Are you talking about the nicknames that us moderators have Dot? Because that is just a moderator superpower! *grins* Not for mere mortals!;)

There is also a 'search dicussion posts' box where you can enter someone's name, or your own of course, and it will come up with comments by that person (or yourself as the case may be)and also comments where their name is mentioned. This doesn't search one particular thread, but is useful when you're not sure which thread you used for making a particular comment that you want to follow. You can then click on the comment that you're interested in, and it will take you back to that discussion.

Melanie the grey nickname in italics is available to moderators only. You can edit your own name if you would like by editing your profile. It would not appear the same as Mandy's nickname.

I am looking for the way to add a photo to a message. I have uploaded the photos to my file section of GR, but can not work out how I post them in to the message.Would appreciate any help.

I have received a couple of reviews of my book recently and one of the reviewers has ticked WON - tried to find out what this means, but can't - any idea ?

Sorry Geoff, over my head :( Maybe Mandy or Gail might have some idea....
She has put it on her book shelf of books she has won! If you win books on goodreads they like you to identify them as such. I think it's an attempt to encourage others to enter the give-away competitions.
Ha Ha ! never thought of that one - tried to break down the letters - write one now, what o'nother, etc :-o)thanks Gail.
I think it's also an attempt to honor the ARCs as unfinished. If you've ever read an Advanced-Reading-Copy you've seen that there's a disclosure about the book being unfinished and subject to change before publication, so reviews based on the ARC may not be 100% relevant to the book as being sold. I mark that shelf as First-Reads to help distinguish.Also, Geoff, she may enter other contests besides GR's giveaways, and have books that she won elsewhere on that shelf. Just FYI, probably TMI.

Just found the most amazing feature on Goodreads. Did you know you can search books by 'Places'? For example you could search for all books that are set in Australia. Of course the setting of the book has to be entered by the person who initially adds the book to Goodreads but I know there are plenty of people in this group who are librarians and add books on occasion.I can't see how to get to the 'Places' page except via a book which has the setting entered as part of its description, so I'll put the links here:

From what I can see you can't add the 'setting' in the initial ’Add a New Book page‘.
You have to go into the 'edit details' of a book that's already been created: Example (look down the bottom of the page. You click on ‘add a new setting‘).
There are some problems with this feature.
* The 'Places' page is not searchable. You have to go through each page to find what you want. Luckily for us Australia is on the second page, HOWEVER...
* When you 'add a new setting' to a book you are prompted for the place name. The 'country' is optional. But if you just write the place name (e.g. Dubbo) and not the country you'll never find the book in an 'Australia' search.
* There seems to be no direct link to the 'Places' page. You have to go via individual books.

Not that I expected not to work, I was more bothered about me getting it right!
I will be overseas (Malayisa) from 14th March to 29th March and I wish to stop / suspend GR e-mails, so that my ISP's inbox doesn't throw a fit with overload. I will not have access to a computer while I am away, so how do I suspend messages?cheers

You need to go
1) into edit your profile.
2) Click on the tab Notifications.
3) untick all the boxes that identify emails to be sent, don't forget to click on [none] for notifications from your groups.
4) Don't forget to reset it on your return or we will come hunting you. :)

Thanks Gail - no I'll not forget as I am suspending all my 'links' with close to a hundred e-mails a day the inbox would shut down after a couple of weeks :-O)

I will not have access to a computer w..."Go to your name at the top right of the page. Click on the down arrow and select 'my account'. (you may be prompted to sign in at this stage) Click on the 'notifications' tab. This is the page where you control all the information that is sent to you.
Go about 2/3 down the page (below your list of groups) and you will see 'unsubscribe from all Goodreads emails'. Click on that. You will be able to unclick it when you get back from holidays.:)

Tried to be clever and put a line through the book I finished for the Autumn challenge. Did something majorly wrong(don't know what)and crossed out everything.

When I mean close it'll look something like <@strike>book<@/strike>
to show the code i added the @. But find your end code which should have the strike and make sure the / is infront of strike.
So it'll look like <@/strike> (again ingnore the @)

Sometimes imports come with lists of characters, places, etc. attached as tags or fields to the book description. The volunteer librarians (in the Librarians Group) will often add missing bits, including covers, if you ask there, especially if you can give them a link to the book page on goodreads and a link to the source of the info. you want them to add.
Is it just me or is anyone else not receiving the usual updates about all the groups they belong to? Every day or so I receive an email advising me of all the discussions that have taken place on Aussie Readers. I used to be notified of the other groups I belong to as well, but that no longer happens. I've checked my status on those groups and it is the same as ever, and the same as what I've selected for Aussie Readers.
So why don't I get told about those groups discussions too?

Question - I have noticed some of my friends have a list of favourite books on their profile - others done - I don't appear to have one. How do you get this to appear on your profile?

You can set which bookshelf it displays but by default it should display your favourite or favorite shelf
Sally go to the "Edit shelves" page- http://www.goodreads.com/shelf/editThen you'll just need to click on 'feature' on whichever bookshelf you want to feature on your front page. That should make it work :)
