Wendy MA re: post 2620

Wendy, for 15.8- Double, Double which editions of Cemetery Dance (Pendergast, #9) by Douglas Preston and The Hippopotamus Pool (An Amelia Peabody Mystery, #8) by Elizabeth Peters did you read? The covers of the editions shown do not look similar.

You will need to do a new post indicating editions for this task

Elizabeth MA re: post 2630

Elizabeth, for task 30.2, the classic book needs to fit the following criteria: "as long as a book is on a list of "children's classics" and was published before 1970, it will be acceptable for part A. "
Falling Up was published in 1996

You will need to do a new post for this task

Ms.soule (mrssoule) I re-posted task 15.9 - see Post 2660.

25.9 - the original publication of Born of Night in 2001 was "edited for content" - they just re-released it in 2009 in full how the author intended and that edition, which is the one I read, is 539 pages. (Massive, but SO GOOD! My husband even read and enjoyed it!)

They looked similar to me. The coloring and the central antiquities theme in the middle.. Come on- this is too much. Send it out to another person to referee. I picked the book specifically because I thought it was very similar. I'm not rereading a third book for this task. The last time they said I couldn't use the same author when
the task did not specify that for the similar covers part of the task, so I specifically changed to this book. The editions are correct, maybe my artistry isn't as finally honed as yours, but I stick by my choice. This is starting not to be fun any more. :-(

Wendy,
I think the moderators are trying to stick with Cynthia's spirit on this one. In the task help (which I know is controversial) many covers that were much more similar than this one (had the same type of image such as close-ups of eyes, had the same color, etc) were rejected by Cynthia early on. It will get better in the next challenge when the people who desgin the task are also the people who are judging it. I also know there is a lot of talk about making sure that when it is unclear that the task itself is edited so that we don't have to rely on the help thread for clarification. Right now, though, they need to be consistent in order to be fair.

message 363: by scherzo♫ (new)

scherzo♫ (pjreads) Thanks, Elizabeth ...

... but, "It will get better in the next challenge when the people who desgin the task are also the people who are judging it." is not the plan.

The plan for the Fall Challenge is to question and edit the tasks until 11 SEP then abide by the Task Description for the requirements. Anything different in the Task Help threads will be considered "preferences."

Wendy,

The moderators have talked your question over and re-reviewed the Task Help thread for Task 15.8. This is one of Cynthia's tasks and we have applied her criteria for everyone who has claimed points for this task. As Elizabeth mentioned, Cynthia rejected many books that were more similar than the two you chose.

Sorry, the moderators agree that the covers do not meet Cynthia's criteria.
