Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9988 comments @ Vicki, Julie, Dale, Carolyn, thanks for your good wishes and good advice. We will certainly be raising those points with the dealership where I not only had it serviced for 10 years but originally bought the car.
I guess I have been a little too trusting, thinking that they know this car and would be able to diagnose the problem. Also, having no mechanical knowledge makes it hard to dispute much of what they say.
Certainly won't be buying a car there again!
It's a pity that my relationship with my little yellow car has to end on such a sour note: It had been a good and faithful servant until the last few months.

That's cute, Marianne!! Hope you don't find it too hard to say goodbye to your baby! Although it may be easier if said baby has been giving you grief for a while!!

Carolyn | 9868 comments Has anyone had any experience of laser eye surgery?

I've worn glasses for short sightedness since I was a teenager and when I started getting long sighted a few years ago had to get multifocals for reading and sewing.

Lately I've been getting headaches working at the computer so I saw the optometrist yesterday and he said I need a separate pair of multifocals just for computer work and reading as they can longer get the depth of vision I need for distance and close work onto a single pair of glasses. Another option is to think about laser surgery, although I'm not keen about letting anyone near my eyes with a laser.

I know what you mean about letting them get that close to your eyes :{
I know of someone who had laser surgery done and says it was fantastic...no more glasses at all...but its not permanent and only lasts about ten years. Certainly worth investigating though.

The specialist is happy with the way the drops have it under control now, thank goodness. It's in both eyes and Dad had it, so I guess it's hereditary:(

Precious things these eyes especially for us readers. I have never had laser surgery but my husband last year had surgery to repair a hole in his macular. Sounded scary to me but he came through it well and now only needs glasses for reading. Continual headaches are no fun so hope you end up making the right decision Carolyn.
Drops Brenda doesn't sound too bad a solution for you.

Lucky to get it caught - I have been tested since my 20s - my grandmother was totally blind and it runs in families so we've all been checked - my two girl cousins both have it (neither of the boys though)but so far so good for me.

I'm allergic to the drops so I take a Diamox tablet each night. Glaucoma is scary, it sneaks up on you like a shadow. I've already lost a portion of my field of vision.

I have laser eye surgery every three months or so for Open Angle Glaucoma (inherited, thanks Dad!). It doesn't hurt although the sound always gives me a start. Afterwards, I feel a pressure in my eye and the eye 'runs' for a few weeks (which is tiresome with make-up). I'd love to have sight-corrective laser surgery so I didn't have to stick glasses on my face every time I wanted to read/see something up close, sigh.

I'm pretty sure this is part of a standard eye test, and certainly if he goes to an optometrist and says Mum has glaucoma, they will test him.

I sympathise Veronica! That used to happen to us when our two boys were home during school holidays. Used to drive me nuts that we couldn't use the internet for the last week of every month. In the end we had to change to unlimited downloads and now they have holiday jobs during their Uni breaks so that limits their internet time :)

"Colleen McCullough, Australia's best-selling author, was a charmer," the obituary began. "Plain of feature, and certainly overweight, she was, nevertheless, a woman of wit and warmth. In one interview, she said: "I've never been into clothes or figure and the interesting thing is I never had any trouble attracting men."

They would just about have to be Katie, with the amount of backlash that's been all over social media and media! Simon & Schuster's Obituary was so much better -

RIP Colleen McCullough: We had the enormous pleasure of publishing Colleen’s books in North America and our CEO and President Carolyn Reidy paid special tribute with these words:
"Colleen McCullough was a born storyteller of limitless versatility. Since bursting on the scene with her unforgettable novel The Thorn Birds, Colleen has captivated millions with stories that can take us anywhere from Ancient Rome to Australia of bygone years to mysteries from America’s recent past, all told with her characteristic historical accuracy and attention to detail, and more importantly, her wisdom and perception about the ways of the human heart and mind. It has been a privilege to publish her, and a joy to know her these many years. "

Now that is far more fitting. It is reassuring that people have spoken against that poor representation of Colleen McCollough's achievements and that others have published more fitting obituaries.
