The Sword and Laser discussion
Introduction and welcome thread!

My name is Glenn and I am very happy I found this group. It is always good to see how others are doing with their reading and find some interesting new books I would never stumble upon. I am new to Goodreads and this place looks just wonderful! So I am looking forward to exploring! I am also interested in finding new friends to add. My interests are historical fiction, horror, fantasy, biographies, sci-fi, detective and mystery stories.... So if you think our reading piles could match and we could have a good chat about books, don't hesitate to add me :)

Welcome Divya. I'm sure the members of this group can more than fill your TBR list up with some staples of the SFF genre.
You can check out the What Else are you reading threads to see what our members are doing, but you can also make your own thread in that section if you want to ask for some suggestions.

Thanks
Welcome Ekhomagbe. Please ensure any self promotion is posted in the author self promotion section.
Good luck with your book.
Good luck with your book.

I got a practical job in a law firm (not a lawyer) and that's been me for the last 30 years, with SFF on the side. Kinda boring. But then I discovered beta reading. I can't write a thing, but I've found that I can help writers along the way, and I'm always impatient to get started on the next project. After all this time I've finally found a way to contribute to the SFF I love. I'm here to talk SFF, but if anyone needs a paid beta reader focused on SFF (as opposed to SFF being at the bottom of a list of genre options starting with rom-com), check out my profile.

My name is Jonas and I am most definately a Laser :)
I have been on Goodreads for several years now, however I just kept lists and track of my books but felt a bit lonely so decided to seek out like minded individuals. I can't wait to get stuck in!
Just finished reading Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein and loved it!

Welcome Holly. We'll glad fill you up on recommendations here, especially if you check out our What Else are you reading thread.

Once I'm done with the Robert Jordan books, I'll wander back into sci-fi. I always do.

Welcome Chiara. We'll happily pile you up with more books recommendations than you'll ever have time to read around here.

My reading has slowed in the last few years, and I hope to reinvigorate my reading habit, and to get a good handle on what's totally hot right now in the SciFi/Fantasy realm.

He's on my to-read list. But it'll be a while, because speaking of epics, I am reading the Wheel of Time series. Only two books in, so I've a ways to go....

My name's Christian. I love sci-fi and fantasy stories (especially when they're mashed together).
I've fallen out of touch with reading but I'm looking to get back into it. Looking forward to sharing these fun genres with y'all.
Glad to be here! :D

That happened to me a couple of years ago. I'd read all my life, without a break, and then suddenly, I couldn't bring myself to read any books. It lasted for a good year and a half. Now I'm reading again. Not sure why it happened, but it did. I'm happy I'm reading books again though :-)

I read all sorts of things including sci fi and fantasy. Never very good at picking favourites but I think anything by Douglas Adams or Philip Pullman's Dark Materials (original trilogy) would still often make my favourites lists!
Absolutely love Piranesi when I read it earlier this year so looking forward to hearing everyone's thoughts on that.
