I'm not sure if it's been suggested already but perhaps one month's challenge could be to read one of the classics eg something by Dickens, Thomas Hardy, Mark Twain, Homer, Bronte, Austen, etc. Or given the popularity of Jane Austen perhaps one month could be to read something by her?
That's a great idea Maggie! I've just found out that there is a Jane Austen Festival of Australia in Canberra from 14th - 17th April 2011. How serendipitous! So start thinking about which book you'll choose for the April 'Classic English Literature' Challenge. Could generate some great discussions! Plus what a great chance for Aussie Austen fans if they're able to get to Canberra for the festival. The schedule and entertainments look fabulous!:)Plus aren't Wills and Kate getting married in April? Another good reason to celebrate the UK.
Thanks you all :D
Nice to be here!

I am glad you brought this up, I am a huge classics fan but didn't want to push my own barrow. :)

I finally read Jane Eyre (before the annoying movie/GR promotion, coincidentally) and liked it much more than I suspected I would. I could use a 'push' to try something else.
Is there a way to make our names more distinctive? My name is Laura and there is already Laura, who posts a lot (a moderator?). I don't post a lot - relatively new - but it would be nice to be able to distinguish responses to my very infrequent posts from responses to other Laura's more frequent ones.
You could use your surname initial (Laura W), or a nickname (Laura Booklover) or you could add some hearts to your name. ♥Laura♥
I guess I don't know how to do that. My username is already much different (lauralynnwalsh), but that doesn't show up on the messages I post.
Laura go into edit profile and simply change your "First Name".
Grrrr it was in response to msg 100.

Laura doesn't like to blow her own trumpet. :ƿ

Huh? I didn't make that 'Artiste Extraordinaire' part up though..lol That's whatever the mods put up there.
LauraW wrote: "OK, that worked, but just out of curiosity, why don't they use our usernames?"
Who knows, maybe you could ask in Goodreads feedback.

Huh? I didn't make that 'Artiste ..."
then I would complain that why restrict it to 'artiste' ??? lol
Actually anyone who takes on the task of moderating this unruly group is by default extraordinaire.
hahaha XDDWell, I've chaged it..I finally worked out how after Gail showed me the other day. It's so fitting 'beer me' :D!!
