ABANDONED. The book where the man falls in love with a gorilla??

HI Guys,
I remember reading a book about 10 years ago, and it could have been about ten years old at the time! Where a Gorilla has learnt sing language and has a high interaction with humans, a man is interacting with her and I think he falls in love with her and maybe even sleeps with her?? I remember a scene in the book were the gorilla tries to shave her hair off so she looks like everyone else.

Any ideas on title or Author would be great - Thanks

Some of Jennie really fits...some not so much. Jennie is a chimp, she's the one in love with the human, but she does shave herself, or tries to. She goes after the guy really hard, she thinks she's human-mostly.
