Hi I'm Caroline. Im 22 and from Lincoln in the East Midlands, UK. A good friend recommended this so I thought I would join in as well. Iv always been a book worm! No real set structure to what I would read, it's generally anything that is recommended by friends. But I do tend to favour the more fantasy and sci-fi related books. Thanks :)

hi I'm Jen, I love both fantasy and Sci-fi but mostly read fantasy. I'm also a massive retro gamer as well as an avid tabletop gamer.my favorite authors include, Terry Pratchett, Robert Jordan, Douglas Adams.
I have just finished Ready Player One by Ernest Cline and am slowly making my way through my ever growing read list.
Hey, I'm Angela from Nova Scotia, Canada. I mainly read fantasy but I'd really like to expand my interests. My favourite author is Patrick Rothfuss. My favourite book is a little more difficult to choose though I've fallen in love with Kvothe from Kingkiller I think the book I could read a million times over is The Giver. It's stuck with me through the years and a long with Ender's Game I can enjoy it time and time again.
Besides that I'm a chill cat. Cat? Cats? I'm pretty much a cat lady with 3 adorable yet annoying furballs.
Hi, my name is Isabel, I've only recently gotten into Sword and Laser via Geek and Sundry on youtube. I was lurking for a while during semester where I have no time to read. I'm a big fan of fantasy, not such a fan of SF but I'm hoping this group will introduce me to some SF.
My name is Josh. I am currently a resident in a Pediatric hospital, so I am usually very busy. When I have some time to myself, I love reading science fiction and fantasy. I found this group through the goodreads app and thought it would be a good fit for me. I grew up on a steady diet of dystopian novels and Star Wars spin-offs. My all time favorites are The Lord of the Rings, Dune, and Mistborn novels, and I'm looking for new stuff to pick up. Looking forward to new worlds.
Hello everyone. I see this thread is working again. My name is Thom, or DancesWithWords, or DWW or bruce. I'm a fan of fantasy and sci-fi books. I'm according to my wife a bit of a know-it-all, which I disagree with as there tons of other ppl out there that know way more than me. In my pre-university days I read an average of 2 to 4 books a week, now I'm luck to read 10 a year. But my love of a good book has not waned just been replaces by life. A number of people around me would call me a geek or a nerd, I feel that is not so true as my generation of geeks and nerds would can either program or quote Monty Python... I can do neither. As a reader I have one guilty pleasure and that is reading the oh so horrible and trashy Rogue Angel series. I keep saying I won't be sucked into reading the next book and then it comes out and there I am reading the damn thing the very day it is released. Hopefully no one will hold it against me.

Hi, I'm Dan. Have been listening to the podcast and (forgetting to watch!) the Youtube videos since the summer. Love the show and am still finishing up Dirty Streets of Heaven.Have uncovered my 2 copies of the Hobbit. Looks like I'll be reading the 90's reprint, as my original copy is falling apart. I haven't read it since I was about 8, so it'll be great fun.
Hello! My name is Lori and I’m from Atlanta, GA. I've been a member for a few months, just haven't ever posted anything before now. I have also been watching Sword & Laser on Geek & Sundry. You guys have helped me find some great books to add to my rapidly expanding to-read list. I joined the group after attending a couple of literature panels at Dragon Con here in Atlanta where I realized that reading for fun had taken a backseat to other things for so long that I was woefully ignorant of anything that had been written in the last decade. November was the first month that I was able to read the selection along with the group and I enjoyed getting other perspectives on things while I was reading. I enjoy science fiction and fantasy over most other genres, but I delve into others periodically. If I had to do the math, I would say I’m 50% sword, 30% laser, 20% other.
Hi, I'm Chase. I live in Southern California and am currently attending college as a history major. I love sci-fi and fantasy with all my heart and count Star Wars, Star Trek, and Lord of the Rings as my most favorite series and franchises. I actually had never heard of Sword ad Laser up until a few day ago when I came across it in a feed on GetGlue. I've also heard of Geek and Sundry but haven't really explored. Sounds like I have work to do! Anyways, I'm glad to be here and excited to get recommendations for good books and have good discussions with other like-minded people.
Hi there, I'm Jerome. I live in the west of France (I got lost! Don't ask!) I'm a specialist in Nuclear Medicine, which is way cooler than it sounds, and I love books! Since I've been able to turn a page I've been hooked on books! Fantasy in my preference but I dabble in all things written. I'm glad I found this site and this group and look forward to much fun in the future!
Hi there! I'm new(ish) to Goodreads, and new to Sword and Laser! I've been watching on Geek and Sundry for quite some time, but never jumped on the bandwagon over here and thought it was about time. I was already reading Cloud Atlas when this group started, so I was really stoked to already be synced up! Even more so when we started the Hobbit a few days ago, as it's a tradition of mine to read it for Christmas.
I am a huge fantasy and science fiction fan, so I am looking forward to reading a variety of books and getting exposed to new authors! I typically stay within my own groupings, or recommendations from friends, so I think this is a great opportunity to branch out. I'm really very excited.
Hi I'm new to Goodreads, and new to Sword and Laser! I've been watching on Geek and Sundry for some time now,but never felt the need to join on this site then a friend sent me a invite and I thought why not and I'm glad I did.I read when I have time since I'm a college student. I have always loved to read I've been reading just about anything I could get my hands on since I learned to read. Reading books is a part of who I am it's why I want to be a journalist and write books on the side.
I am a fantasy and science fiction fan,so I am looking forward to reading many different kinds of books and discovering new authors. I typically stay within my own prefences, or recommendations from friends, so I think this is a great opportunity to branch out.
Hiya! I'm Willow.I'm a born and bred geek. I learned to read on a fantasy comic series, and it stuck. I have far too many authors I like, but I'll try to narrow it down a bit.
Favourite Sword authors are J.R.R. Tolkien, Guy Gavriel Kay, Katherine Kurtz, and Jim Butcher.
Favourite Laser authors are John Scalzi, Lois McMaster Bujold, Douglas Adams, and Robert A. Heinlein.
Hi, I'm JohnV. I was a voracious reader of fantasy/sci-fi starting back when I was 12. Fantasy/sci-fi remained my primary book genre up until my early 30's (twenty years), until the internet and job ate away at my reading time. Kindle sort of brought me back to reading in two ways: 1) there are many good cheap e-books, and 2) I ended up deciding to publish my own novel (The Supreme Warrior) that I had toyed with for more than 10 years and had sat in my computer as my query letters failed to attract even a sniff.
Right now, I am working on both a baseball novel (my other big interest is my yardbarker blog on the KC Royals) and a parody of a major fantasy series. Of course, to write a parody, I've been READING that series (and other big epic fantasy series) voraciously.
My favorite fantasy/sci-fi writers are Tolkien, Frank Herbert, Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, and Stephen Brust. More recently, I loved "The Hunger Games" and George RR Martin. I also am a fan of the lesser-known Dave Duncan.
Hello everyone, I'm Chip. As I'm sure you can probably guess, I'm a huge Sci-Fi/Fantasy buff so this group is perfect for me. Just a few of my favorite authors are Brandon Sanderson, J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, J.K. Rowling and I should stop before I take up the whole page.
I came across S&L on YouTube entirely by accident and I'm very glad that I did. Now I can't get enough! Thank you Tom and Veronica!
Greetings!: checkAvid reader: check
Sci-fi/fantasy favorite: check
Favorite authors: way too many [C.S. Lewis, Tolkien, Douglas Adams, Orson Scott Card, John Scalzi, Neil Gaiman, George R.R. Martin and so on] check
Much thanks to Veronica and Tom: check and double check
Looking forward to the fun!
Hey,Phil, British, will try anything once (except suicide and incest). Huge fan of many authors but currently hooked on Derek Landy and Neal Stephenson. Looking forward to broadening my literary horizons.

Hello, I'm Dennis. I write and draw comics and tv. The Hobbit was the first book I read on my own, having seen the cartoon and wanting more. And I read a LOT of comic books. Have too many fave authors but I do particularly like Stephen King, Ira Levin, Henry James and Robert B Parker.
Hello, I'm Dorothy.I like any sci-fi or fantasy. Just finished "Red Shirts" by John Scalzi and loved it. Can't wait to check out "old man's war".
Do you guys ever get into really "old" fantasy like Lord Dunsany or H.P. Lovecraft?
Thanks.
Hello all, my name is Rob! I am programmer just a few years out of college. One of the first set of books I have read on my own was the Lord of the Rings trilogy, though I have not picked up The Hobbit yet, so I am excited to pick up with Sword & Laser. My favorite book and author so far is Neuromancer by William Gibson which I have read 4 times now; it finally makes sense. The two other books which comprise The Sprawl trilogy (loosely) are also great reads.
Since I'm 24 hour On Call this month, reading this book will be a challenge. I'm looking for more efficient ways of consuming books.
I heard about S&L through the Geek and Sundry channel, and of that through The Guild and Felicia Day.

I'm sorry the role of a programmer named Rob has already been filled! o.O

Hi everyone, I am Martha.I came across Sword & Laser through the Geek & Sundry Channel. I have read several of the past picks though I lean more towards books that are on the Vaginal Fantasy book club lists. I read a variety of genres but Fantasy is my primary love. Urban fantasy, high fantasy, alt history fantasy etc. Tolkien, CS Lewis, Patrick Rothfuss, Michelle Sagara & Lindsay Buroker are some of my favorites.
Rob wrote: "I'm sorry the role of a programmer named Rob has already been filled! o.O"Blast! If this was a closed hashing table, our hashes would be clashing...with swords (and lasers?)!!
Nice to meet you, Rob. :)
Hi all,My name is Greg, and I've been reading Science Fiction/Fantasy since I picked up The Hobbit 25 years ago. Current favorites are Joe Abercrombie, George R. R. Martin, and Brandon Sanderson. I'm looking forward to getting some good reccomdendations and discussion from this group.
Hi everybody! I'm Phillip and I've been reading fantasy and science fiction since I was a kid. My uncle writes sci-fi as well and the constant stream of books from him and my parents really drove home my love of reading! I hope to gain inspiration for my own writing as well!
Hello! I'm Mike. Happy to be a part of The Sword and Laser. I'm an author: I write science fiction and fantasy novels. My first novel came out at the beginning of the month. It's funny being new to all of this. Goodreads - and these groups - is awesome. It's great to meet fellow sci fi freaks, and read the various discussion on novels that I love, hate, or from the thread, want to read.
Thanks!
-Mike
Hello, I've been lurking at this forum since S&L starting posting vids on Geek&Sundry. I started reading sci-fi fantasy as a kid back in the 70's with books like The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Dune, Anne McCaffrey's dragon books, et cetera. Lately, I've been enjoying the urban fantasy sub-genre and re-reading a lot of old faves from the 80's and 90's. ~Grimwyrd
Hello, hello! This is my first time as an active participant in the book club... I've been wanting to try it out for a while, but haven't had much time to read (full time college student). Of course, I did make time to reread The Hobbit for the movie, but low and behold was I excited to see The Hobbit as the pick this month!
I'm more of a fantasy reader, Tolkien being my favorite fantastical author. Also a fan of C.S. Lewis and I read some Piers Anthony back in the day. I have a stack of Ursula le Guin waiting to be read... I guess I'm a bit of a classic buff?

Hey, I'm Deon. I was raised on a steady diet of Stephen R. Donaldson, and various TSR paperbacks. I went though a rebellious phase of Anne Rice, followed it with a bout of Isaac Asimov, sprinkled in CS Lewis, and now I will read just about anything that never really happened.
Hello Sword & Laser Group,Heaven to me is a smooth green field that I can mow over and over again whilst listening to fantastical Audiobooks of all sorts
Awesome Show T & V!
Jackson
Hi thereI'm Richard from Scotland really just started getting sucked into scifi and fantasy books, haven't read nearly as much as most members of this group! Really enjoy the YouTube show.
Richard
Hello the name is Max Mathesius and I currently have a series in the long line of production that is eventually going to be made into a graphic novel or manga in the near future. Already 2 books have been released so far. Feel free to check it out.https://www.facebook.com/pages/Season...
Greetings, I'm Camilla from Denmark.I recently (within the last two weeks) found Geek and Sundry and with it: Sword and Laser! (Great show btw)
I've been reading fantasy books from pretty much 4th or 5th grade (my memory is fuzzy...).
I got inspired by watching all the previous YouTube episodes of the show to maybe try writing my own story. Right now I'm in a brainstorming phase. It hurts....
Hi! I'm Rejo from Texas. I've been meaning to join Goodreads and the Sword and Laser group for a while now and just decided to take the plunge today.I cut my teeth on comics and Lord of the Rings, but come time for freshman English class, my teacher introduced me to Robert Jordan and, for which I will ALWAYS admire her for: Samuel R Delany. I read pretty much nonstop and am always looking for more books to pick up.
Hello, I'm from Texas. Just discovered Goodreads a couple of months ago and now it's my new favorite website. Love swords and lasers, but I'm kinda going through this zombie phase.
Hey, I'm Lpnrad from Philadelphia, PA and I've been following the Sword and Laser group for several months, but now would like to add to the discussion.
Hey everyone. My name is Lorenzo and I'm from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Been following the podcast, the show and the books for a couple of months now. Decided it was time to really join the community.
Hello everyone, my name is Matias, and i'm from Argentina.I really enjoy reading, and i always looking for new books to "eat".
Hi,My name is Matt. I've been listening to sword and laser for a while. I've never had time to read the books or participate in the community here as my job never had room to read or listen to entire books. Now that my new job will allow significant free time I can actually be more involved. I attempted Nanowrimo this year but unfortunately didn't quite make it, 3000 words short. But this was my first so I say I gave a good stab at it.
I'm a big fan of science fiction, not so much fantasy but my mind is open to whatever this group can recommend. Can't wait to spend time here.

Hi everyone! I'm Sarah and I've loved SciFi and fantasy since grade 7 when my dad got me to start reading the Wheel of Time books. My faves would be Memory, Sorrow and Thorn by Tad Williams and Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay. I decided to join Sword and Laser (and also Vaginal Fantasy) after seeing the show on Geek and Sundry. Looking forward to getting all kinds of new authors to read that I may not have picked up on my own!
Hi all, I'm Patrick. From the intro's I've read here, I'm not all that different from everyone else. Long time Sci-Fi and Fantasy reader. Started with Piers Anthony's Xanth series, OSC's Ender series, and Raymond Feist's Magician series. So what am I looking for in this group - well I really am looking for a group to discuss books with, whose recommendations I can trust and can offer recommendations of books that I haven't read yet. I mostly read on my kindle, and I'm finding that I can't trust most of the recommendations for books and the majority of the auto recommendations from amazon seem to be self published works that more times than not miss the mark.
Anyway, looking forward to finding new great stories with you all!
Hey everyone. Just found out about this group when I read the anouncement for the sword and laser anthology on one of e blogs I read. I checked out the podcast and really enjoyed it. I'm excited to take part in the book club starting with Old Man's War in January.
Hi my name is Joseph & I love fantasy books. I just found The Sword & Laser and I love it. My favorite authors are Kevin Hearne, Jim Butcher, Rick Riordan, J.K. Rowling, Brandon Sanderson, & Patrick Rothfuss & I’m happy to find a place with other fantasy lovers.
Hello, I'm Will and have wandered over here after listening to the S&L podcast for a while. I've been reading as long as I can remember and love introducing people to books I love. I'm the kind of guy who will gladly give away his favorite copy of a book if it means I can get somebody to read it.
Hi, everyone! I'm Muriel.I've been a fantasy/science fiction reader as long as I can remember. It all started with Dr. Seuss & Grimm's Fairy Tales, and just never stopped. :-)
Among my favorite authors are Spider Robinson, Tanya Huff, Elizabeth Moon, Jim Butcher, Kim Harrison, Larry Correia, Diane Duane, and Dave Duncan. I'm always looking for new authors and series, so this group should be quite inspiring!
Hey all, Todd here. Though I've only been on Goodreads a short time it has really opened up my reading experience. Finally I have people to talk about books with. I went to school for literature but not the sci-fi/fantasy I like to read. Some favorite authors include Philip K. Dick, George R.R. Martin, Jack Vance, Dan Abnett, and so many more I can't do justice with memory.
Kevin Hearne is a new favorite, dude's had me burning through his books lately.
I'm excited to join the group. It looks well run and seems to be a pretty vibrant community of readers to which I hope to contribute.
