Beverly Lewis does it again!! I have just finished reading The Fiddler and loved it!! I gave it 5-plus stars. As usual, I am eagerly awaiting the release of the next book in this series: The Bridesmaid, scheduled for release on September 11, 2012.
I'm reading Something Blue by Something Blue.
I love reading series, but am sad to see them come to an end. You get to know the characters so well and have spent time with them, and then they're gone.

I have just finished reading The Half-Stitched Amish Quilting Club by Wanda E. Brunstetter. I loved it!! It is a delightful story of Emma Yoder's first quilting class and the interesting and diverse people who enrolled in it--a most unlikely group who, in the end, gained far more from the class than just learning the basics of quilting. I really enjoyed this story.

I'll read this next!
Right now I'm reading A Heart Divided by Kathleen Morgan and listening to An Unlikely Suitor by Nancy Moser.

I am listening to A Heart Divided by Kathleen Morgan and I am reading The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks for my neighborhood book club.

Diane U wrote: "It was. Group read for Christian Fiction Devourers group too!"Ah, okay, that makes slightly more sense - I'm also reading it for the CFD group read. How're you finding it? I'm hoping to finish it tonight.
Just finished book one ("Hidden")in the "Sisters of the Heart" series by Shelley Shepard Gray - really enjoyed it! Next up, "Wanted" which is book 2 in the series.

Barbara,
Have you read the third one?
Promised To Another
Finished "Wanted" by Shelley Shepard Gray (book 2 in series) & starting book 3, "Forgiven." I enjoy reading books by different authors to compare their writing styles. There are so many out there that write Amish fiction & so far I've mostly liked the ones I've read.

I have -- it might have been my favorite of the three.

I have just finished reading Plain Secrets: An Outsider among the Amish by Joe Mackall. This book is non-fiction, written by a professor of English and journalism at Ashland University in Ohio.It is a very interesting book that tells about Mackall's friendship with the Shetler family that belongs to the Swartzentruber Amish community in Ashland County, Ohio. As you undoubtedly know, the Swartzentruber Amish are among the most conservative of the Amish communities.
The book focuses on Jonas Shetler, the Shetler's oldest son, and his struggles to escape from the Amish world and join the English world. It takes him nearly two years of extreme difficulties to finally accomplish this, but he perseveres and eventually succeeds.
I really enjoyed this book. It is both interesting and disturbing in places, but is excellent reading. I highly recommend to everyone, especially anyone who is interested in learning more about the Swartzentruber Amish culture.
I just finished Missing by Shelley Shepard Gray and really enjoyed it. I've read a few of her books in the past but think this is probably one of her best. A good blend of character development and mystery, not too much or too little of either.I'm planning to start Skip Rock Shallows by Jan Watson next.
Barbara Ann wrote: "I am presently reading The Struggle by Wanda E. Brunstetter."Oooh, I loved that one! I think it wrapped up the series nicely! Although I do want to slap some sense into Hannah! She was starting to annoy me!

Her & Timothy -- if they'd just talk to each other instead of just thinking.

I finished The Struggle and now reading Brush of Angel's Wings, the second book in the Heaven on Earth series by Ruth Reid.

I agree! Plus she just needs to get over the fact that they are now living in Kentucky and stop throwing it in his face. Stop holding grudges and move on!!!
Jane wrote: "Currently reading The half-Stitched Amish Quilting Club. It is a good read. Funny! Good ideas!."I loved this book so much. My mom didn't like it because she doesn't like the different stories at the same time.
I've finished Skip Rock Shallows by Jan Watson and now I'm on to A Bride Most Begrudging by Deeanne Gist. I seem to have been unintentionally reading a lot of historical novels this month, so I'll need to get on to some Amish fiction after this. I'm missing it!
It's not Amish fiction, but I'm reading "Fame" by Karen Kingsbury. Up next is going to be "The Road to Grace" by Richard Paul Evans. I've been waiting for over a year to read this book. Got it in the mail the other day, but I'm trying to finish up "Fame" first.

My mom just finished reading this yesterday and she loved it after all! Yesterday we lost power due to a try falling down the street from us. I called and told her, she said you'll be fine.. Look at Emma Yoder! I cracked up! That's what I call relating to the characters!

I really liked that series. Shelley dealt with some issues that I haven't read about in Amish fiction before.

I agree that it was a great series. Just finished reading The Survivor and it seemed to be a good ending to the series. Was great to see Graham have his story.
I've just finished A Bride Most Begrudging by Deeanne Gist and I've just started A Promise for Miriam by Vannetta Chapman. I'm also listening to A Rural Affair by Catherine Alliott, which is quite funny in places but the fact that everyone is either divorced or cheating on each other is kind of depressing me, especially since I'm getting married in 2 weeks...
If it's OK to mention books that aren't Amish, I just finished a couple of Christian fiction books that I enjoyed very much, Harriet Beamer Takes the Bus by Joyce Magnin and Wonderland Creek by Lynn Austin. I especially loved Wonderland, which is also historical fiction, because it takes place in my home state of Kentucky and I could really relate to it. I also read the Missing by Eason and will now read the other Missing, which I'm really looking forward to because it features the Amish of Kentucky.
Margarette wrote: "If it's OK to mention books that aren't Amish, I just finished a couple of Christian fiction books that I enjoyed very much, Harriet Beamer Takes the Bus by Joyce Magnin and Wonderland Creek by Lyn..."Talking about non-Amish books is totally okay! Two of the ones I mentioned aren't Amish :)
I'm nearly finished A Promise for Miriam by Vannetta Chapman and I'm loving it! Sometimes I feel like, with all the Amish novels I read, I might get bored of this genre, but Vannetta's new novel is very refreshing. I especially love the character of little Grace. Definitely get reading this book if you have a copy of it!

You're a person after my own heart. I also start several books at once, then settle into the first one to grab me. If none grabs me right away, I'll start another and then probably go back to other unfinished books at some point, as it fits my mood. Before I had my Kindle, I'd have a book or two in every room. I never feel guilty about abandoning a book for awhile.
