Overall I am loving my nook and my kid loves her kindle.

Before you buy an ereader, consider how you're going to use it. If you're going to be outside a lot or traveling a lot.
I do most of my reading at home- in my bed even. The backlight is a great feature for me. Also the wi-fi connection my ereader has is super cool. I take my ereader and my cup of coffee outside in the morning and check my email and read the news. It's heaven on earth.

Rachel, I read somewhere that the publisher has to give eBook companies permission for lending. Personally I think it's a tricky subject because if you have the actual (paperback or hardcover) book then there is nothing stopping you from lending them out to your friends. So you would want to have this same feature with your eBooks, right? But then you have to remember that eBooks and eReaders are turning the publishing world upside down with the lower prices and it is, after all, a money making business. So the lend me feature could be potentially hurtful. It's a really interesting topic (or I'm a bit nerdy, whichever you prefer).

@Irene- The eInk was a lot of the reason I went for the Kindle. I can't stand looking at a computer screen for more than an hour or two. My eyes start hurting so bad sometimes I have to lay down and close them for awhile. I tend to read for hours and hours at a time, so the Kindle was best for me. The price and battery life also couldn't be beaten. Granted I don't have a touch screen or color, but for what I wanted an ereader for, just hours and hours of reading, the Kindle was best for me. It truly just depends on what the person is going to use the ereader for.
Mckris10- I know. I really wish it had to library loan feature too. However, if you read my response to Irene you will see why I went with the Kindle. *fingers crossed* Here's to hoping Kindle gets the library loan feature and then to you buying a Kindle. :)

!!!WOW!!!
I love it.
The dictionary feature is mind blowing (English is my second language). Double tap on a word and hey presto! No finger tips smudges or at least a tiny fraction of what I have expected. I think eInk doesn't attract it as LCD screen. Search feature with virtual keyboard is fantastic. Although it has a fast forward pages feature I never use it. Search does it. More than two weeks of battery life.
I am afraid I am in love once again :D

You can only lend a book once and only for 14 days. I think publishers are looking at it the wrong way. When an author gives out a free ebook of the first of their series, which I see a lot when they are releasing another book, if the book is good it makes you more likely to buy their other books. I'm one of those cheap people and I never buy a new copy of an author I've never read before.

Awesome, I just got the PRS 600 and it is amazing. It has the same double tap dictionary, but I'm guessing yours is more updated. The cool thing about Sony is you can trade in your current model for a new one for $75 but I'll keep my PRS 600 for a few months.

Don't! :)
(I mean don't wait)
650 is a lot better.
One thing. Screen! Its touch screen is only a name. In fact it is the same screen as 505, but it has no touch screen layer above, as a result:
1) No glare!
2) the text is lot sharper.
It also has a bit better contrast. The background is like 505, but the text it blacker.
I don't compare 650 with 600, only with 505. 600's screen doesn't come even close to 505 or 650 :)
Back to touch screen. 600 has a true touch screen. 650 something...I would say from Sci-Fi a few months ago. It has a standard eInk screen. Along the frame it has infra red sensors. Basically, if you are extremely careful, you don't have to touch the screen for it to respond. I tried. It is not practical, just out of curiosity.

A friend and I tested out the Kindle's lend feature--the book I borrowed from her is available on my Kindle for 14 days.

I think as long as you have the respective apps from Kindle and Nook for the iPad, it should work.

Marcia, did you have the Sony PRS 600? If so what's the difference between it and the PRS 650?

The most important improvement is the screen.
The screen's quality is as good or maybe 5-10% better than PRS-505. 600 has a true touch screen above the eInk screen, making text fuzzy and contributing to intolerable glare.
650 doesn't have physical touch screen. It has infra red sensors along the frame that sense your fingers/stylist when you approach the screen. So, if being pedantic, you don't have to actually touch the scree, just get very close to it. I have managed to do it a few times :)
Thus you have the very best of 505's screen + touch screen.
Another positive addition is that 650 has a fully justified epub support. 505, 700 and 600 have only left hand side justified leaving ragged edges on the right hand side in epub.
Yet another good thing is that now you can fully shutdown the reader if you don't plan on using it for a long period of time (for example from 23.00 till 09.00)(this part you could do in all previous models (except 500) too but...) when you start it up it doesn't require extra power like all previous models. Thus you can run on one charge instead of only 2 weeks, maybe for a month? In previous models completely shutting down the reader would in fact deplete battery (unless you were not going to use for weeks) because starting up precess was a power hog. I never shut down my 505. However, I always shutdown 650 when I know I am not going to read for the next 7+ hours.
There are might be other new features that I am not aware of because I didn't buy 600, only played with it a couple of time in the local Waterstones.

Happy Birthday!!

Happy birthday, Mckris10! I really hope that you get your Kindle, it seems like a great birthday gift.

Ebooks are less of a strain on my shrinking pocketbook. I like the feel of paper books, but for ease of use, price and storage (esp for travel), I like Ebooks.

@Elizabeth: I agree with you, you can't beat the price of those ebooks.

Thanks everyone for listening to me ramble on in my excitement the last couple of days!!

@Mckris10 I hope you get your Kindle!! and happy belated b-day!!

@Rachel - I will have to go look and see which skin you chose, they had some very pretty ones. I was looking for one with music notes or something like that on it since that has to do with my job, but I couldn't really find any. Oh well, I will keep looking and I am sure I will find something that I like.
@Lacey - I love the selection of free books that Amazon has, and that was one of the reasons that I decided to go with the Kindle. I was looking online and found (just by looking at the top 100) about 20 books that I wanted to read. I think in the long run an ereader will end up saving us money. I'm glad you like your Kindle!

Happy Birthday, and enjoy your e-reader! Mine goes with me everywhere.
