Completed Task Posts with Questions / Problems

20.9. Luck Of The Draw - Terri's Task - The Spirit of Independence: Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak and watched The 500 Days of Summer.
Where the Wild Things Are is 48 pp. Books less than 100 pp. are only acceptable for 5 point tasks.
30.2. PJ Read's Task - As Suggested By Shannon South Africa - For The Children: Part A Stuart Little by E.B. White and for Part B The Field Guide by Holly Black (Goodreads author)
Task 30.2 requires "either pass it on, or recommend it to a child (give details when you claim your points)."
You will need to do a new post for these tasks.
Reposts need to include all task requirements: previously posted items plus previously omitted items.

5.6 - main character is a spy - The Spellman Files
I'm not accepting private detectives for this task because not all detective novels include "spying" on people.
You will need to do a new post for this task (or wait for a decision from Cynthia).
Reposts need to include all task requirements: previously posted items plus previously omitted items.

Okay thanks! I did a new post.
PJ and I are trying to double check each other and have found a couple more issues from posts before #1350:
RITA - post 913 - Cynthia requires that each post include either a link to the book or the author as well as the title.
ASHLEY - post 1156 - in your writeup for task 25.5, the name of the book you read for the second part of the task is not included - it just says "by John Jay Osborne, Jr."
Please do new posts for these.
Thanks!

It looks as if you're claiming Chains for both the second part of 30.2, and for 5.9. You can only claim a book for one task.
Please repost for this one.

Sorry my book link wasn't working that day. My copy of the book didn't quote any authors, translators or editors, just the Brothers Grimm. I have reposted with a link to the closest edition I could find.

Unfortunately, you can only claim one big books ticket for a book that's over 500 but under 750 pages. You claimed this one already in post 1156.

15.9 Mummy Said the F-word
Task 15.9 requires "B.Explain if and how the main character (presumably whom the title refers to) does or does not remind you of yourself."
You will need to do a new post for this task.
Reposts need to include all task requirements: previously posted items plus previously omitted items.

I also finished 25.5. I love lots of different genres so I picked two of many I could pick! The first one I picked was young adult. I like reading young adult books so I can help my kids find good books to read as they get older. The book I read was This World We Live In. This book was the third book in a series about a meteor hitting the moon and the effect it has on the Earth. It wasn't my favorite books of the series, but I liked it. It can be an uncomfortable book to read, but I think it's a good reminder about how we should be prepared for emergencies.
I also like romantic, suspense books. For this genre I read A Bid For Love. I gave it three stars. It was good, but a little predictable.
Need an explanation of why your like romantic, suspense genre.
You will need to do a new post for this task.
Reposts need to include all task requirements: previously posted items plus previously omitted items.

For 30.2 I read Half Magic and The Owl Service. Half Magic is probably something I would have enjoyed a lot as a child. The Owl Service was a struggle to get through and ended very strangely. Not a big fan.
Task 30.2A requires "AND either pass it on, or recommend it to a child (give details when you claim your points)."
You will need to do a new post for this task.
Reposts need to include all task requirements: previously posted items plus previously omitted items.

15.2 -- Bastard Out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison AND The Honey Thief By Elizabeth Graver (takes place exclusively in NY)
Cynthia disapproved Bastard Out of Carolina in the TASK HELP thread -- needs to be North or South Carolina.
25.9 -- I chose B. Bikini - Read 2 books totaling at least 850 pages and first published in 1946 (date of first named bikini) or later, and read The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson AND The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon
How many pages were the editions you read?
We found 503 and 226 which does not add up to 850.
You will need to do a new post for these tasks.
Reposts need to include all task requirements: previously posted items plus previously omitted items.

On the same week, because I am a fast reader and it was a short book, I read Mrs. Dalloway's Party by Virginia Woolf for 10.1.
One of the CHALLENGE RULES is that a limited number of books less than 100 pp are okay only for 5 point tasks.
Mrs. Dalloway's Party is only 80 pp.
You will need to do a new post for this task.
Reposts need to include all task requirements: previously posted items plus previously omitted items.

15.7 India AND what you would change about country state city: Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts, 933pp, read 7/8/2010.
First of all, Shantaram is an amazing book - violent, tender, ugly, beautiful, so many contradictions in one book. Caution, don't read this if you have any moral quibbles about criminals and drugs, the protagonist's (and the author's life, if the cover bio means anything) life is a swamp of moral ambiguity. It will make you want to see India.
What I would change about my state - raise of the level of appreciation for education. We actually have fairly good schools, but the people don't value education, and that is ultimately at the root of many of our problems. And we need a new constitution - long story.
I'd also like to claim a long books ticket - 70 more pages and it would be 1000!
Task 15.7 also requires "and what you have done or would do to see it changed."
You will need to do a new post for this task.
Reposts need to include all task requirements: previously posted items plus previously omitted items.

25.5 Share the Summer Love
Genre 1 - Travel/Expat Lit
Paris Tales, Helen Constantine
I love travel literature, in particular travel literature about moving abroad, because it allows me to experience the thrill of living all over the world without the hassle of all the moving!
Genre 2 - Dystopia
Animal Farm, George Orwell
I honestly don't know why I loved dystopian literature so much. I guess it appeals to my morbid side in the way that vampire books appeal to some folks. Also, this type of literature often compels me to think about everyday things in a new way
Task 25.5 also requires "Write a short review for each ..."

I just completed "One Good Dog" by Susan Wilson. I read this book for task: 20.6 - Supporting Goodreads Authors - Nicole CA's Task - List Maker

You will need to do a new post for this task.

5.10 - "If One Cannot Enjoy Reading A Book Over And Over Again, There Is No Use In Reading It At All." - Oscar Wilde
I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone... again. I thought I would reread a book in the series each month so that I'm reading the last book in November, just in time for the movie.
Cynthia requires either a link to the book or that you post both author and title.

10.7 Shanghai Girls by Lisa See (10 points)
Task 10.7 requires a NON-FICTION book.
15.3 The Book of Lost Things By John Connolly (15 points)
Task 15.3 requires "When you post this task include a link to the blog and a review of the book."
You will need to do a new post for these tasks.
Reposts need to include all task requirements: previously posted items plus previously omitted items.

20.10 Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Task 20.10 requires a post in the GROUP BOOKS discussion thread.
You will need to do a new post for this task.
Reposts need to include all task requirements: previously posted items plus previously omitted items.

I am excited to be starting the summer reading challenge! This is my first post. I completed task 15.6 - "Eventually, All Things Merge Into One, And A River Runs Through It."
I read "Strength in What Remains" by Tracy Kidder which takes place in Burundi and Rhwanda.
Task 15.6 is a 2 book task which also requires "AND
C. Since the Congo is the second longest river in Africa - Read a book that is the second longest book written by an author of your choice."
You will need to do a new post for this task.
Reposts need to include all task requirements: previously posted items plus previously omitted items.

30.5 I chose A & C
A. I read The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender. It was a magic realism book about a girl who discovers that she can taste all of the feelings of the person who cooked whenever she eats, which actually turns about to be more of a curse than a blessing. I really enjoyed this and Highly recommend.
C. I also chose to read The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals by Michael Pollan, which I also enjoyed. It definitely opened my eyes to a few things, and I already knew others, because I am defintely concerned about what I eat as well as how it affects the environment. I know that I will try to make smarter choices and eat locally.
Task 30.5 also requires "Include your contribution to the party in your post, and let us know what makes your recipe stand out."
You will need to do a new post for this task.
Reposts need to include all task requirements: previously posted items plus previously omitted items.

Thanks! (deleted that post here & corrected Readerboard)

I just finished 30.2- For the Children. I read Alice in Wonderland for part A and recommended it to my kid brothers before they watched the movie (nothing alike). For part B of the task I read The Lightning Thief. It was interesting but no Harry Potter!
Cynthia requires either a link to the book or that you post both author and title.
You will need to do a new post for this task.
Reposts need to include all task requirements: previously posted items plus previously omitted items.

30.5 - DLM Rose's Task - Virtual Block Party
For part A I read Blueberry Muffin Murder by Joanne Fluke and for Part B I read Glazed Murder by Jessica Beck. I'm bringing my Blueberry Banana Cream Pie to the party! Recipe posted in the recipe thread! Love this task DLM Rose!!
Task 30.5 also requires "and let us know what makes your recipe stand out."
You will need to do a new post for this task.
Reposts need to include all task requirements: previously posted items plus previously omitted items.

25.5 Payment In Blood
The Last Time I Saw You: A Novel
Task 25.5 requires "C. Write a short review for each and an explanation of why your like that genre/type."
25.9 Overfall
The Glass Lake
Which option in task 25.9?
25.10 Assassination Vacation SARA VOWELL
The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter CARSON MCCULLERS
Task 25.10 requires "A. For the first half of the task, read any book you like of at least 100 pages.
AND
B. For the second half of the task read another book (of at least 100 pages) whose author’s first or last name, is the same as the last name of the author of the book you read for the first half of the task."
I counted the following tasks, but it would help if:
-covers were posted for these two
5.7 True to Form
10.5 A Summer Affair: A Novel
-country and language were posted for these two
25.3 A Great Deliverance
The Invention of Curried Sausage
-new tasks were posted separately
Completed tasks, including those previously posted:
You will need to do a new post for tasks 25.5, 25.9 and 25.10.
Reposts need to include all task requirements: previously posted items plus previously omitted items.

25.5-Helen's Task-Share the Summer Love
I hope this works. Someone please tell me if it doesn't.
A. Contemporary Adult Romance- Vision in White by Nora Roberts 3*
B. Fairy Tales and Retellings- Violet Eyes: A Retelling of the "Princess and the Pea" by Debbie Viguie 3*
C. What can I say I am a hopeless romantic!
I thought that Vision in White was a good book. It definitely made me think twice about a guy who can read...I fell in love with the characters of the quartet of girls and the leading male. (Even though I would never get with a guy like him.) This book made me wish that I had friends like these girls and also appreciate my mother.
Violet Eyes was a cute and sweet story. I was a very easy read. (Probably because it is a YA novel.) I had never heard of this fairy tale but it was definitely cute. I wouldn't consider it the best book I have ever read but it was definitely a good book that I might read again.
Task 25.5 also requires "and an explanation of why your like that genre/type."
You will need to do a new post for this task.
Reposts need to include all task requirements: previously posted items plus previously omitted items.

15.1 - Wedding Bells Are Ringing
Sh*t My Dad Says by Justin Halpern (new and blue)
I loved, loved, loved this book. I rarely laugh out loud at a book and this one made me laugh so hard that I had to stop reading several times because my eyes were full of tears
Task 15.1 is a 2 book task. You also need a book for OLD and BORROWED.
25.5 - Helen's Task - Share the Summer Love
(A) Kindred in Death by JD Robb for mystery
I love the JD Robb books and this one was no exception. The interaction between the characters is believable and adds to the books. The mysteries are solid and are interesting. I love that she uses just the right amount of technology from the future that it feels plausible. I would definitely recommend this book (or any in the series).
(B) Amaryllis by Jayne Castle for scifi
I thought this book would be great for me because I love scifi and romance. I was so disappointed in this book. First of all, I really didn't like the main character, I actually found myself rooting against her. And, I didn't think the scifi aspect of it was done well at all. Making compound words like coff-tea and talking about a curtain in space do not a scifi novel make. I would not recommend this book.
Task 25.5 also requires "and an explanation of why your like that genre/type."
You will need to do a new post for these tasks.

15.7 I read Shadow of the Moon by M.M. Kaye. It is set in India during the 1850s. It is one of my all time favorite books and I was thrilled to have a reason to re-read it. At 800 pages, I'd like to claim a big book ticket, please.
The change I would like to see here in Illinois is the way the state is attempting to balance it's budget. There has to be a way to keep schools, libraries and police departments funded.
Task 15.7 also requires "and what you have done or would do to see it changed."
You will need to do a new post for this task.

Thanks so much to all of you who have gone back and edited your posts to indicate your readerboard names!
It's a huge help in trying to work through the posts as I come to them.
(BTW, no need to go back to any posts before about 1550, since I'm working on the 1501-1550 range now)

Thanks, Elizabeth. PJ has really been the driving force on this one but I'm trying to give her as much help as I can to make the job less overwhelming.
I'll tell you, this has given me a whole new appreciation for what Cynthia does - I never really thought about the magnitude of this job!

You need to indicate which task you're claiming points for and either post a link to each book or list the title and author.
If you're not sure whether a book fits a particular task, you can post a question in the help thread for that task or ask for help in the "Fit this Book" thread.
You'll need to repost these books with the necessary information.
Thanks.

You only need two books for this task. Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen won't work for part B, because it's not a novel, so you'll probably want to move that somewhere else.
Also, Cynthia requires that you provide either a link to the book or both the title and the author.
So, please repost for this task, with the two books you want to use and with the link and/or author as well as title, as well as any new tasks you want to claim with the other two books.
Thanks!
