Dustin Hi, Jamie-

Man, with Full Dark, No Stars, you have got a lot in store for YOU! Wow.

Diana (dianat327) | 6 comments I haven't read much in the last few years due to a busy life :) but have recently re-read Lonesome Dove, The Greatest Thing since Sliced Bread and am now reading Slaughterhouse-Five. DD recommended this last one as she loves Vonnegut (sp) and I've never read him. Interesting so far.

Small world. Today I'm just starting in on Lonesome Dove for the first time.

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments Still working on The Bachman Books, finished Rage and The Long Walk so far, then took a break to read Dead Reckoning Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse, #11) by Charlaine Harris real quick. Still have to read the other two, Roadwork and The Running Man, probably start on that later tonight or tomorrow.

I hope you like it. It's one of my all time favorite books! There's a miniseries of it and it's just as good.

Let me know if you want to discuss it! :)

You really should also watch the miniseries that ABC did back in 1997. I saw it randomly when I was first introduction to Stephen King, I still think its better plot wise, but a lot of people hated because most think nothing can stand up to one of all time horror movies, and no one could do what Kubrick did, meaning it will be timeless for generation to come.

I saw Kubrick's film after reading the book and didn't care for it much. The book was so much richer in character development that the movie really didn't stand a chance.

Scott | 401 comments Yesterday, I finished American Gods. Great book. I really love Gaiman's writing.

Now, I'm continuing The Circle Trilogy: The Complete Trilogy in One Epic Edition. I'm onto the second book in the series: Red.

I felt the same way but the movie has grown on me over the years.

message 1110: by Susanna (new)

Susanna (jb_slasher) I think I might catch the miniseries one day. I knew the movie was different from the book but didn't know exactly how until now since this was the first time I got around to reading it. But I did enjoy both in their own rights.

Hi, Scott!

I'm curious...is this the same series written by Ted Dekker..? If so, what are your thoughts on it, so far?

I read this series a while back and they are wonderful! I didn't care for Black so much because they talked way to much about the great romance but I really enjoyed the rest. Another one that fits with this series is Chosen. Thomas is living in his dream world permanetly.

Scott | 401 comments Dustin wrote: "I'm curious...is this the same series written by Ted Dekker..? If so, what are your thoughts on it, so far?"

Yes, this is the series written by Ted Dekker. So far it has been very good. I have only read Black which was the first in the series. It was a little odd at first because you don't exactly know what is happening but it doesn't take long to figure it out. It is a sci-fi book and so far the main character is trying to stop an apocalyptic event.

Dekker is a really good writer. My wife just read BoneMan's Daughters and she really enjoyed it.

I got The Circle Trilogy: The Complete Trilogy in One Epic Edition in ebook form from B&N for about $8 and then I got Green which I believe is both books 0 and 4 of the series as a bargain hardback book from B&N for $6.

The book that begins and ends the series reminds me of another series we've talked about if you know what I mean.

message 1114: by Michael (new)

Michael (fisher_of_men) I put on my iPod this morning to walk the dog and (re)discovered that I had the audio version of Full Dark, No Stars on it which I have neither listened to nor read. So now I'm on to page 40 of the first story "1922." Seems to be a retelling of Poe's "Tell-Tale Heart", but I could be wrong. In any case, I'm enjoying it.

message 1115: by Amanda (new)

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) It has a similar tone but is also its own story. I liked it too :)

I've been curious about this series for awhile now...

★ Jess | 49 comments Just started So Yesterday by Scott Westerfeld. Planning on reading 'The Regulators' next.
Does anyone know if 'The Regulators' & 'Desperation' need to be read in a particular order?

message 1118: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Hi, Jessica!

How are you today? I hope all's well with you.:) As to your question, the answer's no, Desperation and The Regulators don't need to be read in any particular order. Though there are similarities between the two..

message 1119: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (stacieh) reading Dies the Fire right now. It's fun so far :)

According to Wikipedia, it doesn't matter. The novels share characters, but take place in parallel universes.

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments Finished The Bachman Books, and it was great! Better than I was expecting actually, though I don't know why exactly I was feeling like I was not going to be wowed by these stories, b/c SK pretty much always wows me in some way lol. I finished the book with a big smile on my face, and I felt happy. Another great collection :)

message 1124: by Dustin (new)

I'm glad that you were wowed The Bachman Books! 'Tis another great collection, indeed.:)

I didn't realize that Stephen King even wrote this book. I have heard of it and I really want to read it. I also want to read The Running Man. I heard it was kind of like The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner, along those lines.

Oh for sure, there are definitely similarities in that they are dystopian novels with a "deadly games" theme. Both The Long Walk and The Running Man (also awesome) are just such compulsive page-turners, but with a lot of heart too. I just love them :)

Theda Black | 5 comments The Long Walk may be my favorite SK book ever. It's up there at the top, anyway. Somebody up above said these stories have heart - that's why I love this one so much exactly.

message 1130: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 49 comments I LOVE 'The Running Man'. That book is sensational.
Granted, I haven't read 'The Long Walk' yet...

message 1131: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments I couldn't pick a favorite between The Long Walk, Roadwork, and The Running Man, they were all way up there in awesomeness for me. Love the dystopian kind of setting with TLW and TRM, made me want to know more about how and why things came to be so bad.

message 1132: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 561 comments My favorite would be The Long Walk. Just such a great story and ending.

message 1133: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Wouldn't you know!!! My library does not have The Running Man or The Long Walk. Well, I guess they will just have to order them!

message 1134: by Scott (new)

Scott | 401 comments I finished Red yesterday. It ended in a cliffhanger. I'll have to finish the trilogy soon.

Then I started Hearts In Atlantis.

message 1135: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I started The Running Man last night. I have an ebook of it that I was going to read on my nook, but the formatting is terrible, so I'm reading the one in The Bachman Books instead until I can find a better ebook edition.

I'm almost finished Full Dark, No Stars. I'm well into the fourth story "A good Marriage." So far, I've really enjoyed the whole thing. I thought that 'Fair Extension" was particularly funny (in an odd way) and yet also thought provoking (at the end).
