Which LIST book did you just finish?
I finished reading Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude. Overall, I thought it was interesting, a bit slow and confusing at times, but the story of the Buendia family really drew me in *nods*
Just finished 'A Farewell To Arms'... interesting, but very bleak.
I just finished Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne. I really liked it :)
I gave up on that one just 20 pages in yesterday. Couldnt stand her writing style.
Just finished The Blind Assassin, Margaret Atwood
Recently finished -Lolita - Vladimir Nabokov
The Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger (reread)
The Nose - Nikolai Gogol

"The Professor's House"- Willa CatherEXCELLENT, but better understood by the over 50 group I think.
So glad to hear that Navi...I'm about to start The Swarm.
I just finished The Outlaws of the Marsh (aka Water Margins) yesterday and it was very very good. It is about 2000 pages long and is one of the four classics of ancient Chinese literature. It is very moving towards the end. I plan to write a larger critique of it soon under the specific book section. I started it in December, I believe.

Good taste anyway, I like Kate Mosse she's great :)

Thank you for the recommendations on the annotated version. I have heard great reviews on this books and it is on my TBR but haven't purchased because I didn't know what edition would be the best.
A Farewell to Arms! (That's on the list, right? My book is in storage...)
Just finished Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. I was expecting a sweeping romance novel, but this was soooo much better than just a "romance novel." Excellent, just excellent.
Just finished Summer will show by Townsend Warner and Breakfast of champions by Vonnegut. On nights at the moment and trying to decide what book to take tonight. Decisions, decisions.
Slaughterhouse-Five. I didn't realize that I had read it years earlier. I didn't like it any more this time!

I finally got to Everything That Rises Must Converge by Flannery O'Connor and I have to say, I did not really enjoy it. I think I am not in the correct frame of mind for it right now. Unlike Capote and Woolf, I found O'Connor's stories depressing, her tone of voice cynical and her characters pathetic, which is not a bad thing, if you are in the right mood. I will have to try her again sometime.

I don't know why I never read his stuff previously as a lot of ppl seem to read him in high school. I think we were reading Paradise Lost at the time instead :)
Just finished 'The Shipping News' by Proulx... I've got the DVD kicking around somewhere and never got around to watching it so might hunt it down and watch it now that I've read the book.
Judith Found it hard to like the main character, Sophia came across as quite a cold character so it was difficult to feel compassion for her.
Interesting to read about the French revolution in 1848, and how it affects Sophia and Minna's relationship.
I read this entire book last night.
Quite a quick read & not bad.
Just finished 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being' by Milan Kundera. I'm still not sure what to make of it but I'll let it stew for a while in my head.

I have not seen the movie but recall that it was panned. I think it's one of those books that is so atmospheric that film can't do it justice. Perhaps if it had been an indy production. - Becky

I have certainly not been to Newfoundland and I found the film useful in the sense that I could actually see the places that the book describes. Plus, it's not a bad film at all, although it does make some changes to the story line. By the way, I also loved that book.

last night. I loved the book, but I'm upset that I have no idea what will happen to Minnie...and I just feel like that is a loose end in the story. Beyond that, I loved it & highly recommend it.

I just love Conrad. I've already read The heart of darkness, Lord Jim and The Secret Agent, and now Nostromo. I loved every novel very much!
Just finished 3 off of THE LIST - The Awakening - good but others on the list with the same theme of middle-class woman dissatisfied with the social restrictions on her life (Madame Bovary and Anna Karenina) were much better
Schindler's Ark - (Schindler's List in the US) - great story of an awful period with examples of the best and worst in human nature... but not a literary gem - I don't think it belongs on this list
Bleak House - loved it! - my favorite Dickens (so far)
