:P!!!
Could we have a topic that summarizes all the challenges? That is, each entry refers to one challenge, so we have a clean go-to place to ease confusion when we read a book and don't remember which challenge it was meant for, if any, and when we buy a book we know we have to read it by such&such a date to get it into the expiring challenge.
As I've said before I *love* all the challenges, but I get easily confused.
(In case you're wondering, I'd leave old challenges up as our historical archives.)
Do you mean like this:Challenge Directory
Seasonal Challenges
Summer Reading Challenge
1/12/10 - 28/2/11
Quicklink: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4...
Criteria:
1. Celebrate Australia!
2. Lighten the load! TBR
3. Choose a book that’s been made into (or referenced in) a movie, TV series or play.
4. Choose a book with a word related to Summer
5. Oprah Book Lists:
6. New Release Book
7. It’s Schoolies week YA novel
8. Christmas/Winter theme
9. Literature Map
10. Valentine’s Day
Autumn Reading Challenge
etc etc
Monthly Challenges
February 2011 - It's Mardi Gras Time!
etc etc
We could keep at the top of the challenges folder permanently? I think it's a really good idea Cheryl.:)

Ghost Busters!!
Yes, exactly. I especially like the idea of the quicklink - that way each challenge can be summarized as concisely as possible, for easier reference. And keep the topic locked when you're not editing it so confused newbies don't add questions or other clutter. Thank you!

What a fantastic suggestion Cheryl! I write all mine down, and have them by me while I'm on the computer. But without those lists, I'd be lost!! ;)
Carmel, you're asking for something additional to what I asked for? Something like a thread for each of us, in one folder... a thread topic called "Carmel's challenge lists" and another called "Mandy's challenge lists" etc.? If I understand you correctly, that's a great suggestion too!(If I'm misunderstanding, I apologize, and please clarify. :)
Carmel wrote: "I think it would be great to have a folder of your challenge list/s, which you can refer to rather than having to scroll the thread to find your list & to edit it."That would make it easier for the reader in some ways but if every reader created a new thread for their own lists it would mean hundreds of new discussion threads and might end up being just as hard to find them as it is to find your list in the original discussion. I would have to make a new folder for every challenge and it would take up major room on the group page.
What I could do is have a second message in the original thread. And everyone who posted a list, I could put their name in that message and the msg number they posted their list in. e.g. Carmel's list - msg #4.

That's why she's in charge Cheryl...we all just follow...;)

... and you have to recognise and take advantage of a good idea when you see it!
Mandy, re finding our Reading Lists - the links to how other groups do them provide one option. My idea however is maybe Message #2 under the Challenge Directory could list everyone who is participating in the Aussie Authors challenge and the message number of their list, Message #3 could list everyone who is participating in the Autumn challenge and the msg number of their list, and so on. But that might be difficult - I'm not sure.To do it the way you had hoped to do the April one, you could have beaten the rush by immediately after posting msg #1 to post a 'placeholder' in msg #2. I think. Cyborg was so quick to answer a challenge in my group that she grabbed msg #2 while I was cutting&pasting.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. If they don't make sense to you just toss 'em - no worries....
Thanks Cheryl. I was a bit slow off the mark with the latest challenge but I'll definitely do a 'placeholder' msg next time! I like your other idea to add msgs to the Challenge Directory but it would be a fair amount of work and I'm feeling a bit lazy at the moment! I'll have to think about it! LOL
I would think it would be too much work. We have so many challenges.
If people want to set it up for themselves, they could create a thread under personal challenges; then create a link to the challenges they are involved in. I would suggest putting all links in msg 1 and adding and editing msg one as new challenges arise. This group is too large for us to provide what you are asking.

I'm in agreement with it being a bit to much work, considering the size of the group. Plus the comment box can take only so many characters which seems like a lot but if you considering how many books plus the ppl the characters left would be gone in an instant. You can always see who says yes/maybe/no/no response to the challenge though without needing to do all this work :)
I thought the idea was for people too keep track of the books they had included in the challenge? I am going gaga today...

Ooohh!!!! There's a thought!! 'Lady Gaga' ...;D

Now whenever Lady Gaga is mentioned I always think of meat suit O.O;And OT..Maybe I am lost? :o Wouldn't be the first time for that..lol
I can go with using the personal challenges folder for keeping track ofour lists, or where our lists are, in the group challenges. I never thought of that - it's a good idea.
I just want to let everyone know why I haven't been posting a lot for the past week. My Mum's been quite sick and I've moved back home to look after her. With that and work I don't have as much time as before. Hopefully the group will just keep ticking over without as much chatter from me though!:)

And I know I speak for all of us when I say I hope your mum recovers and it's not all too much of a strain on you.
Keep your chin up!

Hi Mandy,This place is like a watch - it ticks over and just needs the occasional 'wind-up' from certain people :-o)
Hope everything works out well for your Mum.
Sorry to hear your mum's so sick Mandy. Hope I can send some good vibes your way and that all goes well.

I've just discovered a terrific new Aussie writer on Kindle. I'm reading Joanna Stephen-Ward's novel Eumeralla which is set in the outback and am desperate to get to the end and discover what happens. The characters are fascinating with strengths and flaws. So far it's a great read and I'd recommend it to the group. On Kindle you can download the first 3 chapters free!
