30.7- Donna Jo's Task as suggested by Meghan: Good Spirits

"Yep that will work! The one on the left is for sure smiling. Even if the one in the front is hard to tell.
Hurrah for the ladies of Cranford! Thank you :) (And hurrah for Dame Judi - one of our great British treasures ;)
Some new ones:
and, this one I'm not sure about, the demons are smiling
Let me know if any don't apply!
Here's the one I'm reading for this task:
It's impossible to see in such a tiny picture, but I promise there are four people clearly smiling on the cover of it. It has really good ratings on GR, too. My mom read it in about two days, and it normally takes her weeks to read even a shorter book like this one.
Sara ♥ wrote: "I read North and South for this challenge, and it was awesome, too!"There's a great TV version of North and South too. The Beeb does costume drama so well!
In fact.... I guess I could read that for other half of the task - an Elizabeth Gaskell fest!

sorry no we are looking for pictures/drawings of people.
I will get back to you tonight. But all the rest work

Don't worry I was able to see the smiles (it looks like a family photo). So yes it is fine

It's my favorite Elizabeth Gaskell TV series... Mr. Thornton is DREAMY! ;)

(definitely a smirk)"Sorry I could have sworn I responded to yours earlier. Oh yeah it had a problem saving it. But
has already been approved, but I don't think that is really a smile in

Okay thanks. I thought it was a stretch, but isn't he a cutie pie :)? Was worth a shot!

I love dogs so of course he is adorable. I had three 'til we finally had to put one down this past weekend after 19 years. (Since I am only 23, he was pretty much my baby.)
Kathy G. wrote: "Is this enough of a smile???
"Sorry I don't really see the smile. I just see a straight face.
Kathy G. wrote: "How about
? If you click on the enlarged picture, you can see the smile better. Thanks."Yep that definitely works
Rach wrote: "This looks like a smirk to me, but I thought I'd check, as it's a little questionable.
"Yes that looks like a "little evil" smirk to me :)
Shoot, maybe I should scan it or something. I can't see it on-screen, but "in person" the lips are curved up, etc.

Thanks! It looks really cute! I got Rachel Gibson on my literature map and I had never heard of her. Lo and behold, when I went to the library, I ended up with FOUR books of hers that I really want to read -- that Literature Map is a smart cookie ;)Sadly for this task, most of her books suffer from "missing head cover syndrome" (what's up with that being so popular right now?).
Haha that seems to be my own problem as well. And just so everyone knows I am also having a hard time finding books with people smiling on the cover myself especially ones that I want to read. :) Oh well I will find something. Maybe in one of the series I am trying to fit in.

Vicky wrote: "Would any of these work as smiles? I'm trying to fit as many in as possible!

"I will take Volume 2 and volume 11, but the others just look too straight to me.

Edit: it could be very likely that a moderator could overrule me on this.

Meghan's decision stands.
would Bel Canto work? the man off to the right, next to the woman in the ball gown is grinning widely.

"You are good to go!
Kiki - you're going to love Bel Canto but I recommend having tissue nearby toward the end. There's a lot of emotionally moving scenes.

Yes that will work and I will fix the book as well to reflect that it was originally published then.
