Mary JL (maryjl) | 250 comments I agree and I'll be second. A nice room would be a quiet relaxing spot for us all. Don't we all need a happy place every now and them.

And the neat thing is: it does not stifle discussion. Those who wish to discuss other matters can just pop open thier own, seperate thread!

Heidi, you inspired Ra to a great idea! Thank you for that!

message 2: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments This is hard for me. Uh, not because I don't want to say nice things, but because I'm afraid to screw up and/or get silly.

Heidi is one of the most authentic people I know, and fiercely loyal to her friends.

Rachel | 1106 comments Misha, you're brilliant! I love your idea!

message 4: by Mary JL (new)

Mary JL (maryjl) | 250 comments Misha: YOUR idea was great. For someone who likes to read, I am a careless reader--but I thin neither you nor RA really minded.

I think that we can have several different types of threads; the Nice Room would be just one among many.

message 5: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I very much admire Kevin's approach to life, and I honestly consider him somewhat of a role model.

I'm up, but nursing a hangover. Do you have any coffee?

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments HOOOOMG! MISHA! MISHA!!! You just made me tear up and smile at the same time. I think this is the most brilliant thread ever, ever.

EVER!

Misha, I always love your feedback - it's honest and unapologetic. I also always love reading your posts from the perspective of a print journalist. My stepmother (one of the top 3 women who've influenced me in my life) was a career print journalist and I value what she has to say because more times than not and whether I like it or not, she says what I need to hear and not just what I want to hear. You seem to do that, too. :)

This thread title wooed me. I want to feel happy!

Here's my nice thing: Kevin always gets my attempts at humor. :D

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments SALLY!!! :) You're my favorite feisty girl. We typically seem to be on the same pageon most stuff. You make the cutest babies EVER! I get tickled by your grammar policing. You kick my ass in scrabble, and you don't rub it in my face. I love your tastes and sensibility.

Brittomart Wonderful People of TC:

There's something about when you've found a community that just clicks. Sometimes groups are too cliquey, and they won't let anyone in, but y'all have really let me into your circle and didn't dismiss me as "that kid."

Thanks.

message 16: by Mary JL (new)

Mary JL (maryjl) | 250 comments I do not know all of you in TC--but I read TC every other morning--every morning when work permits!

There is always some neat or interesting or funny tread to catch my eye.

Double snaps for RA, Misha, Bun and Sally, the ones I am starting to know best. And snaps for all the other member of this great, great group.

Ps. Clark: regarding the coffee a well equipped NIce Room will have all sorts of nice beverages and snacks as we come in to relax and chat. Tea, coffee, soda, munchies; a bookcase in the corner; lots of comfy seating.....

What other design features shall we add to the NIce Room? I must be forgetting something.....

You're welcome. You don't come across as "that kid", anyway.

smetchie | 4034 comments What are snaps for? What does that mean? Is that some Canadian thing? (are questions OK in the nice room?)

I read "never-ending porn." It's not that kind of nice room.

message 23: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments on TC i have met many new friends who have added much to my life. mostly because i have a sphere of people who are smart, well read, witty and funny as well as being socially aware and diverse. hard to find that in a real world. i want this to come off right so here goes: also it is tough to have friends that you can be around when you want to and not when you don't want to. when i am reading on the porch or working in the yard or just need a break from people you guys don't bug me. i know where you are and you know where i am. when we are ready for interaction we meet here. to me that is a bonus. i also like how i can count on each of you to be you. i think for the most part you are who you are here. i need friends like that. i imagine that if i met you guys at a cafe for coffee we would have a most enjoyable time. thanks for including me in this.

message 24: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Shit. You guys are really GOOD at this! My TC friends are super encouraging and funny and compassionate. :) Love you guys!!!

message 25: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimie476) | 664 comments I wanna play in the nice room! The nice thing I have to say is I love this group. It is nice to have found a group of genuine, intelligent people that act like adults on the web.

message 26: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Adults who sometimes talk about childish things in childish ways, but maintain civility?

That too. :-)

message 28: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) Like Britt, I felt welcomed and liked the mix of topics and conversation. Everyone here seems smart and fun, a combination not always found in our "real worlds." I like that people challenge each other (in a good way) because it makes me think about my positions. I enjoy the banter. I think too many people just go through life half asleep. Also everything Kevin said. This is a really great group of people.

Carol | 1678 comments I love it here, in the nice room and TC in general. I read the posts on digest, so feel too late to jump in mostly. Maybe I can change that. All of you are fun and funny, smart and insightful. It's a wonderful thing you've got going on here!

message 39: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments Gross Gross Gross. Can you imagine getting poop on your toes. ACK!

message 40: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Does there have to be poop in the nice room? It was so nice in here. Maybe everyone can take off their shoes outside, like Canadians.

message 41: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments I take my shoes off outside. I wonder if I'm secretly Canadian. I didn't know Canadians did that? Is that a thing Barb? Like only when entering someone's house or everywhere? We have a large Korean population where I live and for them it's not just homes. It's also my Chiropractor's office.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments A lot of places do that, like Japan, I think. Off with the shoes!

I love walking barefoot. :)

:::donates a bench and a shoe rack in the entryway:::

message 43: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments The nice room reminds me of when I go to a lecture where I'm supposed to be quiet. I get that overwhelming urge to burst into raucous laughter. I have to hold it in though because laughing would be incredibly RUDE! So I turn bright red and cross my legs so you I don't pee and try to laugh silently. But my throat makes that clicking noise, my eyes tear up and I end up spitting loudly. I close my eyes and duck down. My friends shush me and give me dirty looks, which only makes it funnier. What is that?

message 44: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
I'd sit down next to you and make funny faces until you wet your pants, G. That's called "the giggles."

message 45: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
I don't really mind all that much taking off my shoes, especially if the hosts have a nice comfortable clean home with warm caret. But fuck all if I'm taking off my shoes in a nasty dog-owning linoleum coated kitchen where there are beer drinking male roomates who might just pee on the floor next to the toilet sometimes.

message 46: by smetchie (last edited Jul 23, 2010 10:03AM) (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments Sometimes I get the giggles REAL HARD. Once it was at my dear friend's wedding reception during one of the speeches! I was horrified but I just couldn't stop. I ended up ducking into the coat room with my BFF who had given the darn giggles to me. Her husband gave her a really dirty look which made her stop and leave but it made me laugh harder. I fell out of my chair and was convulsing in a ball on the floor of the coat room. I think something might actually be wrong with me.

I don't have that thing where I laugh when people get hurt, though. I've got a friend with that. It's awful.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Hee!

Like how you couldn't start a topic because I'd told you to! Yep. Same concept as the giggles. It's weird because I'm such a rule follower in general!
