That's fine.

Alice (aliceg) | 424 comments Lisa,

I rolled a 5 and a 1.

For the book set in the 60s I have started reading The Invisible Mountain because in the blurb on the back it talks about the granddaughter in the 60s. Having started reading the book I have discovered that the book is set over three generations. The grandmother, the daughter (who is eva peron) and then the granddaughter. Each generation is focused on for a third of the book. So Eva Peron's live goes into the early 50s and then the story is taken over by her daughter which leads us into the 60s. Would this count for this task as the whole book isn't set in the 50s and 60s?

Alice

Alice, I'm afraid that The Invisible Mountain does not work for this portion of the task. The 2010 #5 part requires the book read to be primarily set in the 1950's or 1960's. I've read many reviews and synopsis of the book, and it appears that while a section about granddaughter, Salome, is set in the late 1960's, it isn't a large part of the book. Most all reviews describe the book as, "The Invisible Mountain, the new novel by Carolina De Robertis published by Random House Canada, traces the history of Uruguay since 1900 through the eyes of its women." Also, the daughter is not Eva Peron, but Eva Santos, whose story is told against the backdrop of the Peron reign.

I'm sorry this doesn't seem to be largely set in the proper time frame for the task, but I'm sure you will be able to find a spot for it somewhere else in the challenge. For instance, if you got South America in Task 15.3 Continental Divide. It also works for Task 15.6 One-Hit Wonders and Task 25.2A Her Debut, because it is the debut novel published by the author.

B (kristenlovesbooks) Agreed - very fun task! I rolled snake eyes! I'm planning to complete/read:

4. The Vampire Diaries
Read a book with a paranormal character. Club Dead

6. Glee
Read a book with a high school setting or musical main character. Thirteen Reasons Why (high school setting)

I'm glad you like the task! I'd love to hear what you think of Thirteen Reasons Why. I was looking at it again today at Barnes & Noble. I loved the entire Sookie series. Enjoy! :)

It certainly took a lot of thinking to conjure up such a fun and creative task! I love it! I will definitely let you know if you should delve into Thirteen Reasons Why - it's been one of those books I keep going back to as one I really want to venture into! :)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) | 1002 comments I read Thirteen Reasons Why and I really disliked it. I read a lot of reviews about it and I am probably one of the few people who disliked it. If you want to talk about it after you are finished reading it, let me know. I don't want to spoiler it with saying why I disliked it so much!

I read Thirteen Reasons Why for the Summer Challenge, and I enjoyed it. It's sad, a bit far fetched, but really hits home for most teens today.

Thanks!

I'll accept it. Westerns have their own section in Barnes & Noble. You could check out their covers. Also, lots of historical romances have western covers.

Look on the peach on the left side of the photo --- there is a bee there. I'm not planning to use this one for this task as I rolled a "1" for my second number; but for those who rolled a "4" and looking for a bee on the cover, this one will do :0)

Good pick up, Deedee! I read this on my Nook, so the bee was too small to identify.

Stephanie Super task, Lisa! Very creative!

I have to read a book about a mother as part of the task. Would Rosemary's Baby work for that part? I will not terminate our friendship if you reject it. :)

Since we have really similar tastes in books, I would love some recommendations for "mother" books if you have any off the top of your head. (If the Bee book mentioned doesn't count.)

Thanks!

I have the book too, and would definitely recommend it. Thanks!

I tried to add it to my list at the beginning of the thread, but I have exceeded the maximum amount of characters.

Sorry for the late response, I've been out of town. The cat needs to be a house cat.
