Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments Much belated congratulations to Jessica on the French oral - I've got to spend more time here, so much happens if I miss a day or two.

I'm a little excited myself at the mo' as I got back the MS from my editor today - course that means I now have to go through and make all the necessary corrections but I can see the end goal in sight.... yeah!

Amber (elfkingdom) | 366 comments Hey everyone, just to give you a heads up, tomorrow news will go out that at close of business April 3, Angus and Robertson will not be accepting any vouchers at all. :-( I found out this morning when I got to work.

message 1767: by Neko (new)

Neko thanks for the heads up wishful. hopefully this means stores aren't providing them to people either otherwise there will be some angry customers since 3rd of April isn't far away.

G'day everyone & all the newbies, good news at last, I received an email from my publisher in the States & I should have a 'proof' copy of my book in about a week, it's been a long and painful trip but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now.

message 1773: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I'm excited - we're off to sign the contract on our new apartment tonight! It's a smaller place, no yard, but cheaper and better located. Since two housemates are moving on, it's good that the three of us left can have a fresh start.

The irony is that we stayed in that same small complex years ago when my now 14 yo was a tiny one.

Moving might keep me busy - I've done a lot of prep work but I might not check in here quite as often for awhile, until May 31 when we have to be all out of this current house.

Wow, that's great Cheryl! I always hate the actual moving part, but it's great to be in a 'new' place!! The advantage for you having stayed there years ago, you will know where everything is...lol

message 1775: by Neko (new)

Neko Wow...The rain was terrible here yesterday..."Record rain fell in some areas, including Gray, where 327mm fell in the 24 hours to 9am yesterday."

Thankfully, it is now sunny outside..Still bit over cloudy/glarey(sp) and a very light sprinkle of rain.

Yeah well think about all the poor Aussies (in the floods and cyclone), the Kiwis (in their earthquake) and now all the Japanese (with their earthquake, tsunamis, shockwaves and now radiation and explosions)and just this morning I heard something about an earthquake in Burmar. We should always remind ourselves: there is always someone worse off than you! Be thankful for what you have rather than wanting something that you don't need or wasting things that you take for granted.

It's a crazy situation. We're not selling vouchers, soon we won't be receiving them, we can't take customer orders, we're not really getting any deliveries in which means we're missing out on all the new releases...ugh. And then of course there are the 50% off sales going on in stores...

I was in an A&R store today, and there was an old man trying to work out what to do...he had a $30 gift card, which he knew he had to use by 3/4, but he was very confused about the sale etc. So I headed him over to the wall with the 50% off sale tickets, and told him to pick out some of them, that he'd get double the amount of books for his money. He was very happy with my help:)

:-) you're a good lady! I know it's confusing, and people have a right to be unhappy with the situation - I would be if I were a customer; I'm not happy and I'm a staff member - but I'm not looking forward to going to work after April 3rd :-(

Where do you go then? Will your store be closed, or are you just worried about the irate customers you'll get? And I'm 100% positive there'll be those!! Not fair on either the staff or the customers, is it!!

Well, the general opinion is that A&R stores won't be open much longer - not the way they're going! Staff have been told to be positive, but sometimes it's hard...and I'm very worried about the angry people who'll come in! We've already had such abuse about the vouchers and inability to take customer orders...as you say, not good for those on either side of the counter!

Well, we are going out to breakfast in the morning, (yum) then on to vote in our NSW State Election!!! So glad the ads on TV have finished...lol
Best part about it...booths will be closed this time tomorrow night, yay!!! So love politics (not)!!

message 1794: by Neko (new)

Neko @Wishful- Very sorry you've gotta put up with the angry customers. It can be tough thing to deal with especially when it's not your fault and completely out of your hands.

Tasmanian A&R must be owned by someone completely different then as our stores aren't being effected by all of this.

@Brenda- Mmm..Have French toast! Enjoy your breakfast out :D Hahaha, don't you just LOVE those election ads -.-;

I know in retail there's always the possibility of angry customers; unfortunately, I think we're going to be in for it even more so than usual in the next few weeks :-( So I apologise in advance, because I might be coming on here to vent every now and then!!

message 1798: by Neko (new)

Neko Nah, no worries :) I've worked in retail before and know of how annoying angry customers can be. I think customers sometimes forget they are just dealing with other humans beingings, it's not like the staff can snap their fingers and fix everything up.

message 1799: by [deleted user] (new)

ahh angry costumers are the worst i feel for you wishful..and ill be extra nice to our A&R staff haha but i dont think our stores are effected either :D

@ Laura i got a beagle she is two so not really a puppy but she is a miniature one, their called pocket beagles and we had no idea they existed till we looked up why she was so small ill find a pic and post it
