Mary (med401) | 234 comments I like Christie. It's been a long time since I've read her since I ran out of books but I liked her, in spite of some of the dated ideas.

Right now I'm reading Sizzling Sixteen.

Boneshaker is actually pretty good as far as steampunk goes.
If you are looking for urban fantasy, Finder by Emma Bull is a good bet as well.

So not reading the BoTM. >_<

What I decide to read is really random and when I start a new book it just happens... it's hard for me to read something specific.

So I'm reading Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane.

.... I really should get away from urban fantasy for a bit.

message 56: by Mary (new)

Mary (med401) | 234 comments I'm also reading Lost in Lexicon: An Adventure in Words and Numbers. It's one I won on first reads so I'm going to read it quick(so I can review) and pass it along to one of my nephews. It's written for his age group. I think he'll like it.

I'm reading The Lies of Locke Lamora - which is an awesome book. It reminds me of The Count of Monte Cristo in a lot of way. Well, I guess mostly just all the plots and shows put on. Lynch has really made an unforgiving world in this series though... wow... some of the stuff done is horrible. >_<

Shadow Tag by Louis Erdrich, not sure what to think of it. It's odd but ok so far. About a family falling apart from some secret that I am not sure what the secret is yet.

Child of Fire (Twenty Palaces, #1) by Harry Connolly

It's interesting so far. For some reason it reminded me of Dresden. It might be that in this first book the main character keeps talking about dying. >_>

I'm eager to finish this one - which is a good thing.

It's a neat urban fantasy with a male protagonist if anyone happens to be looking for that.

message 60: by Jingai (new)

Jingai | 56 comments I'm reading Daywatch at the moment until the
next BOTM is chosen.

message 61: by Mary (new)

Mary (med401) | 234 comments I finally got Night Watch started. I'm a little behind.

Very nice Jingai! I'm eager to see what you think of it since it's told from the Daywatch's perspective.

I got caught up in this Twenty Palaces series so I'm reading the next book in it:

Game of Cages

Game of Cages (Twenty Palaces, #2) by Harry Connolly

And yay for getting the book Mary!

Glodson is a pretty big Discworld fan as well... he's been busy lately, but you'd have a person to talk about that series with.

Although Mistborn is pretty awesome. >_>

Katt_goddess | 269 comments Currently flying through "Lies and the Lying Liars that Tell Them" by Al Franken. It was the first book I could reach through the mess after I finished "Locke Lamora". I expect to tackle this month's BotM tomorrow since it's going to be too loud to watch tv anyway. :P

Read Sandman Slim after the BoTM and really enjoyed it. Now I'm reading World War Z... which is weird since I'm a tad sick of the zombie craze.

message 70: by Dian, Crazy Nooooob Mod! :D (new)

Well currently Im reading a few things, which might be my problem with finishing a book >.<

Im reading Generation Deadwhich started off promising, and could still get good, very typical storyline about prejudices and people trying to date despite others trying to break them apart. Despite that there are a few interesting characters that could actually amount to something. Right now Im barely half way through so I haven't made an opinion on whether I actually like the book or not.
Im also reading First Truth by Dawn Cook, which is Kim Harrison's real name. Im kinda bored with this book at the moment. Which is sad cause I was uberpsyched to read it when I picked it up. Especially since I just finished The Decoy Princess by the same author and I couldn't get enough of it.
I've also started Cast in Shadow which will probably be the best out of the three, but im only two chapters or so in.
I've also been slowly reading Grimm's Fairy Tales, which is just a fun read.

message 71: by Mary (new)

Mary (med401) | 234 comments Right now I'm reading the latest Kenzie and Gennaro book, Moonlight Mile. It's pretty good. It's the sequel to Gone, Baby, Gone, even though there's a book inbetween..

message 72: by TheThirdLie, Houdini Mod (new)

TheThirdLie | 704 comments Mod
I haven't mastered being able to read more than one book at a time. I just get lost in one and that's enough. >.<

I was reading World War Z, but... it started out with a lot of short tellings of people encountering zombies. It wasn't bad, they were actually creative and evoked a bit of emotion, but I got sick of reading them. I wanted more than lots of tiny little stories.

So I moved onto The Road to Bedlam by Mike Shevdon. It's a sequel to a book I read late last year. It's going slowly so far, but that's how he writes.. oye.

message 73: by Dian, Crazy Nooooob Mod! :D (new)

Dian | 440 comments Mod
I can usually read two or so at a time that way I can read based on my mood. It also usually helps me when I'm stuck on a book, I put it down and read another or start another then a day or so later I can pick up the first book and enjoy it again. But at this point these two books are like antithesis of enjoyable to me. Which is a discredit to them cause they aren't bad, I'm just having mental block issues with them.

message 74: by TheThirdLie, Houdini Mod (new)

TheThirdLie | 704 comments Mod
See I should do that when I'm in a slum with a book so that it's not weeks before I finish a book, but I never do. Don't know why. I can watch multiple shows, read multiple comics, and other things but books are just different for some reason.

message 75: by Dian, Crazy Nooooob Mod! :D (new)

Dian | 440 comments Mod
Sometimes I can't either if the writing styles are completely different I can't switch mental gears. But I also don't usually try reading more than one book a day unless I am mind numbingly bored with the book im reading.

message 76: by TheThirdLie, Houdini Mod (new)

TheThirdLie | 704 comments Mod
Ah, I usually take a few days for each book. Try as I might I can't get myself to read during the day very much. Most of my reading is done a couple hours before bed every night.

message 77: by Dian, Crazy Nooooob Mod! :D (new)

Dian | 440 comments Mod
yeah i usually read most before bedtime. usually between 10-1am i read the most. I miss being able to read whenever I wanted to. I use to read when i first woke up on my days off, or spend all afternoon at a bookstore reading manga. But now that I live with my family and a very active 13 month old, i really cant do that as much as i use to.

I am also currently debating on focusing my attention on reading either First Truth or Do androids dream of electric sheep. Im only a couple of chapters into our BoTM and kinda disappointed that the story hasn't just grabbed me like i thought it would. It will probably pick up though.

I just finished Wolfsbane by Patricia Briggs. Loved it, mainly cause I loved the characters in the story. And I just picked up Iron Crowned by Richelle Mead yesterday and I'm hoping to start it today. It's the 3rd in a series, so I'm hoping it will be good

Gonna read Blood Bound now. I'm making an effort to catch up in all of the series I've started before I read new series.

message 82: by Dian, Crazy Nooooob Mod! :D (new)

Dian | 440 comments Mod
Yay I loved that one. I actually read that one before the first one Moon Called. The third one is hands down best in the series in my opinion. I just finished River Marked which is the 6th book and probably the best since the third one. Of course you know what a huge fan I am of Patricia Briggs and especially the Mercy Thompson series so I know I am a bit bias when it come to talkin about them. At least I admit my failings :)

I really need to start finishing up series I've started before I start any more new ones. I'm really getting behind in some of them while others its been so long since I've read them that I've kinda lost my love of them. Which just shows you how my mind works >.<

Will be starting the "Vows and Honor" trilogy after that.

I'm reading Imperium by Nicholas Olivo. It's pretty good for an urban fantasy novel. It's hard to find new series that have something unique, but this one has definitely pulled it off already.

Well currently I'm reading the two BotM. But I just finished Heartless which I loooved. And I've been reading the Percy Jackson and the Olympians stories. I'm going to start the 3rd one once I finish at least one of the BotM. They are pretty good, way too much like the plot lines from harry potter. But I enjoy the whole Greek parthanon angle. I'm hoping the get a bit more original as the books evolve

message 87: by Mary (last edited Jul 19, 2011 09:29PM) (new)

Mary (med401) | 234 comments I started one BOTM and plan to start Watership Down soon. I also picked The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo back up but I don't know. It just drags so much. I may not finish it. Or I may skim and skip my way though it to get to the end. I do not understand why this book is so popular. I liked the movies, that may be because of the extensive cutting of boring bullshit the movies accomplished. I usually like the book better than a movie. That's why I'm so disappointed in this book.

Edit: I forgot. I started the audiobook of Game of Thrones too. I can listen to it while I mess about on the comp. Plus it was the only copy I could get now without buying it. So I'll make do.

message 88: by Katt_goddess (new)

Katt_goddess | 269 comments Currently actively reading "Watership Down" while continuing to poke at "Dark Rivers of the Heart" because I'm stubborn and determined to finish it. :P

I put the Valdemar series on hold briefly but will likely go diving back into them again.

Without spoiling anyone [who hasn't been spoiled from just reading the summary of it], is the Dresden Files going down the tubes with this one?
I am still waiting for more of them to go to omnibus form via SFBC so I'm distinctly out of the loop on the series at the moment.

I am currently not reading anything....well unless you count me picking my way through Naked City: Tales of Urban Fantasy which is a collection of short stories. I picked it up(actually i downloaded it to my kindle) cause it had a Patrica Briggs story in it and we all know i love her work. Plus I usually enjoy these types of books because it introduces me to new authors that I might not have picked up on yet.....and let me just say that all the authors in here outside of Briggs and Butcher there is a reason why i've never read any of these ppl. Its utter boring drivel for the most part. The one story that I thought had promise fell utterly flat. I still enjoyed reading a Harry Dresden mini, and I enjoyed Briggs's new short story, however im starting to wish I hadn't bought this since it seems to be a waste of good gift card money.

Edit: The story by Ellen Kushner was cute.
