Oh dear, Angela! Hope all is fixed now. I hate the heat and think I would have just perished in the olden days.

When I read this Ryan.I thought, you're staying inside till April? Then the last comment made me realise you obviously weren't talking about AFL.

message 16905: by Dale (new)

Dale Harcombe | 6949 comments So am I Ryan and it's the only footy I would ever watch or talk about. But we're all different.

message 16906: by Dale (new)

Dale Harcombe | 6949 comments Nothing like the passion of us AFL fans, eh Michael, even if we do follow different teams?

message 16907: by Ryan (last edited Jan 21, 2015 08:32PM) (new)

Ryan Not a fan of the world game? No need to wait til April. It's always on.

message 16908: by Dale (new)

Dale Harcombe | 6949 comments Not a hope, Ryan. Will leave that to people like you and instead watch my replays of AFL till the season starts

We just arrived home from a lovely day out. Went to Gloucester to see my sister and her husband; had lunch and yakked for ages. Then got tangled up in the peak hour/school holiday traffic:( But we weren't in a hurry:)

message 16910: by Regina (new)

Regina I've been in Western Sydney today at the State Records office. Looking at probates etc (I love it). Best find for the day was a juicy divorce record (obviously not juicy for long ago relatives of mine, but juicy for me!)

It is fun - last one we found in our family was my grandfathers - just before he married my grandmother - 13 years after my mother had been born!! They had been living as man and wife all that time - had mum, had my aunty - then snuck off to the next county to get married while mum and my aunty were at school!!
HUGE family scandal! Mum mortified, aunt refused to speak to me for years, Nan and Pop had died by then. I thought it was great and wish they were still alive so I could ask how they met and fell in love.

That's a great story Sally!

message 16914: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 89 comments It is fun doing the family tree. I wanted to trace my Pop's first marriage to see if there were any half siblings for mum - but my aunt refused to let me as she said if Nan and Pop had wanted us to know they would have told us. So I am respecting her wishes - but mum really wants to know.

message 16915: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Good morning, everyone. I've been up since 2.30am but didn't come here because I didn't want to wake anyone:D

message 16916: by Dale (new)

Dale Harcombe | 6949 comments Very thoughtful of you Bette. I was lazy and didn't get up till 6.15 but have been otherwise occupied till now.

Sally906 | 89 comments popping in for my pre-work nosy around - alarm goes off at 5:45 and am at work by 7 - but don't start until 8

Put a bottle of wine in the fridge for Friday afternoon drinkies in the pool - so all ready for the day to end.

Just do what you need to do Sally nobody has to know only the people that want to know, I did and don't regret it - very interesting.

With help from family members like my son who during a visit to Edinburgh got a copy of my mother and father's marriage certificate, which provided information about her mother and father, I have been writing a blog post (for family only) called Family Matters.:-) A nephew dug out extensive information about my father's WW1 service at Gallipoli and on the Western Front where he was awarded the Military Cross.
I have also included my childhood and adventures as a foreign correspondent. Still working on it but it has been very rewarding to have children and grandchildren say they have enjoyed reading it so far.

And I love the story tree family. All kinds of gems come out.

Well Suzanne, if you ever want to start checking out your family history or any other kind of historical documents, then you live in a real handy place! (I'm in the Hunter Valley so takes more than 2 hours to get there)

It is a surreal experience. Handling some really old documents inspires a sense of awe. Yes a lot of my friends get a giggle out of what excites me!

Lol...you are a true family historian Regina! I get my kicks out of visiting cemeteries and most people think that's totally weird! All in the name of research...though I must admit to feeling a certain kind of relaxed when doing so, its like a meditation to me ;)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9989 comments Long weekend, huh! Doesn't register with me until everyone goes on about it and I see the double demerit points signs, as I never work Mondays. Although, for some bizarre reason that I don't argue with, I get half a day's pay when Monday is a public holiday.
So yeah, Happy Aussie Day, everyone! Chuck a few prawns on the barbie etc?

And belatedly, Laura, safe trip home: you'll be glad to be back.
