend in some way? It's memorial day weekend in the U.S.--in honor of fallen and missing soldiers and heroes. Practically speaking, It's the beginning of summer!
Monday is a public holiday and most schools and offices are off. I'm not actually sure of the history behind this particular holiday. We also have the first Monday in May as a public holiday too, but I think that one can trace its roots back to the Beltane festival (an ancient pagan and celtic festival).I will research!
I just know it is mardi gras ... which is actually a week or so long event after lent? I suck at the history part ... fat tuesday is the last day of the festivities. There are a lot of old traditions in that part of the country. One I rather like because I like red beans and rice is that they are usually made on a monday. That day was the launddry day and red beans is one of those set it and forget it till it is time for dinner sort of meals. Since there are a lot of catholics fridays are generally fried catfish days!
(I used to work at a grocery store or two when I lived there so I knew the deli menu most of the time)
Well it seems Monday's holiday in the UK was originally in honour of Whitsun, the UK's name for the Christian Pentecost festival (thank you Wikipedia). Who knew?I'm kinda amused with myself that I know the Celtic holidays but not the Christian ones.
Thanks for that info, Llaph. I like hearing this kind of stuff. :)Also, I approve of any holiday that includes lots of yummy food!
mmmm now I was reminded of king cake. Man, I will miss those....I always thought of them as giant doughnuts with cream filling. Though the filling can be different things. The "baby" in the cake doesn't change though.
O and they ar covered in sprinkles ... I love sprinkles.
Hahah you're basically right, Llaph. Fat Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday, the official start of Lent. The deal is everyone parties before Lent starts because it's supposed to be 40 days where you give something up. Also is anyone friends on here with someone named Douglas Franks? He just sent me a friend request but I have no idea who he is.
I'm not friends with him. Is he an author? I get a lot of author friend requests, which can be a bit spammy.
yeah I get annoyed when an author I don't know tries to friend me... I get it, they are trying to get themselves publicity, but I still don't friend them. I friend people I know and people I know through groups because of our book similarities.
i wouldn't friend him if he doesn't have any of your other friend's on his list. He's probably just trying to beef up his list.I just had a random guy friend me, but he commented on my review and we talked books, so it was cool by me.
