I know MD really seems like a snoozer - not the drama and intrigue of Atlas Shrugged for sure - but it's soooooo funny at times.

Ok so I am thinking we can start Moby Dick and GWTW at the same time if people aren't thinking they want to read both. Please let me know, I have Moby Dick sitting right next to me and it sure is a chunky.
Meg wrote: "OK We are definitely doing Moby Dick here. You are not allowed to read it without me. I made an executive decision!!!!!!"LOL! Love it Meg!
Marialyce, I just bought Moonstone & Brothers K, we could do a buddy read on either or both if you want!
Oh please I do hope some of you will consider using the buddy read forums for some that didn't make the chunky vote.
I have the both of them too, Laura. Would love to buddy read Moonstone and then Brothers K. Not sure if I could do the both at once though. (since I am reading Light in August for my library book club, not to mention AS!))When do you want to start? I can start anytime you want, even tonight ( I lead such a boring life!)
..and then there is GWTW and Madame Bovary and perhaps Moby Dick. Such culture!
I'm doing Far from the Madding Crowd with The Victorians here on GR Marialyce, and it starts tomorrow - so I need to read it first, but after that we could do Moonstone! So excited, I love Collins. Here's the link to their discussion, there are some great links here. The guy leading the discussion is mad good!

Just let me know when you are ready. Thanks for the link too! I have never read that book. Are you a fan?
My idea was that we could do GWTW and Moby, then do Moonstone and Fall of the Giants. However, if you ladies would rather go the buddy read with Moonstone I don't mind. Maybe the 7 that voted for that would like to switch it over to Buddy Reads? This is so exciting, I don't know what to read first.
Whatever works! I am set for GWTW as I got my copy today and Fall of Giants is on order at B and N. I think maybe we could set up the threads and see who wants to join in. (if that sounds ok with you!) It's exciting. We are like little kids wondering which present to open first at Christmas
I know and I can't decide which toy to play with first. I don't even want to sleep so I can read more.
If I lead GWTW & someone else leads MD, they could both start the 1st/2nd week of October, I guess in the chubky reads section and the others in the buddy reads section...? Is that what we're trying to figure out or did I get lost in the shuffle of comments again, LOL!
Marialyce wrote: "Just let me know when you are ready. Thanks for the link too! I have never read that book. Are you a fan?"I've never read it, it'll be my first Hardy, and my first read with the Victorians. I love Brit Lit, so I'm really excited to read something with them.
I can lead MD whenever we do it. Might be tough to read GWTW and MD at the same time...that's my only concern. But if each take a month we could butt one up right after the other.
That would be fine w/me Emily. GWTW in Oct followed by MD in...? I could start GWTW Oct 1st in that case.
I may have missed something, and I am sorry if I did, but have you decided on a time to read Fall Of Giants?
OK so why don't we do this. Jo will lead GWTW starting October 1st and Emily will lead MD starting October 8. This way people will have a full week to get into GWTW before the start of MD.Vicki we did not set a date for Fall of Giants yet but I am thinking that will start around the end of November.
Does that sound ok to everyone?
I HIGHLY recommend Jo and Emily look through past Chunky read threads. Meg is a master at it and has set an amazing example. Trust me I tried once and it is possibly my biggest COL fail ever. It's different than the regular reads in how they are led. Not that you have to do everything like Meg has but she has taken chunky reads to another level with how she does them and I'm sure why they are so popular.

You've made them fun and easy to get through.
Thanks Meg. The end of November sounds good. I wanted to be able to purchase the book and be ready for it.
Thank you Rachelle!I thought if we waited a bit we could all have the copy of the book by the end of November. Vicki if you look at a place like amazon, preorders have good discounts.
I completely agree. Meg, you are a fabulous person to encourage and to ask great questions. If it weren't for you, I don't think I'd have read Atlas. You do a fabulous job. There's an English prof lurking in there somewhere!
I forget to tell you all. If you are planning on reading Moby Dick and you want to do it on your kindle it is only $0.99. That is a lot of words at a bargain!

I placed an order on Amazon today!
Emily wrote: "Uh oh, what have I gotten myself into? ;)"LOL! I almost thought the same thing but more with respect to leading a chunky read as good as Meg as opposed to anything else!
Hey! I missed this poll but I will be joining the GWTW chunky read! I read it in HS (on my own) and re bought the copy about a year ago to re-read. This is gonna be great!! And it just so happens that my close friend is coming to visit me in ATL the weekend of Oct 1 and we are gonna go to the GWTW/Margaret Mitchell Museum! Perfect!
Can't wait for GWTW. This is one of my favorite books of all time and it has been incredibly too long since I've read it!
