Sharon Ledwith Thanks, Joanna! I know it's a mouthful but it set ups the series!

message 252: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Gawn (lazuliportals) LOL My title is The Cordello Quest, and is Book One of The Lazuli Portals. The series title can be a mouthful! ;-)
Our blog is here if you're interested.
I had a look at yours; I've never tried Google Friend Connect - does it simply use a gmail account? I tend to get blogs I follow sent to me by email, or read via NetworkedBlogs on Facebook.

Edward McKeown (edward_mckeown) | 3 comments Well I fit in being a lifetime SF fan, finally succumbing to the desire to actually write. I have about 80 anthology publications, two as the editor of the Sha'Daa series. I have written twice for Janet Morris of "Heroes in Hell" fame and I have just published my first novel, Kindle edition out now with print to follow.http://www.amazon.com/Was-Once-A-Hero...

First and Fore most intro's:
Hey y'all! Howz it goin? Anyways I saw this group on the feature list and I just had to join, so here I am. This looks like a promissing group, so I have high hopes for this group, jsyk.

About Me:
I have many nicknames, I have gotten so adjusted to my nicknames that I sometimes don't recognize my own birth name. I love tigers to my death. I own some property out in Angola and Eden. I am more of a country person though I do not like most country song's. I have Acid Reflux Disease and I am hearing impaired. My fav. colors are purple, gold, silver, and black. My fav people (as of at this moment) are Josh Groban, my mom, my dad, and then the rest of my family, Nandanie Phalgoo, Adele, Rihanna, Kanye West, B.O.B, Colleen Houck, Karsten Knight, and the rest are on my home-page. I am pretty optimistic and out-going. I love to write and read. Definetly read. I own a KOBO, that's my e-reader. I also own a lap-top. It may sound weird but I love to collect BARBIE, only collectable ones though. Also they have to be beautiful. I am soon to be an accomplished author. I am about to start highschool, god am I going to die. Have a wonderful year y'all! Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

Dabia (dallesa) Hey, I'm new in the group. my name is Dabia, I'm 15 years old girl. I like reading almost everything, but I hate poetry. I write sometimes, haven't posted anything, but maybe soon. My favorite books are the Harry Potter series, I've never read, never will a books as awesome as Harry Potter's! I like football (soccer), tv shows, movies, books (of course), video games, and a lot of other stuff..

Daphne (dmfcr) | 1 comments Hello, I don't want to say anything personal XD. I'm young, I love reading (obviously) action/fantasy/sci fi books. I'm not into romance if it's the main book, but I love it if it's a side-plot. :D I love writing too, and I'm currently writing two stories with two different friends of mine. :)

message 262: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (mdott) | 23 comments Hi Everyone.
I'm Marlene, from California. I'm a lifelong SF reader - fantasy, too, but I cut my teeth on L'Enlge, then Asimov, Heinlein... wait, I'm showing my age:).

I'm an author, adding my own two bits to lexicon. Go ahead and check me out, but I won't push things here.

We're a Kindle household out of necessity - there are no more walls for bookshelves. I love my Kindle, though. So many books to carry with me everywhere I go! Looking forward to seeing what you're all reading!

message 263: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael | 99 comments Welcome ... and my walls look like your walls ... same reason I converted to a Kindle 3 months ago.

I also still have some of the early Heinlein and Simak books on my favorites-to-reread shelves ... classics never die.

message 264: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (mdott) | 23 comments Thanks Sharon. I suspect bookaholics were the first people to by ereaders!

message 265: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael | 99 comments Marlene wrote: "Thanks Sharon. I suspect bookaholics were the first people to by ereaders!"

I'm sure they were. All of my new release purchases are eBook purchases ... this, of course, will allow me to free up some bookshelf space for more of the older books that I would still like to replace that are not available in eBook form.

At least that works well for me as a rationalization.

Terra Synn (terrasynn) | 34 comments Welcome to readers anonymous

message 267: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Gawn (lazuliportals) Hi to newer members. Yep, our walls have no more space for shelves, either. If my husband saw how many books I've bought for the Kindle..........oops.

message 268: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (mdott) | 23 comments Joanna, Oh, I know what you mean. It's far too easy to buy a Kindle book. I have to be really careful not to go over the budget.

message 269: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Gawn (lazuliportals) Marlene, I'm sometimes restricting myself to samples, so that I have it there, a reminder, but can wait to buy it ... sometimes! ;-)

message 270: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (mdott) | 23 comments I do that too. Of course, my Goodreads To Read list is the most important place to keep track, but sometimes the sample convinces me to buy it right away.

message 271: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael | 99 comments The free books I download. Anything else, I download a sample. But sometimes the sample convinces me to buy it right then. And of course there are the ones on my 'must buy' list as well.

message 272: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Gawn (lazuliportals) Marlene and Sharon : yup!

message 273: by R.C. (new)

R.C. Rutter | 8 comments Greetings everyone,
I was browsing GR and came across this group. Thanks for allowing me to join.

I have been a SCI-FI and Fantasy reader since my teenage years and recently followed my dream of publishing my own books.

I have very little time for recreational reading nowadays as I am working on the third book in my series.

This Saturday and Sunday I will be giving away my first ebook "Cave of Forlorn." If you have the opportunity, please download, read, and let me know your thoughts. I always like getting feedback.

Kind regards,
R.C. Cave of Forlorn

I'm an author with several published books (e-published, print on demand, and self published) and I love reading sci-fi and fantasy. I just joined Goodreads and this is a great site! I look forward to sharing our insights as readers and writers here!

K.l. Dillon (kldillon) | 4 comments Hey there fellow Goodreads peeps. My name is Kevin Lyle Dillon. I've been on Goodreads for awhile, but most recently, I've been coming back to it more often. It's pretty cool. Anyhow, I joined this group immediately because (obviously), I'm in Sci-fi. Favorite author is Philip K. Dick! I read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep about twice a year!
More about me: I'm 23 years old, hail from city of Brotherly love. An aspiring writer, currently working and editing a short story collection. I like red bull and i like sleep. Also, see: Salt and Vinegar chips and buffalo wings. Um....my favorite non-sci-fi author is a toss up between F. Scott Fitzgerald/Hemingway/B.Easton Ellis/Chuck Palahniuk.

Anyhow, sorry for the lame-o introduction! If you guys have any tips for a Goodreads newbie, I'd be glad to hear it!

message 277: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (mdott) | 23 comments Welcome from one newbie to another! It's nice to know the younger generation is still reading the Masters. Good luck with your writing!

Celeste | 2 comments Hi. My name is Celeste. I am retired, and still live in Michigan most of the time. I'll read almost any book, but my favorite genre is fantasy/sci fi. I read everthing from Asimov and Heinlein to Terry Pratchett. I've been reading sci fi/fantasy for many years, but I have never had friends or family who cared for the genre. It's difficult to discuss a good book with someone who has no interest in it. My daughter recently suggested GoodReads to me, and I found this group. I am looking forward to book discussions and suggestions.

message 283: by Sharon (new)

Valerie Kite (vkite1yahooccoom) | 21 comments Lots of enjoyment in those writers. Plus I have been watching Steve Bachman " How did we do it?" Old movies.
I used to have a friend in Michigam. I know it is a large state, but Edith Doty, long dead, had a son, John, and a daughter, Bertha.

I don't have a favourite genre, but I've recently been reading more and more fantasy/sci fi so this seemed like a good place to get some recommendations, so please feel free to suggest anything you thinks worth reading!

Welcome to the group and glad to see someone from England. I lived in Spain (military posting) many years ago and my best friend there was English, married to an American serviceman.

What are some of the books/authors you've read so far and like?

message 291: by Marika (new)

Marika Taylor (marikalt) | 2 comments Thanks! I'm a big fan of Brandon Sanderson, and I also like Patrick Rothfuss, Gwyneth Jones and George RR Martin. I've read most of Tolkien's books too, and I've got a weakness for dystopian books like The Hunger Games and Divergent so anything along those lines really. At the moment I'm reading The Lies of Locke Lamora.

Jim Chaseley (jimchaseley) | 8 comments Hi, I've just joined goodreads, and I've joined as a newly (self) published author.

I'm here to find cool new sci-fi and fantasy to read, and to get exposure for my own novel (currently only available for Kindle, but I'm working on that).

I found Stephen Sweeney's Honour Of The Knights novel here, and he's a self-published Kindle author, like me. So I'm keen to support other enterprising go-getters like him and, now, like me too ;)

I won't be so crass as to try to recommend my book for the group to read, but I'd certainly be chuffed if you'd take a browse at it.

Regards,
Jim

PS - Being new here, I do apologise if I've broken etiquette at all. I'll remove the link below if it's bad form!

Hi Joanna, just took a look at your blog and - hopefully - followed. I've just downloaded The Cordello Quest and looking forward to reading. I shall post a review, though I will admit, I have a backlog of titles that I'm working through. That's the only problem with being a writer and wanting to read all these exciting new books - you need an extra twelve hours a day!

Cheers,

Laura

Jim Chaseley (jimchaseley) | 8 comments Hi guys, I introduced myself a few days ago, but, since my book is on the front page of http://iselfpub.com I thought it would be a good time to post again.

Even if you just end up having a gander at the website above for its own merits. Looks like a decent place to keep an eye on from time to time for eBooks.

Anyway, in case anyone's interested in some light-hearted, humorous, sometimes slightly daft sci-fi:

message 296: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Gawn (lazuliportals) Laura, thanks so much! Yep, the blog shows you as following :) Hope you enjoy the book when you get to it, and I *totally* agree, we need those extra hours every day. My TBR pile just keeps increasing exponentially!

Hi Jim, I've bookmarked the link to look at later; time to get on with my other business now, and so I must get off Goodreads....!

David P Forsyth (daidpforsyth) | 6 comments Hi, I'm David and I introduced myself briefly last month, but now that my GR author page is set up, complete with blog and fans on two continents (nobody is as surprised as me), I wanted to introduce myself properly. I won't pitch my book(s), except to say that I have written a sci-fi adventure with a twist on an old and popular horror genre (think Battlestar Galactica meets the Walking Dead). My author page will tell you quite a bit more about me. I hope this interests you enough to visit me at David P. Forsyth

I'm Steve Merrick, I have one sci fi book out called the Navigator and I am working on The Awash In Starlight series, the links are below or on my profile etc, really happy to join this group.

So are there any Lem, Vonnegut, Heinlein, Wyndham, Harrison, haldeman or John Varley fans out there as we might want to set up groups for those?

;-)

Mary Moore (mary_c_moore) Hello all,

I'm primarily a fantasy geek, love me some Robin McKinnley and Patricia A. McKillip. I grew up on Anne McCaffrey and Tamara Pierce, strong female main characters are gold to me.

I'm a Nook owner-fighting the little guy fight against Amazon. Although I've discovered via indie-publishing that they are really good at everything so the fight is pretty half-hearted. :)

Also an author, I write what I love. Stuff's on my profile if you are curious.

I'm looking for some inspiring well-written fantasy and earthy science-fiction (is that a type?)

Happy reading!

Hi Mary, know what you mean about Amazon, but at least they don't turn their noses up at Indie writers and gives us a better chance of levelling the playing field. One wonders how long that will last though, eh?
