Dayna (smizler) I remember this tale from my childhood and have had no success in anyone else remembering it. The funny thing is that this small story has stuck with me. I cannot remember if it was stand alone or a part of a collection bedtime fairy tales.

The premise is that a man (perhaps a prince?) is to choose a bride. There are 3-4 women in contention for the title of wife. It comes down to the ladies each being given a ball of cheese covered in wax (imagining a Gouda or Edam). Each lady is observed in the prep and eating of the cheese. The one woman leaves too much cheese on the rind. The woman who gets selected is very precise in the removal of her rind...she leaves just a bit of cheese but not too much.

Sound familiar to anyone out there?

Thanks for any help!

Dayna (smizler) Joann - You are the best!!! This is it. I have searched for this forever!! I checked out the link and it says there was a version by the Grimm's Brothers. I must have read it in one of my fairytale collections. This site is wonderful. I pride myself on being a pretty good googler...but this one stumped me. Never thought to use the term "bride tests". Thank you - you made my day :)
