Jeanette Hornby (goodreadscomuser_jeanettehornby) | 107 comments Technically this is poetry but thought someone would like a laugh.

THESE ARE ENTRIES TO A WASHINGTON POST COMPETITION
ASKING FOR A TWO-LINE RHYME
WITH THE MOST ROMANTIC FIRST LINE,
AND THE LEAST ROMANTIC SECOND LINE:

1. My darling, my lover, my beautiful wife:
Marrying you has screwed up my life.

2. I see your face when I am dreaming.
That's why I always wake up screaming.

3. Kind, intelligent, loving and hot;
This describes everything you are not.

4. Love may be beautiful, love may be bliss,
But I only slept with you 'cause I was pissed.

5. I thought that I could love no other
-- that is until I met your brother.

6. Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you.
But the roses are wilting, the violets are dead, the sugar bowl's
empty and so is your head.

7. I want to feel your sweet embrace;
But don't take that paper bag off your face.

8. I love your smile, your face, and your eyes
Damn, I'm good at telling lies!

9. My love, you take my breath away.
What have you stepped in to smell this way?

10. My feelings for you no words can tell,
Except for maybe 'Go to hell.'

11. What inspired this amorous rhyme?
Two parts vodka, one part lime.

WHO SAID POETRY IS BORING

Cathy | 123 comments For anyone on Sydney's north side, St Ives High School is having its fair today from 3pm - there's a book stall and I always pick up a bundle - usually 5 for $20 I think. And ...I'll be working the Italian pasta stall (I've been making bolognaise and vegetarian sauces) and my son is playing in a metal band at 7pm. Big day!

message 4358: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments hmm...Got our exam time tables via email recently. Not this week, but next. End of year exams, then bring on year 11!
Timetable seems pretty kind, one 'easy' subject, one 'hard' subject a day (at least for me). Thats good, because last semester all the hard subjects were on the same days, and studying as impossible :/

Just popping in to say hello. I've been absent for a while, trying to sort a few things out at home, and works been frantic. I also had a bit of an identity crisis and changed my name. Was Gail . My apologies if the change has confused anyone.

★ Jess | 3071 comments I dunno if I can post this here, but whatever.
It is for a petition to create a large, world class marine park to protect the Coral Sea and all its stunning bio-diversity.
I was introduced to this cause through Angus & Julia Stone and Isabel Lucas' video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yosBV...

and you can sign the petition here, which also fully explains everything: http://www.protectourcoralsea.org.au/...

It would be awesome if you could take 5 minutes of your time to help this fantastic cause :)

message 4374: by [deleted user] (new)

I just re-joined after reading Jess's post, I, who actually live's in the area effected by this proposal am totally against it, the greens and radicals will push that the fish stocks are being fished out, well this is crap, do the southern powers that be actually know how many lives will be ruined by this knee jerk reaction from Canberra polies who don't have a clue, it is getting to the stage that I won't be able to throw a line from the jetty, I'm not joking as already the "fish" police check dilly bags of those who do. I don't know who enjoys eating fish here, but if this proposal is passed be prepared to eat frozen imported fish from the likes of Indonesia & Sth Africa.

★ Jess | 3071 comments Thank you so much Michael, Emily and Brenda! :) I agree, its an extremely important cause! In the last 50 years 90% of large fish have been wiped out, we cant just sit back and let everything else die.

Why not Jess, we seem to sit back as the citrus farmers plough their trees into the ground because of imported fruits & the pigeries that have closed down due to pork imports what about today as farmers are being forced off their land as the government supports the mining companies moving in & "fracking' contaminating water as they search for gas & coal.

I'm not 'picking' specifically on you Jess, but there are much larger serious issues than this so called marine park that if is passed will put hundreds out of work & ruin families.

we should be doing something about all of those things david, but you have to start somewhere, this is just one issue that Jess is passionate about does not mean other people are not doing the same thing on other issues. and who decides which issues are more important?

also the petition jess has linked is a citizen one its not a vote on any passing legislation its to show your local member that this is something your concerned about, it wont mean they will stop all fishing, it will mean that hopefully it will get the ball rolling on government discussing ideas.

she is also just asking people to check it out, if you don't agree with it then don't sign it.

Yes Melanie, what you put together was very well said & I do realise Jess is passionate about this issue, as am I passionate about it not getting to parliment but unfortunately it is there, as it is the minister for stuff ups Peter Garrett's baby.

I'll say no more on this, as once again I'm starting to "offside" people.

message 4390: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments We can agree to disagree on this important issue.

message 4391: by Neko (new)

Neko There is no "offside" it's more of what Jess said, people can agree to disagree on the issue. That's pretty normal stuff.

And now I think we'll close the topic about it and move along to something else.

SO..Who here has started planning for Christmas!?!

Melanie! What a good idea! I could handle that;D

We have just had our 'last meal'...heading off in the morning to make our way home again. Boy, that week went quickly!! Worst news is that we've received a weather alert for the complete area we are travelling, from here, all the way down to home! Flash flooding etc etc!!! So we look like having a wet trip home, but are hoping it turns into a false alarm!!

message 4394: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80174 comments Mod
Thanks guys! We won't take any risks....if there's flooding, we'll stay put!

message 4395: by [deleted user] (new)

always look forward to Christmas with our Grandaughters in Mareeba, would love to spend more time with Grandsons & another Grandaughter west of Ipswich, but it can't be )-: one thing I am looking forward to though is pre-recording with Pixie Jenkins for his Christmas morning program on - 98.9fm Brisbane Indigenous Media Association - It will be a chat about my book & I will record my poem "Santa's Aussie Chistmas"...(-:

Sounds like a lovely Christmas to look forward to David. It's always wonderful with family, and as ours is such a huge country, it's not often possible to spend it with them all together. Have a great Christmas, and enjoy the pre-recording...sounds like a good poem! Is that one in your new book?

message 4397: by [deleted user] (new)

This was yesterday at Port Douglas accepting my 1st place award, presented by 'Pablo' Freeman from Reef Writers, this award is for the open poetry section and is an annual event by the Reef Writers & the Port Douglas Gazette.
