I'm happy for you, Mckris10.. I predict you'll be obsessed for the next few weeks.

Best Buy is supposed to have a bunch of different ones on display including the Kindle.

So, again, think about yourself and what you will be using it for. I wanted an ereader to just read on, so the Kindle was best for me and the price was right for what it could do.

You cannot convert books using Calibre that have DRM. There are programs that will "strip" off the DRM, but do so is illegal.

I think when I move back home I will buy a Sony, Nook, or something other than the Kindle. I will definitely need the library loan feature they offer because DFW libraries have ridiculous holds, unlike out here in 'ol, dusty, west Texas. I can walk in right now and find just about any new release on the shelf!

I read somewhere that it's no longer illegal to break a DRM but like I said, I wasn't able to convert all my Kindle books just some of them.

There's a way to add the DRM program into Calibre to do it. Calibre won't do it until it's legal, but they have a way to do it through the back door- like an add-on. I don't know how to do it because it's not legal- although I think it's wrong of the publishing companies to dictate how I use a book I paid for. The illegality has something to do with the fact that the code itself (in the book) is copyrighted, too, in an ebook. Like a software program.

If there's a book I really want that's only free on the Kindle, I download it to the desktop app and read it on my laptop. I noticed, though, that most of the books are eventually free somewhere else at some point.

Google is also selling ebooks now. I noticed that one of the books I was looking at was $9.99 at Google and $8.77 at Amazon and B & N. Maybe there's a price was going on. I haven't checked to see if Google has free ebooks, too.

I think that sort of a "standard" discount price for new releases are $9.99 at Amazon and B & N.
Shadowfever: $9.99 (Amazon), $9.10 at Google
The Red Garden: $9.99 (Amazon), $9.00 at Google
I buy so many books that saving even $1 a book is significant over the course of a year. So, I'm going to make sure I compare prices at Google before I buy.

No, it's the wrong file extention. If it doesn't have DRM then you can covert it with Calibre. But that doesn't sound like a public domain books, so there's probably no chance it's not DRM'ed. I ran a search and it's 99 cents at smashwords: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/...
If there's even the slightest chance that it's an indie author, run a search on smashwords. As you can see the price is better and the author gets a much higher royalty on each book sold. Truly a win-win for everyone.

I have had my kindle for over a year now and if you have the wireless on the update will come thru automatically or it will update the next time that you turn the wireless on. If not you can go to the website to download the update. I have actually heard that they have the update on the website already if you want to download it now.

Yes, only once and the lending period is 14 days. I'm pretty sure it's 14 days from when you loan it, not from when it's downloaded. So, make sure the recipient is there and not on a two week vacation.

My ex can be nice when he wants to be. Wouldn't do him any good to be mean tho! :) I help out (meaning I do 99% of the work) with his 2 youngest kids he has custody of. I have his oldest. This way all the brothers get to be together and I know they are all taken care of!

Recipients have 7 days to accept and 14 days after accepting before the book reverts back to the owner.

I think he needs to throw in a Nook, Kobo, and Sony for all you hard work :D

The kids are hard work. Along with them I work a paper route from 2am-7am. 115 miles of riding back roads that have tons of potholes. I have had 2 hours of sleep in the past 28 hours. I'm wore out. Still have to give the kids a bath, finish cutting coupons to get mailed out tomorrow, and I want to read for a couple of hours. Not enough hours in a day!

My heart literally stopped. Glad that's over.

I've used comparison charts too. You'd think that I was going to buy a car or a house. That's how much research I did.
