Lisarenee | 7659 comments Katherine I love the Bridgerton's series by Quinn. I own a lot of the books from the series and am slowly accumulating them all. It such a nice lighthearted read.

This was my favourite of the Bridgerton books. I just adored Michael Stirling and it was quite angsty compared to the other books in the series. There were some hot love scenes as well!

message 17: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Well can't wait to get to them. LOL Right now Michael is over being sick for the time being and having to go out into society. I do like him.

Sizzling is for my September reading, but I will let you know. I wanted the same thing to happen and I haven't heard very good reviews of 16 but I've read all the rest so why stop now. LOL

I think Water for Elephants is going to be really good. Three nights we finally get to know who killed Leo.

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Yay! You read Staccato. Did you see the Q&A for it? I love all the hidden things that Deborah J. Ledford put into it. I had a good time talking with her.

message 31: by Katherine (new)

Katherine I wish I would have read it before she did her Q&A but it was a great read. I'm happy to have read it, and I love the cover. I didn't look through the thread, I probably should do that and see what I missed in the book. Thanks for the suggestion.

message 37: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments You are the third person I've noticed reading the Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder. Is it any good?

message 38: by Katherine (new)

Katherine A friend of mine recommended it and it was a fun light read. What is really fun is all the recipes in it. I have already tried one of them.

Do not make the chocolate candy cane cookies. The cookies come out an odd consistency and are oddly shiny.

message 40: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments We had a recipe when I was a kid for candy cane cookies (no chocolate) and they did not live up to expectations. Did the recipe involve using actual candy canes in the recipe?

Shay | 923 comments Lisarenee wrote: "We had a recipe when I was a kid for candy cane cookies (no chocolate) and they did not live up to expectations. Did the recipe involve using actual candy canes in the recipe?"

Yes. It was in one of Fluke's Christmas books. The cookie itself was really waxy and had an odd consistency. It was so bad, the kids wouldn't eat them. Even when all the other cookies ran out they refused to touch them. That's pretty bad.

message 42: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Thanks for letting me know. I will stay away from any kind of recipe that used candy canes. LOL If you want an easy and yummy treat get the small regular pretzels put on a candy kiss (there are all kinds of flavors even candy cane ones) and put in the oven at 350 for about a minute then put an M & M on top while still warm, cool in the frig. They are cute and really fun treats.

message 43: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Do you put wax paper under the pretzels?

message 44: by Katherine (last edited Dec 04, 2010 09:01AM) (new)

Katherine No, they come up pretty easy. Just don't leave them in the oven too long. I use a non-stick cookie sheet.

message 45: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments I will need to buy pretzels (got the kisses) and M&Ms. Thanks. I'll need to try it.

message 46: by Katherine (new)

Katherine I hope you think them. They are just bite size cheer. I like to use the red and green M & M's for Christmas time.

You know, the odd thing is that I don't like easy recipes for baking. The more complex the better. I bake to relax, so the more steps, the more relaxation. I even make bagels from scratch. If a recipe is short, but good, it's okay, but I don't go looking for short recipes.

message 48: by Lisarenee (last edited Dec 04, 2010 12:41PM) (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Shay, how good are you at baking? I have, when I can get the darn recipe to work, the most awesome chocolate meringue cookies you've ever tried. Problem is that if you get the recipe wrong you end up with chocolate hockey pucks, but when you get them right, it's heaven on earth - sheer bliss. The one year I got it to work I added cream of tartar to the recipe and reduced the amount of powdered sugar. The recipe calls for a pound (I think) of powdered sugar.

I must be pretty good. People beg to get on my Christmas cookie list. Do you have copper bowls? A good tip for egg whites is to use copper bowls- it doesn't get higher than a regular mixer but the copper "sets" the whites and stabilizes it and it doesn't reduce in size as much. It prevents you from "overwhipping" the egg whites because you know they'll come out. I'll look it up, but there's also a specific time to add the cream of tartar- so many minutes in, for the greatest amount of stabilization of the egg whites. A lot of it also has to do with where you live, if it's too humid, it just won't come out. Same with fudge.

message 50: by Shay (new)

Shay | 923 comments Oh, and you should have a bowl and beaters just for egg whites. If there is even the slightest amount of fat, like from butter or egg yolks, it won't turn out.
