I agree with Jasmin and it also enables me to sample new authors.

I am with you on this 100%
i am the same way :D

Kenjii, I have thought about organizing a shelf for challenge books, my shelves are getting hard to manage again.
Adrienne, I panic too on challenges, I like longer duration ones.

Do you make a different shelf for each challenge, or just 1 shelf where all challenge books go? I haven't started one yet because I don't know what would be the most helpful.

For example:
slightly more challenging-july
all things summer challenge
urban fantasy summer challenge
Does that make sense?

Yes, that does and thanks.

I like the challenge of finding a book for each task;
I like seeing what other people are reading, which gives me ideas for books for a task, and gets me encouraged to try an author new to me;
I'm goal-oriented but not single-minded, so I enjoy multiple challenges;
Left to myself, I tend to stick to a couple of favorite genres, so the challenges prod me into expanding my reading choices;
I enjoy the thrill of completing a challenge, and it's even more of a thrill when it's a not-so-easy challenge;
I love the conversations with other readers about books, authors, themes, characters in books, etc.

I like that they make me look at normally the ridculously large TBR pile I have so that I can find books that I have been meaning to read and have forgotten about, and also a chance to see what other people are reading. I do plan out the books I am going to read for the challenge but they always seems to change depending on what I can actually get my hands on!

I have a spreadsheet on my computer so i can keep track, otherwise I would forget where I am! I know it is a little obsessive but I can't it, I am a junkie! lol

I'm currently doing three challenges during 2010, and so far, I've got eight more books to go. Monthly challenges that pop up are too good to pass up, especially when they're fulfilled out of my stacks (um, 170ish?).

I love to create and organize lists and I love the feeling of completing a goal. With each book I read, I get a feeling of satisfaction. I guess I'm competitive by nature...which sometimes means I stay up for insane hours and read until I finish the book.

I think I stumbled upon this group by being interested in a contest. So I have never participated in a reading challenge that I am aware of, would someone like to explain what one is and what variety of challenges are up for someone like me to tryout.
I know that from my Loraleighchattersyahoogroup I have learned to write down what I have read, date and how I felt about it. I know that because of bad memory for me that that means alot of note keeping.
I like to have small challenges or goals to reach for because I am so limited in what I can do physically, emotionally and financially. But reading I can do and I try to do lots of it, It's just that this year started out bad and continues to get worse so I hope and pray that next year goes much better.

The former helped me start keeping track..."
Hopefully you'll like one of the challenges we have.We had a TBR challenge that you can still do if you like.

I am unsure why I am so attracted. One thing I have learned however is that I dont enjoy reading books that are not already attractive to me. Challenges that proscribe books I end up getting frustrated with or starting books I really am not that interested in and then I just dont read.
Anyway I have now been doing them fairly obsessively for a year plus and I still enjoy it as much as ever. I just am not in the rush I was at first and If I cant get into a book, I just set it aside and move on.
