SOLVED Help: I read this book in grade school.... [s]

I read this book in grade school and I remember it had a big impact on me.

I really remember the cover better than anything....
It was a sidewalk that was freshly cemented and there was someones name written in it.

I believe it was about a boy whose friend died or he died while riding a bike w/o a helmet....jeesh I thought I'd remember more but I just cant. Hopefully someone will remember the cover of it.

I'd like to read it again if I can find it.

I hope someone can help me with this...I know I'm vague, but that's all I got.

How about this one....

Its a series of childrens books about a detective, I dont remember his name I think it was short and started with an S ... I believe he had a dog with him. There are quite a few in the series, and I remember loving to read them throught grade school.

This one might be hard cuz again I cant remember diddly about it :(

Could it be the Nate the Great series, by Marjorie Sharmat? He has a dog named Sludge.
