Wow, Becky, I am AMAZED! You've already gotten through books I-IV of ASOIAF!?!!

LOL What's so amazing about that? They are great books that I love reading. Plus the 5th book was being released, which was like giving me a goal.

I'd have finished them much quicker if I didn't have other books to read in between them.

Yes, indeed. I am pleased to say it was very good. :)

Next I'm picking up a Bachman book. My first time reading The Long Walk .

So far I am enjoying this series. I wished I picked up these years ago.

Once I am finished with this one, I will hit The Beach.

Well yeah, book V is definitely a huge incentive.. I'm just amazed because I'm a slow reader and it seems like it hasn't been all that long since you first started reading this series..that's all.

message 1361: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) LOL, I see... Well... In terms of ASOIAF-Fan time, it has only been a blink of an eye. I started reading them in mid-April. :)

I had my 12 year old read this right after she read The Hunger Games books. She really liked it. I had forgotten about some of the language, but if she's going to start reading King, it comes with the Territory!

I imagine it would be suitable for younger readers (well, old enough to handle the language, anyway). I only read Hunger Games, just couldn't get into it and so didn't feel the need to read the rest.

Yep... Savoring. ;)

To enjoy or appreciate (something pleasant) completely, esp. by dwelling on it.

I'm reading that too! Or listening to it, actually. I just finished The Shining for the first time. I've been out of the SK loop for a few years and just got back into it when I discovered how many audio books of his are at my library! I forgot how much I used to enjoy reading his stuff. Glad to be back in the King universe.

Joey | 9 comments The Dark Tower Series.
Dark Tower the Wolves of Calla.

I find that with this book I have had to go and increase my readings in order for certain things to make sense. There is allot of references to Salems Lot in this book (fortunately I read it already), but I am finding allot of other references to The Regulators as well as Hearts in Atlantis. I am mid book and went out and bought a copy of The Regulators and I am going to finish it before I resume my reading.

John Richmond | 4 comments Dung Beetle wrote: "I'm reading David Brin's The Postman...at least, I'm trying to. I've been too busy to even pick it up for days. A shame, because it's really good so far."

The Postman is one of the better post (heh) apocalyptic yarns I've come across in a long time. Another good one (especially if you dig zombies) is World War Z by Max Brooks. Incidentally, Max Brooks is Mel Brooks's son. Some of the sense of humor translated over the generations, but WWZ is mostly clean and clever. I'd read it again.

message 1398: by John (new)

John Richmond | 4 comments I'm currently up to my neck in Michael Crichton ("Andromeda Strain", "Terminal Man" and "The Great Train Robbery"). I'm taking a break from M.C. and enjoying "Santa Olivia" by Jacqueline Carey. (Stole it off my wife's nightstand and really digging it so far.)

I too loved the first two and was disappointed in the third. Some parts were confusing and the end seemed very hurried.
