Dustin I am enjoying them a lot, overall... though The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was a bit disappointing and unworthy of all the hype, IMO. Thank you!

message 4852: by Aditya (new)

Aditya I watched the movie(the English version & not the original Swedish one) & liked it but maybe that was because i am a huge fan of David Fincher's work.

message 4853: by Squire (new)

Squire (srboone) | 92 comments I liked the Swedish film better, but was disappointed in the whole affair; it all seemed pretty mundane compared to the complex plot line. It didn't make me want to read the books.

message 4854: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 747 comments Yeah the films left out a lot of the events which were in the books. They weren't too bad for film adaptations, though.

Also, coming from someone whose favorite trilogy is The Millenium Trilogy, I actually found the first book to be fascinating. Everyone has different opinions on books, but especially after the trilogy was over, I realized how important the first book was. They were all compelling and interesting in their own ways.

Aditya The movie's overall atmosphere & plot line interested me enough to check out the books because the book is always better than the movie (specially when it comes to thrillers).

Aaron wrote: "Running Blind (Jack Reacher, #4) by Lee Child"

I don't know if you have read the previous installments of the series,i read the first 2 & must say this has to be one of the worst book series i have ever read in my life.I like summer action movies & not so serious books as much as the next person but these books are so STUPID that it almost becomes an unintentional comedy.

I loved a storm of swords! It is one of the best in the series. I am now reading the last book in the series currently published.......A dance with Dragons: After the feast.

Can't believe the next book isn't published until 2015 and then the final installment not until 2020!

It is no big deal almost all users post King books they are reading presently in this thread. It is good for you that you don't remember the movie as it virtually ruined the book for me.

Costas Ioannou (greek_tornado) | 77 comments I LOVED The Millenium trilogy, the books, the films, everything. Lisbeth is one of my favourite characters of all time.
Be warned though, that the author passed away before finishing the books series, so It's somewhat incomplete.
Aditya wrote: "It is good for you that you don't remember the movie as it virtually ruined the book for me"
I see now that the plot of the film has nothing to do with the book whatsoever. Good thing too, I never really cared for the film. I'm enjoying the book though (I'm at 1/3 right now).

message 4896: by Squire (last edited Apr 24, 2013 01:43AM) (new)

Squire (srboone) | 92 comments I read The book in 1981 and then saw the movie about six months later. I never had a problem with the differences as the movie stands on its own merits. My favorite King book and my favoirte horror (and King) movie. Everybody's got their own opinions of the movie and book.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the book!

message 4897: by Squire (new)

Squire (srboone) | 92 comments Finished Part I of Don Quixote; Since Part I and part II were published 10 years apart, I'll take a break and read some of my GR wins. (I'm also attempting to read DQ as an ebook and while I'm loving the book, I'mhating the ebook experience.)

Vengeance (The Tainted Realm #1) by Ian Irvine is first (of 13) up.

message 4898: by Aditya (new)

Aditya Squire wrote: "I'm hating the ebook experience."

It has been at least a couple of years since i read a paperback or hard cover.Had it not been for e-books i would not have re-discovered the joy of reading so give it some time,it grows on you.

When it comes to movies i avoid the horror genre like a plague as they are usually crap.Maybe that is why The Shining is your favorite horror film as there are not many good movies to chose from because in my humble opinion it was pretty poor. The book though was much better, not my favorite King but still good.

Hi, Costos!
Thank you for your feedback regarding the Millennium trilogy and Slander in particular! She is easily one of my all-time favorite fictional characters, as well, and definitely my favorite heroine!

It saddens me that Larsson never got to finish the series. I am really dreading the final pages of Hornet's Nest.

message 4900: by Costas (new)

Costas Ioannou (greek_tornado) | 77 comments I'd like to hear your opinion about the book in an appropriate thread when you finish it. ;)

Squire wrote: "I'm hating the ebook experience."
Really? E-books are one of the main reasons I started reading again. They are very convenient and they don't tire my eyes any more than ordinary books.

As for the Shining movie, I consider myself a fan of horror films (both psychological and splatter), but somehow I didn't like it. Jack Nicholson was great in it, but the story was uninteresting and the movie was slow for the most part. But that's a matter of taste. Could be that it was over-hyped to me when I saw it.
