I just finished a Walter Mosley book, and I wondered if there were other black crime/detective writers, so this was serendipitous.

Not Holmes. Doyle was just one of many authors that Strand published, among those was Queen Victoria and Winston Churchill. I think that is kind of cool. Strand is now back in production. http://www.strandmag.com/
