I read "The Magicians" by Lev Grossman (GoodReads Author)from the "Fantasy" shelf.

So not my kind of book. Took me a week to get through it. I will try other books if the look good, but it isn't my favorite genre.

Task #5.9 - Comfort Read.

Book Title: Spider Bones , by Kathy Reichs.

I chose this book because I enjoy Kathy Reichs' writing and her character, Temperance Brennan (I can relate so well to some of her more irrational moments). I like the mystery/suspense genre because it's usually fast reading for me. I snuggle under a blanket on the couch and try to knock these out in a day or two. I get a lot of enjoyment out of trying to figure out whodunit or what the mystery is all about.

15.3 Continental Divide....

South America:
My book took place in the rain forest of Bolivia.

Lost in the Jungle: A Harrowing True Story of Adventure and Survival by Yossi Ghinsberg
3.5 stars

I first learned of this story when I watching "I Shouldn't be Alive" on the Discovery Channel. Reading the story was just as riveting, and it seems the book was a little more honest about the arrogance of the men involved. It appeared they felt they were above or stronger than the laws of the jungle, but nature has a way of humbling us all. Great read overall if you can get over the guys' bickering and silly decisions.

Petra I completed Task 10.9 (Under the Covers) by reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. It was on the "8 Books featuring inventive (and immersive) Fantasy Worlds" list.

I'm finding the series to be quite amusing and imaginative.

I have already claimed points for 25.4 - Stayed Tuned for your Regularly Scheduled Programme but would like to swap a book!

I rolled a 5 and a 1.

For the 5 I claimed Saturday Night and Sunder Morning by Alan Sillitoe and I wish to keep that one.

For 1 I claimed Noah's Compass by Anne Tyler. I would like to change that book. I had to read a book with bare feet or a dinosaur on the cover. The book I would like to use for this task is now:

The Slap: A Novel The Slap A Novel by Christos Tsiolkas This is a small picture but the feet nearer to the front are bare!

As that is a change of book and I have already previously claimed those points there is no point change for that.

Noah's Compass I wish to move to a task I haven't already claimed for and that is as follows:

Task: 5.7 Circle of Life

Book: Noah's Compass by Anne Tyler.

20.2 Karen GHHS’s Task (Rookie on Top) – Music Tells the Story
I love musicals and opera so for this task choose your favorite musical or opera or one set in a time or place that interests you.
Then select a book or books from these options to reach a minimum of 300 pages:
A. The original novel your choice was based on:
Musical : Les Miserables
Book: Les Misérables
B. A nonfiction book about your choice:
Wicked: The Grimmerie, a Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Hit Broadway Musical
Richard Strauss, Salome
C. A book with the same setting as your choice (time or place or subject). This can be a real life or fantasy setting. This task is meant to be fun for you and allow you to find a way in which the two stories, musical and book, connect.
Examples:
Musical: Miss Saigon
Books: The Things They Carried
Matterhorn: A Novel of the Vietnam War
Musical: Wicked
Books:
Witch Child
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
The Witch of Blackbird Pond
Opera: Madame Butterfly
Books:
Memoirs of a Geisha
Kissing the Mask
The Teahouse Fire
Required: Name your musical or opera.
Optional: Explain the connections between your musical choice and your book choice

The Lion King is the musical. The book is The Lion by DeMille The protagonist The Lion in the book was as vicious and ruthless as Simba’s uncle Scar. Subject of conquering governments has similarities.

5.4 I'm Glad My Mother Didn't Name Me - Mary Lou

The Eighth Commandment by Lawrence Sanders. Main character was named Mary Lou.

5.8 Freedom To Read
From the Most Frequently Challenged list I chose The Awakening by Kate Chopin.

15.1 New Horizons
I chose Graphic Novel and picked The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: A Graphic Novel by Nunzio DeFilippis.
This was not a genre that I enjoyed at all and will not read another adaptation, I would much rather visualize the story as the author intended. Strange, I know. I love movies and watch many adaptations even if they do not meet the love that I have of the book, I always hope. This just seemed written for people that do not have the attention span for the words of the author. At least in a movie the actors try to give some emotion.

Heather | 384 comments 5.9 - Comfort Read I read Every Now and Then. Karen Kingsbury is a very "comfort read" author. No matter how cheesy the story, they always make me feel good and make me want to read her story.

New point total: 25 (oh how I hate when school starts up again and I can't just read all the time!!)
