Hello there! I've finally broke down and signed up for goodreads - specifically to indulge in my love of HP! I lurk all over the romance community, but very few blogs talk about HP - especially vintage HP. (I've been reading Harlequin since I was a teenager in the 1970s)

Favorite authors: Mary Burchell, Sara Craven, Lynne Graham, Michelle Reid, Lucy Monroe, Sarah Morgan, and many more. If it's a white book with a circle, I'll read it!

Favorite tropes: second chance, revenge, amnesia, marrying the mistress, secret babies, marriage of convenience.

I love over-the-top plots, alpha males, angst and strong emotions.

I dislike sex as the answer to all problems. I usually skim sex scenes - especially in the newer books which seem to feature a lot more sex scenes. However, I don't mind the sex scenes as long the author doesn't bore me. Too much inner monologue is a turn off. Sweet reasonableness is important in real life, but dead boring in an HP. Give me bad behavior and a heart-felt grovel and I'm a happy reader.

I hope in time to set up my own bookshelves. And maybe do a few reviews. In the meantime, I hope to explore some of your bookshelves.

I succumbed to the lure of romances including Harlequin about a year ago while on a cruise. It started with Julia Quinn and Lisa Kleypas, not Harlequin authors bet excellent writers, and segued back to Harlequins.

Oh, Harlequins and a cruise sound like the perfect combo! My idea of heaven. I learned about Lisa Kleypas and Julia Quinn about two years ago. Until then most of my historical reading was Mary Balogh and I had never really branched out. I'm still not a big historical reader. I only read what is highly recommended.

I love the drama of HP books. It's an escape for me. I want to try to do more HP binges towards the end of this year. I haven't be able to read HPs as much with everything going on.

Hi, all! I’m new here, too, and I found you because a couple of people liked a review I wrote of an old Flora Kidd book, and I was soooo happy! I haven’t read a Hqn Presents in forever, but when I do, I go back to the 70s and early 80s ones I devoured as a teenager.

I blame Hqn for my love for May-December and enemies to lovers themes.

Also, I need help finding two particular ones, BUT I THINK one is one of those old Silhouettes with the purple border. I think I saw one talked about here, but I can’t find it again.

Do you all do that here?

Hi Moriah! I'm new here, too, but I think it's okay since Harlequin bought out Silhouette and now we lump all those vintage stories together. I didn't read Silhouette back in the day as much as Harlequin, so I might not be much help, but people here are very knowledgeable!

Hello, everyone! I just wanted to thank each and every single Harlequin author for their work and commitment towards their work, which is now one of my biggest passions.

It wasn't until I turned 23 that I discovered that reading was way more than just an "enjoyable" activity. We can all agree that I'm a "newbie" of sorts. Kind of. I'm 30 ;)

I just felt the necessity of expressing my gratitude, to all of you, for being so brave and generous. I can't find the words to express how I really feel when I read your books: I just know that it's something beyond special... whenever I read your work I feel as if I weren't here, it's as if I could be that sassy woman who is able to do anything (I can do it, we all can... but still! We all need that extra something-something from time to time). I wanted you to know that many of us, readers, need your work to avoid reality for just a moment, to picture ourselves in the skin of someone else until we get home or until our family come back from their activities.

Keep it going! Give us our medicine... give us the opportunity of travelling with our minds.

Human nature is dynamic and ever-evolving! Every twist and turn in the plot of our lives brings a new dimension to our personalities. I love writing stories about the various aspects of human relationships with strong multi-dimensional characters at the helm who deal with life’s struggles with guts and determination. The underdog is always my favourite character in every story!

My stories have love, loyalty and trust and all the core values that people across generations and cultures hold in high esteem. I write about passion and intrigue intertwined with every shade in the spectrum of human emotions to make the plot interesting.

A Perfect Mismatch is my debut book for Mills & Boon. The plot is woven around Zara and Armaan who have strong volatile, angst-ridden personalities and a deep-rooted aversion for everything connected with commitment in a relationship. As the story progresses, they find themselves in a short-term marriage against their wishes. The situations that arise out of their constant battles are laced with black humour. They discover that they are inexorably attracted to each other with a searing passion which transforms ultimately into abiding love that burns away all the deeply buried angst and ego.

Although it is a simple story of two deeply unhappy people finding love, it is also about trust and loyalty and the characters’ own sense of identity. Armaan’s buried rage against his own father’s infidelity, and Zara’s illegitimacy and her ultimate discovery of self as an independent entity forms the crux of the story.



A Silver Dawn (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEOy8...) is my second and most recent book. Set in Goa, it is the story of Leon and Clary and their journey of love and fight for survival. While the enigmatic Leon, a hotelier, who was an orphan once, has reached a level of prosperity through sheer hard work, the beautiful and talented Clary has lost all her fortune in tragic circumstances and is now struggling to find a foothold in the world as a choreographer. Her broken faith in the institution of marriage makes her suspicious of all men.

Igor Chekanov, a criminal who operates in the shadows of the crime-infested dark alleys of Goa brings the element of danger and intrigue to the story when his constant stalking leads Clary to Leon’s door. Leon is the ultimate man who stands by her, protecting her dignity, providing the rock-solid support she needs.

Will Leon’s unwavering love and compassion for Clary win her over, and will Clary overcome her fears as she struggles to deal with her handicap and the danger lurking around the corner?

The climax of the story depicts a deadly game set in motion by Chekanov in which Clary and Leon are caught unawares…The only way out is through courage and faith.

I love the Presents out of the series, but I read just about everything now. My favorite authors are Sharon Sala, Nora Roberts, and many more. Romances are my favorite genre along with autobiographies, and mystery. I would love to discuss just about anything. I am in my fifties but young at heart. Hi! I can't remember when I read my first HP, but it definitely made a lasting impression!

I prefer titles from the 80s and 90s with all the unPC (word?) drama.

I have an extensive collection of harlequin romance books that I am constantly adding to and have now started to give away on my website http://readerspalace.com (where you can earn points for reviews and other activities to get free books and other rewards).

Reading Romance books is my favorite hobby and there is nothing I find more relaxing than grabbing an old favorite and curling up for a good trip into HP Land!

Though I am trying to make more time to add all my books to my shelves, reading will always come first!

Hi, I am happy to see my love of HP is not just me. Does anyone else love plots that are unrealistic, and unlikely? For example, the heroine is 22, but has a job that someone her age would not usually have? Threatened by people who would not find her a threat?

I guess that is called 'over-the-top' those books are the most fun.

Hello everyone! I've been reading Harlequin since grade 7 and have recently been focusing my reading time on HP, HT and HB. Old author favs are Emma Darcy, Susan Napier and Emma Goldrick and new favs are Dani Collins and Sharon Kendrick. My mom cleaned out her bookshelves about 2 years ago and I asked her to save the Regency's (cause old ones are hard to find) and now I'm wishing I had asked for all her romances, since there were many good 80's and 90's H book in her collection. Though I love the drama, I really appreciate books that have a nice dose of humour in the writing.

I am not a new member of the group, I have just gotten around to introducing myself. I always read Presents when I am especially in the mood for them, over the years. Lately, I can't get enough of them. I am especially lucky that I have so many I haven't read. About 500-1000, of Silhouette Special Edition, Harlequin Presents making up most of that.With an occasional Desire or Romance among the mix.
We got them by having subscriptions to the services. My mom read them as they arrived, I let them pile up til now. We subscribed for years, literally 4-6 books per month for years!
My mom died in 2012. I have all the books at my house now. It is wonderful that she made little heart symbols and comments like very good on the inside cover.
oh my Aunt a few times shipped me boxes full of Presents from a used bookstore in Sioux City Iowa. So I am well-stocked, and am ffulfilling my addiction to Presents! Tell me your reasons for liking them.

Welcome! It's a great group with incredibly varying POV's re: HP's. I'm an anti-angster personally, but some of my favorite reviewers love it.

Hello all! I've been a romance reader for about 10 years, but this past year I have really found a love for the HPs, especially the vintage ones.

Here's a few of my favorites so far:


I'm obsessed with using the shelves in GR to categorize all my yearly reads. It also helps me keep track of my vast book collection. I have e-books too, but prefer used copies; you never know what you might find at a thrift or used book store. My book habit drives my hubby nuts, as he's not reader by nature, but he at least politely pretends to listen to me talk about a story every now and then. It's always nice to see other readers out there with shared interests. I look forward to being in this group.
