Bondama...just finished AG and LOVED it. GREAT book. And I believe you when you say he has such knowledge. The book had me looking up different mythologies online everyday. The only unanswered question, and apparently this goes for every reader, is WHO is the god in Vegas?

Just finished Florida Roadkill. That was a crazy ride. I can't wait until the next one becomes available from the library. Now onto Duma Key.
I got it on the bargain table quite awhile back for about $4. I figured it was about time I read it.

I just re-read that one not long ago, and loved it.
It's always awesome to find bargains! :)

Billy- sorry to be so long in answering your question, but it really intrigued me, because even after reading AG three times, all I could remember was the bargain for Soma. That is accurate, btw, Gaiman's description of Soma as "distilled worship, prayers, and love - the true food/drink of the gods. I do not have a clue who the Las Vegas god is - you remember, Shadow asks Wednesday twice and can't remember his name, and, of course, no one remembers seeing him... but I haven't a clue as to his identity - You did have me go back and re-read that portion, tho, so thanks!
Gatorman, I'm somewhat confused.. the comment you quoted was about "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman. "The Black Hills, The Terror", and "Drood" were (I'm sure you know) - Dan Simmons.

BTW, I also love American Gods. It got me reading Gaiman.
Gatorman, I knew that you knew what you were talking about, it was just a bit confusing... so glad you read Gaiman -- ever tried his "Anansi Boys?" - it's (sort of) a sequel to American Gods - same wonder Caribbean spider god with a sense of humor, anyway!

Good for you. I'm a slow reader. I only read 50 pages a day. :(

I just decided to start my re-read of
all of about 5 minutes ago :) The only other time I read this book was back when it was first published. So I remember the gist of the story, but I'm looking forward to sinking into it again, and getting reintroduced to the characters and this Buick... :o
Dustin wrote: "That's awesome, Kit!"Hey Dustin, Is the rest of the Dark Tower books the same as Gunslinger? I have a feeling that the other books won't have the same setting as Gunslinger. He has gone from being in what I thought was the west to the modern day. Does the others follow with that?
I am currently reading The Dark Tower series.
I'm up to book 4: Wizard and Glass.

I'm so sorry for the all caps post Becky, please accept my apology(I truly wasn't thinking) and I can assure everyone my intent was not to yell at anyone.(lol)As I said in my post I am nearing the end of Full Dark,No Stars and will then begin the Dark Tower books.I have taken your advice Becky and avoided any posts that go into any detail about the DT story or characters and I do so appreciate that.I am amazed too at how fast some group members read!Total speed readers in our group~hee, hee!I love the exchanges of likes, dislikes and the referrals of books that I have not yet read or sometimes even heard of and I can feel myself really wanting to explore a particular book, based on someones portrayal of the characters in the book or the story itself.
Hi Jaki, I really hate to be a nitpick, but I'm gonna have to ask you not to post in all caps like that... in text communication, it's considered "yelling" and it's usually spammers and trolls who use it. I don't think that's what you were going for... LOL Can you please edit that post to... tone it down a little? Thanks. :)
Reading The Talisman, it's a pretty long book but so far it seems really good. I love the connections to DT and the main character Jack is so good and innocent it's a plesure to read about him. The dark and creepy setting is just my taste, but I can see how some people would think it depressing. I just think it's epic though.
Hi, Tina! I love Travelin' Jack!! Have you met any other interesting characters?Tracy- I think The Gunslinger is actually quite different from the rest of the series. But it only gets better and better with each book! What do you think of it, so far?
I think it will be one of my favorites too:) All the characters are interesting, but I think that his counter part Morgan is the most interesting character so far, apart from Jack. He is evil in such a casual way that is really scary, his talking about murdering people like he is picking dinner. I think they have painted him really good, and it's important to have a good evil counterpart in a fanatsy novel.
Dustin wrote: "That's awesome, Kit!"It is awesome! I'm over halfway through already, can hardly put it down...

I absolutely just adore The Talisman! The first time I read it, I was about the same age as Jack, and I just fell in love with the whole idea of flipping over, and the adventure, and traveling across country... everything about it just grabbed me and sunk into me. I've read it a total of 3 times, but I could go for more :)
I'm reading "Alien Tango" by Gini Koch. I just read "Touched By An Alien" and I liked it enough to go straight to book 2. It's Sci-Fi/Fantasy, well-paced, snappy dialogue and likeable characters. Sometimes the main character, Kitty Katt, is a little TOO much, but she's still pretty cool :-).
Amanda wrote: "I devoured The Talisman in 24 hours. I didn't sleep until i got to the end!"WOW, Amanda! That is amazing! It boggles the mind..
I really liked it, the characters were great as always, and of course the car, man! The only problem was, like Ned and his father, I wanted to know more, see more, get some answers, or at least a bigger picture... but it was definitely awesome (view spoiler). I really wanted to read another SK next, but didn't have any readily available... so I'm going to have to remedy that :)
Hi Kit,I think that From A Buick 8 has to be one of my top 5 King books.I actually read it also when it first came out and was so excited to begin reading it.This was one that I could not stop reading anticipating what was going to happen next.Although most of Kings books have this magic touch for me,this one especially.I even have a poster that came with the book in my closet where it has been since I read the book and to this day there it is still! Can't seem to take it down~~My hubby just loves it (not)since it is on his side of the closet.(lol)Oh well!
I wanted to add becky, you were not nitpicky in any way.I know that this is frowned upon and I promise to not "yell" in future posts.I will save the yelling, when it is warranted,to my hubby when the need arises.: )

I'm on the Dollanger series from V.C. Andrews. Nothing to make the average dysfunctional family feel normal by reading the Flowers in the Attic series, am I right?

It wasn't entirely Aaliyah's fault, after all they did have a bad leading male actor too...

Well, I have finished The Gunslinger and I am ready to start on book II. Gunslinger was a little different for me. You were right about reading the book instead of listening to it on audiobook because if you didn't pay attention they would be off in some other time and place. I think I am going to start the next book after I have read April's Dean Koontz read.

The whole movie was just atrocious. I loved that book, it's probably my favorite from the series because it offers so much history and development for Rice's mythology. Every once in a while I re-watch the movie, hoping it won't be as bad as I remember it, but it disappoints every time, and yet I can't seem to resist.
More on-topic with the thread, I'm a few chapters away from finishing Anna Karenina, and I'm curious, if anyone else has read it, did you find it as anti-climactic as I feel it is? I like it, but as it winds down, it feels like it has lost it's momentum.
Also, on King, how was Under the Dome? I think I want to start it sometime soon, but I haven't heard much about it and I don't like some of his newer works as much as the older.
Tracy- I think The Gunslinger is actually quite different from the rest of the series. But i..."That is wonderful, Tracy! So what did you think about the overall story? Isn't Roland just a fantastic character?
Happy reading!
I do like Roland. He has a quirky sense of humor and I like that in a character, actually I like it in a writer. So, is Roland the main character in the other DT books as well?
Tracy wrote: "I do like Roland. He has a quirky sense of humor and I like that in a character, actually I like it in a writer. So, is Roland the main character in the other DT books as well?"Of course, but be sure you read them in order....read them mixed up and you'll mix up too :P
Yes, definitely read them in order, Tracy. And like Jennifer said, Roland Deschain IS the primary character, but-as you progress further into the series-the supporting characters become almost as important, IMO. Oh, you mentioned liking a writer with a great sense of humor...Stephen has a great one, doesn't he?
Finished The House on the Strand and it was really good, I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for more books by duMaurier in my travels. I'm pretty sure I'm going to start reading
when I get off of the computer.

I told a lady at my library that I liked Dean Koontz mainly because of his sense of humor and she said I should really like Stephen King. I have only watched his movies and not ever really read his books so I couldn't see how her statement could have been true because his humor does not really come out in the shows. I was really surprised.

Thanks Jennifer, I have been told that. I think I will really enjoy this series.
I finished Duma Key yesterday. I thought this was an excellent book from King. Then I started reading Storm Front.
