Iam Rohit, M 32 from Kota Rakajasthan.
I started reading at age of about 14, my first book was the hound of the baskervilles. :)

Famous five used to be one of my childhood favourites :) I had begun with the very first title in the series: Five on a Treasure Island.

Cheers to Enid Blyton for making our childhood awesome :)

Yes for some reason every library had her books. And her writing was very easy to follow and quite fun.

I started reading when I was in 8th standard and my first book was "THE MAGIC TREE HOUSE" series.

I guess i am going to read them again

I started reading it in class IIIrd I guess :)

I used to read Amar Chitra Katha comics - got a solid foundation on freedom fighters courtesy dad. We had three monthly story magazines (Bengali) coming in. they had stories, serialized novels, a few page of comics - the whole package. Used to read them voraciously. I remember my dad reading to me from these before I was in school, around 2 or 3 year old. I don't know if he bought those magazines for himself or for me. The latter, I guess. :)
I am so lucky to have the parents I have.

My grandfather and my dad both are bibliophile and I was dying to read something just to be part of that little private library they both had built up over the years. So yeah, not a great start but then it was all I needed.
Back in 2011, I left reading again. (because "agar novel padhoge toh IIT ka preparation kaise karoge?" ) So since I didn't land into IIT, it was time to go back to the wonderful smell of a new book. So this second start was with 'The clifton chronicle #1 (Only time will tell - Jeffery Archer). :) Now,I'm happy happy :P :)

I was of 10 years at that time!
Both of the book were greatly assuming but the book which made me to love literature was 'The Treasure Island' by Robert Louis!
Good books to chose, Rishit. :)
Ashwin, books have helped me preserved sanity during exams. Used to read even on days prior to University exams. Those were good stress busters.

Couldn't agree more! I read a couple of chapters everyday and it really helps me calm down ^_^

Hi. Your takeaway angle is interesting. If you find biological evolution interesting, you will probably find Desmond Morris' 'Naked Ape' enlightening. It's a funny and informative read.

My early reading years also included loads of Russian kids' lit, Dr Seuss and Richard Scarry
I moved on to Agatha Christie, Stephen King, Richmal Crompton's howlarious William series, James Herriott and PG Wodehouse. Along with the classics, of course - Treasure Island, Black Beauty, Hans Christian Andersen tales, Kidnapped, Heidi, Alice in Wonderland. This last one I really want to re-read as an adult, though.
One of my all-time-favourite childhood reads was The Princess and the Goblin
I'm really, really thankful to my parents - my mum, especially - for introducing this love for books in me so early.

William, one of my childhood sweethearts. I read Richmal Crompton even now, especially if I need cheering up.

A good book to start off with , Sneha :)
Pooja, I was Enid Blyton fan, rather than Carolyn Keene, though I did read Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys too.

Uncle Fred at the age of 8 is a feat indeed.
I actually was put off by the humor of Wodehouse when I tried reading him at 10 or so, and became a true Wodehouse fan only in my late teens.
